Afterchristmassly hi to all! Six months ago, I already reviewed a similar model, in a very modern design, but today I want to show you the flagship or top model of this brand based on the historical one as close to the original as possible.

Вітаю всіх! Півроку тому я вже показував схожу модель, у дуже сучасному виконанні, а сьогодні хочу показати флагмана чи топову модель цього бренду, створеного за мотивами історичної, максимально близько до оригіналу.

Conklin Mark Twain Signature Crescent-filler in Black Chased Hard Rubber (made in USA|Italy) ~2007-2010

Форма даної ручки максимально наближена до оригіналу Conklin 2NL – яка є циліндричною з плоским закінченням на корпусі та округленим закінченням на ковпачку. Дана модель виготовлена з чорного ебоніту з нанесеним хвилястим фірмовим малюнком насічками. Система заправки – Crescent-filler, як і в історичного оригіналу з гумовою піпеткою. Ковпачок на різьбленні, різьблення 4х західне, закриття/відкриття рівно за 1 оборот.

The shape of this pen is as close as possible to the original Conklin 2NL – it is cylindrical with a flat end on the body and a rounded end on the cap. This model is made of black ebonite with the signature wavy pattern applied with notches. Filling system – Crescent-filler, like the historical original with a reubber sac. Cap on thread, 4-start thread, closing/opening exactly by 1 turn.

Ковпачок прикрашений масивним кліпом з тисненим ім’ям бренду Conklin, та судячи з інформації компанії, виготовленим із цільного шматка стерлінгового срібла, а також широким срібним кільцем в основі. Ще на корпусі є гравіювання Conklin Pen Co. Crescent filler – яке заповнено жовтою фарбою.

The cap is decorated with a massive clip with embossed Conklin brand name, judging by the information of the company, made from a single piece of sterling silver, as well as a wide silver ring at the base. Also on the body there is an engraving of Conklin Pen Co. Crescent filler – filled with yellow paint.

На широке кільце ковпачка нанесено ім’я бренду ((( Conklin))) і власне автограф письменника Mark Twain – бо він був амбасадором (як модно зараз казати) цього бренду свого часу. Так само на ковпачку присутнє тавро проби – 925 в овалі і тавро ювелірного будинку – ★ 982 Fl – характерне для італійських виробників (з Флоренції. Вісконті? Пенейдер?).

The name of the brand (((Conklin))) and the actual autograph of the writer Mark Twain are applied to the wide ring of the cap – for he was the ambassador (as it is fashionable to say now) of this brand of his time. Also on the cap there is a stamp of the sample of silver – 925 in an oval and the stamp of the jewelry house – ★ 982 Fl – typical for Italian manufacturers (from Florenсe. Visconti? Pineider?).

Перо: золоте, 14 каратне, двокольорове, велике перо, 6 розміру, покрите родієм. Золотого кольору залишився лише логотип компанії в овалі – Conklin. Під логотипом розташувалися – 14K 585, U.S.A. і розмірність пера В. Я не впевнений щодо виробництва даного пера на території США, швидше за все воно виробництва або Bock, або JoWo, але інформації на цю тему я не знайшов. Для цієї моделі пір’я випускалося всього трьох розмірностей: F, M та B. Перо дуже гладке і по сучасному просте, але не цвях, можна сказати м’яке, правда я зустрічав інформацію в мережі, що ця модель комплектувалася навіть пір’ям класу “флекс”.

The nib: solid gold, 14K, two-tone, large nib, size 6, rhodium-plated. Only the logo of the company in the oval – Conklin – remained in gold color. Under the logo are located – 14K 585, U.S.A. and the dimension of the tip B. I’m not sure about the production of this pen in the United States, most likely it was made by either Bock or JoWo, but I did not find information on this theme. For this model, the nibs were produced in only three dimensions: F, M and B. The nib is very smooth and ordinary in modern times, but isn’t nail, I can be said is some soft. I have seen information on the web that this model was complected with “flex” nib, but not is mine.

Загальні розміри: довжина у складеному вигляді – 140 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 128 мм. Діаметр корпусу (без урахування “місяця” та стопорного кільця) – 12.5мм, а в місці хвату – 10.7мм. Загальна вага – 30 г, а без ковпачка – 14.5 г.

Overall dimensions: folded length – 140mm, with the cap removed – 128mm. The diameter of body (excluding the “crescent” and the stopper ring) is 12.5mm, and at the grip – 10.7mm. