Приветствую всех коллег! Сегодня хочу представить вам одну очередную итальянскую модель, но очень, прям очень молодого бренда. Года полтора назад я случайно встретил имя этой компании и данную модель на просторах интернета и так прям загорелся попробовать, что даже нашел способ связаться с Сальваторе Матроне (сооснователем и исполнительным директором). И поначалу вроде как “все было хорошо”, побеседовали, но потом, как говорится “что-то пошло не так”:). На протяжении полутора лет у меня как-то не складывалось и тут вот, “нежданно-негаданно”, помог случай и Ангел(Де Ла Торре – знаково получилось, за что ему огромное спасибо) из Италии:). Так что теперь у меня и у вас есть возможность ознакомится и с этим представителем с очень длинным названием:

Greetings to all FP fans! Today I want to show you another Italian model, but a very, very young brand. About a year and a half ago, I accidentally find this brandname and this model on the Internet and so fired up to try that I even found a way to contact Salvatore Matrone (co-founder and CEO). And at first it seemed like “everything was fine,” they talked, but then, as they say, “something went wrong” :). Further events did not allow me to meet with this brand, but unexpectedly the case in the person of Angel from Italy (De La Torre – thanks to him) helped :). Now I and you have the opportunity to get acquainted with this fountain pen.

Leonardo Officina Italiana – The Momento Zero Horn ST (handmade in Italy)

Форма данного инструмента цилиндрическая с небольшим утолщением по центру и очень сильно напоминает инструменты известного итальянского бренда OMASб только корпус не граненый, а гладкий. Окончания корпуса и колпачка имеет конусовидные навершия. Материал ручки – смола (resin) в расцветке Horn (“рожок”). Не знаю почему “рожок”, т.е. я знаю что такое “рожок” и у меня в детстве(у родителей) был подобный сувенир из высокогорья, но вот ни по цвету и по структуре мне он его не напоминает, а напоминает скорее мрамор или оникс, ну да ладно:). Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерная, стандарта интернешенел(international), но родной конвертер имеет резьбу что позволяет его надежно закреплять в секции. Колпачок на резьбе, резьба 3х заходная, полное закрытие\открытие ровно за 1 оборот.

The shape of this tool is cylindrical with a slight thickening in the center and very much resembles the tools of the famous Italian brand OMAS, only the body is smooth and not faceted. The tops of the body and cap have a cone-shaped form. Fountain pen material is resin in a Horn color. I don’t know why the “horn”, i.e. I know how “horn” is looks because I played with like it in my childhood (my parents had a similar souvenir from the highlands), but in terms of color and structure it doesn’t remind me of it, but rather reminds me of marble or onyx, oh well :). The filling system is cartridge-converter, international standard, but the native converter has a thread that allows it to be securely fixed in the section. Cap on the thread, 3-way thread, full closure\opening exactly 1 turn.

Имя бренда Leonardo Officina Italiana нанесено на корпус методом фрезеровки. Колпачок снабжен клипом, как сейчас говорят в “итальянком стиле” с колесиком, однако напомню что изобрела такой клип компания Boston Fountain Pen Company(патент номер US-1098719 от 1914года), которая была куплена компанией Whal-Eversharp в 1917 году. Из итальянских компаний первыми внедрили этот клип компания Ancora и Omas в начале 30х годов прошлого века. Представленная в теме модель так называемая номерная, хоть и базовая, поэтому номер выгравирован на корпусе, в конце имени брэнда.

The brand name Leonardo Officina Italiana is engraved onto the barrel. The cap has a clip, as they say in the “Italian style” with a roller, but I want remind to you that is type of clip was developed by Boston Fountain Pen Company (patent number US-1098719 from 1914), which was later purchased by Whal-Eversharp in 1917. Of the Italian companies, Ancora and Omas were the first to introduce this clip in the early 30s of the last century. The model presented in the topic is a numbered model, “because is strictly hand-turned by solid bar”, is why the number is engraved on the body at the end of the brand name.

Колпачок помимо элегантного клипа с колесиком украшен двумя тонкими хромированными кольцами, которые в сочетании с таким-же кольцами с обоих концов корпуса создают элегантный унисон акцентов. Как я отмечал выше навершия выполнены в виде конусов. В торце корпуса имеется blind cap (малый колпачок) который позволяет получить доступ к ручке поршня конвертера, поэтому для заправки совсем необязательно раскручивать весь корпус. Кстати, на длинной стальной ручке конвертера методом лазерной гравировки так-же нанесено имя компании LEONARDO Officina Italiana с фирменным логотипом – крыльями. Второе кстати: конвертер полностью идентичен конвертеру компании Visconti, включая резьбу, отличия составляют лишь дизайн стальной ручки привода поршня.

In addition to the elegant roller-clip, the cap is decorated with two thin chrome rings, which in combination with the same rings on both ends of the barrel create an elegant unison of accents. As I noted above, the tops are made in the form of cones. At the end of the body have a blind cap that allows you to access to the handle of the piston, so for filling it is not necessary to unscrew the barrel. By the way, the name of the company LEONARDO Officina Italiana with the company logo “wings” is also printed on the long steel handle of the converter. Second, by the way: the converter is completely identical to the Visconti converter, including threads, the only differences are the design of the steel handle of the piston.

Перо: собственно фотографию я сделал ради проформы и относительного размера только одного пера, второе не стал разбирать. Перья для компании Leonardo производит известная немецкая компания Bock, однако не всегда качество промышленных перьев удовлетворяет конечного потребителя, поэтому перья проходят ручное обслуживание и это чувствуется. Оба пера, которые есть у меня и опробованы, пишут максимально гладко, как говорится “масло масляное”, при чем обеими сторонами. Сами перья выполнены из нержавеющей стали, размер перьев – 6, крепятся с пластиковым фидером на трении в стандартном стакане (collar). Для тех кому нужен “другой” размер пера, компания продает отдельно настроенные и смонтированные перья с фидерами. Кстати перо упругое и даже позволяет немного вариативности(не замерял), что в принципе не характерно для базовых стальных перьев Bock, однако, по всей видимости, у Stub’а отсутствует твердосплавная напайка.

The nib: I shoot a photo nib for visual comparison with other nibs on my pen posts. I did not disassemble the other nib for photo because they are identical, the size of the nib is 6. The nibs for Leonardo are produced by the well-known German company Bock, but the quality of industrial nibs is not always satisfied end user, so this nibs undergo manual adjusting in company and this is felt. Both nibs, which I have (and tested), write as smoothly as possible, as say, “buttery butter”, with both sides. The nibs themselves are made of stainless steel and mounted with a plastic feed on friction in a standard collar. Therefore, if you need a tip with other size, the company will sale to you adjusted nib with feed in the collar. By the way, the nib is springy with little flexibility(not measured), which in principle is not typical for Bock base steel nibs, however, apparently, the Stub nib has no any tip.

Общие размеры инструмента: длинна в сложенном состоянии – 142.3мм, при снятом колпачке – 127.4мм, диаметр корпуса – 14.5мм, в месте хвата – 11.2мм. Полный вес ручки(с наполовину заправленным конвертером) – 26.9гр(21.8гр без конвертера) и без колпачка – 18.7гр(13.6гр без конвертера).

Overall dimensions: full folded length – 142.3mm, without cap  – 127.4mm; body diameter – 14.5mm, at the grip – 11.2mm. The total weight (with the half-filled converter) is 26.9g (21.8g without converter) and without cap is 18.7g (13.6g without converter).

Я уже как-то касался этой темы в одном из постов об итальянских ручках, но позволю себе немного повторится чтобы было понятнее. В далеком недалеком 1982 году три увлеченных человека: Nino Marino, Ciro Matrone и Mario Muscente организовали ныне известную компанию Delta, которая, увы, 16 июля 2017 года бессрочно приостановила свое производство. Так вот Salvatore Matrone и Mariafrancesca Matrone которые стоят во главе Leonardo Officina Italiana являются детьми Ciro Matrone, что собственно и объясняет тот самый 45и летний опыт упомянутый вначале, и оба они работали в той-же Delta: Mariafrancesca в администрации, а Salvatore в технологическом отделе. Он был ответственнен за выпуск таких моделей как Capri, The Journal, Ottantesima, Amerigo Vespucci, Enrico Caruso, Momo Design и многих других. После закрытия предприятия тяга к перьевому искусству не позволила забыть все что было сделано и дало толчок к открытию Leonardo Officina Italian в местечке Caserta. Более того, помимо собственного производства, компания активно сотрудничает с ASC (Armando Simoni Club – нынешние владельцы OMAS), от хранения запасов фирменных материалов смол и целлулоида, до изготовления инструментов как субподрядчик, таких как Bolognia Extra или Arco Verde. Возможно, что нынешние лимитированные инструменты Leonardo Officina специальных расцветок изготавливаются из этих же самых запасов:). На данный момент компания выпускает несколько базовых моделей Momento Zero, Furore и Messenger, а также ряд лимитированных моделей на базе Momento Zero: Speranza и Grande. Большинство “больших” моделей обладают встроенным конвертером (captive converter) увеличенной емкости (1.2мл), но некоторые и полноценной поршневой системой, как некоторые Momento Zero Grande 2020. Кстати, несколько месяцев назад Leonardo Officina Italiana презентовали новый тип пера – Elastic, которое обладает вариативностью и могут комплектоваться со старшими моделями.

Minutes of the story:
Leonardo Officina Italiana is a new brand with 45 years of experience handed from generation to generation – this is how almost all descriptions of Leonardo brand fountain pens begin. I already somehow writed on this theme in one of the italian pen posts, but I will allow myself to be repeated. In the distant not far 1982, three enthusiastic people: Nino Marino, Ciro Matrone and Mario Muscente organized the now famous company Delta, which, alas, on July 16, 2017 suspended its production indefinitely. So Salvatore Matrone and Mariafrancesca Matrone, who are at the head of Leonardo Officina Italiana, are the children of Ciro Matrone. And they both(with father) worked in the same Delta: Mariafrancesca in the administration, and Salvatore in the technology department . He was responsible for the release of models such as Capri, The Journal, Ottantesima, Amerigo Vespucci, Enrico Caruso, Momo Design and many others. After the closure of the Delta factory, the craving for pen’s art did not allow to forget everything that was done and gave impetus to the opening of Leonardo Officina Italiana in the Caserta. Moreover, in addition to its own production, the company actively cooperates with ASC (Armando Simoni Club – the current owners of OMAS), from storing stocks of original resins and celluloid to OEM production writing tools such as Bolognia Extra or Arco Verde. It is possible that the current limited edition Leonardo Officina special colors are made from the same stocks :). At the moment, the company produces several basic models of Momento Zero, Furore and Messenger, as well as a number of limited models based on Momento Zero: Speranza and Grande. Most of the oversize models have a built-in converter (captive converter) with increased capacity
to1.2ml, but some have a real piston-filler system, like some Momento Zero Grande 2020. By the way, a few months ago Leonardo Officina Italiana presented a new type of nib – Elastic, which has variability(flexy) and can to be completed with higher(top) models.

Мне не пришлось дополнительно ничего делать с данным инструментом, а лишь удовлетворить свое любопытство путем традиционного тестирования.

I did not have to do anything extra with this tool, I only satisfy my curiosity through my traditional testing:).

Поскольку в моем комплекте 2 пера, и оба “большой” размерности, то основной эскиз я позволил себе выполнить пером B, а сопроводительный текст сделал обоими перьями. Перо “B”: ширина линии прямой стороной составляет 0.7мм, обратная сторона дает линию размером 0.3мм при несколько сухой подаче.  Перо “Stub”:  ширина вертикальной линии прямой стороной составляет 1.0мм, а горизонтальной линии – 0.3мм. Обратная сторона дает линию 1.1мм при вертикальном ведении и 0.2мм при горизонтальном ведении. При этом одиночная горизонтальная линия(скажем при штриховке) может прерываться.

Since there are 2 nibs in my set, and both are of a “large” dimension, I allowed myself to draw the main sketch with B-size nib, but tests text with both nibs. The nib “B”: the line width by the right side have line is 0.7mm, and the reverse side have a line with is 0.3mm, with a slightly dry flow. The “Stub” nib: the width of the vertical line by the right side is 1.0mm, and the horizontal line with 0.3mm width. The reverse side have a line with 1.1 mm width for vertical direction and 0.2 mm width for horizontal direction. In this case, only a couple of horizontal line (say when hatching) can be interrupted.

В итоге: честно сказать по началу я не был в восторге. После того как я открыл пакет и достал ручку мне она показалась немного игрушечной, не целостной, где-то что-то болталось, что-то стучало, по ощущениям что-то похожее на недорогой пластик. Но потом я промыл, просушил, отполировал, собрал, поставил конвертер, заправил и она заиграла:). Форма действительно красивая и очень эргономичная – в руке лежит отлично, работать ей удобно, рука не устает, баланс чуть смещен назад из за ручки конвертера, но это не ощущается. Перья пишут очень гладко, ощущается индивидуальная доводка, так что для любителей масла масляного смело можно рекомендовать, особенно с учетом небольшой цены на базовые модели. К небольшому дребезгу конвертера о стенки корпуса можно привыкнуть или заменить конвертер картриджем благо система это позволяет правда ручка потеряет в весе я думаю, но кого не устраивает такая перспектива придется смотреть в сторону топовых моделей из целлулоида, они должны быть потяжелее или эбонита с поршневой системой заправки. Кстати в “старших” моделях с золотыми перьями используется эбонитовый фидер, а в оверсазах еще и перо 8го размера. Я бы конечно с удовольствием попробовал-бы это новое перо Elastic, но пока буду довольствоваться тем что есть. Единственный  существенный технически отрицательный момент который я пока заметил – то что мой Stub немного подсыхает, но я еще понаблюдаю пару дней. Кстати, во время написания обзора уделил еще внимание такому интересному замеру: после установки в чистую и сухую ручку заправленного конвертера перо начинает писать примерно через 25сек, что очень даже неплохой результат, быстрее помоему работали у меня только фидеры от Pelikan и Montblanc (~15сек).

At the end: to be honest at first I was not thrilled. After I opened the box and pulled out a pen, it seemed a little toy to me, not holistic, somewhere it was hanging out, something was knocking, it felt like something like inexpensive plastic. But then I cleaned, dried, some polished, assembled, put the converter, filling and it began “to play music” :). The shape is really beautiful and very ergonomic – it fits perfectly in the hand, it is very comfortable to work with, the hand does not get tired, the balance is slightly shifted back due to the steel converter handle, but this is not felt. The nibs write very smoothly, an individual fine-tuning is felt, so for lovers of “buttery butter” can be safely recommended, especially given the low price of basic models. It can get used to the small bounce of the converter on the body walls or replace the converter with a cartridge but you can little lose overall weight. But whoever doesn’t like this prospect will have to look towards the top models of celluloid, they should be heavier or ebonite with a real piston-filler system . By the way, in the “higher” models with solid-gold nibs used ebonite feed , and in oversize models used is also an 8th size nib. Of course, I would love to try this new Elastic nib, but for now I will be content with what I have. The only one technically negative point that I have noticed so far is that my Stub nib is dries out a bit, but I will still observe a couple of days. By the way, while make a test for review, I also paid attention to such an interesting measurement: after installing the filled converter in a clean and dry pen, the nibs starts to write after about 25 seconds, which is a very good result, faster only the feed made by Pelikan and Montblanc worked for me (~ 15 sec) .

Update 2:

Еще один небольшой “камень в огород” недостаточно твердого материала – за год использования корпус несколько потерся и получил пару существенных царапин(на фотографиине так заметно но глазами было видно хорошо). Конечно перед обзором я их заполировал, но это нужно иметь в виду. Я думаю модели из целлулоида более прочны, но и цену имеют несколько выше.

Another small negative point that I wanted to pay attention to is that this plastic(resin) is not so hard. For a year of use, the body is slightly rubbed and has a couple of significant scratches(It is poorly visible in the photo but more noticeable with the eyes). Of course, before the review I polished them, but you can think about it. I think celluloid models are more durable, but they have a higher price.

Piazza San Marco (Piasa San Marco), often known in English as St Mark’s Square, is the principal public square of Venice, Italy, where it is generally known just as la Piazza (“the Square”). All other urban spaces in the city (except the Piazzetta and the Piazzale Roma) are called campi (“fields”). The Piazzetta (“little Piazza/Square”) is an extension of the Piazza towards San Marco basin in its south east corner (see plan). The two spaces together form the social, religious and political centre of Venice and are commonly considered together.

Gondolas are an integral part of Venice, and some say you simply cannot visit Venice without taking a gondola ride. A gondola is a narrow wooden boat which was traditionally the main means of transport for Venetians. However, since the invention of the motorboat, gondolas have become a symbol of Venice and a popular tourist attraction. Gondolas are 11m long, weigh 600kg and are hand-made using 8 different types of wood. The Gondolas you will see in Venice are painted black, often with intricate decorations and luxurious furnishings. There are also brightly coloured gondolas which are reserved for festivals or sports competitions. Gondolas are controlled by gondoliers, who wear their ‘uniform’ of a red or black and white striped shirt and black trousers, often with a boater hat and ribbon to match. There are around 450 working gondoliers in Venice.

Update 03.08.2020

В процессе эксплуатации выяснился такой момент: чернила проникают между стаканом(collar) и секцией(grip) и при достаточно прозрачном корпусе(translucent) неприятно просвечивают, особенно если сильно отличаются по тону от цвета корпуса. В моем случае сочетание расцветки “рог” и чернил Diamine Pumpkin привели к красновато-розоватым пятнам. Простой промывкой не удалось очистить, видимо щели очень мелкие, и в результате пришлось прибегнуть к узльтразвуковой ванне(очистка на 95% за 10 минут).

In the process of use, the following moment became clear: the ink penetrates between the nib unit collar and the section (grip) and with a sufficiently transparent body (translucent), unpleasantly shines through, especially if it differs greatly in tone from the color of the body. In my case, the combination of horn and Diamine Pumpkin ink resulted in reddish-pinkish spots. Simple rinsing failed to clean, apparently the spaces are very thiny, and as a result I needed used ultrasonic bath (95% cleaning through 10 minutes).

В качестве еще одного интересного апдейта привожу сравнительные фото двух, наверное самых распространенных Stub’ов: слева Bock Stub (Leonardo Officina Italiana Momento Zero) и справа JoWo Stub (Esterbrook Estie Ebony).

As another interesting addon, I did comparative photos of two, probably the most common Stubs: on the left Bock Stub (Leonardo Officina Italiana Momento Zero) and on the right JoWo Stub (Esterbrook Estie Ebony).
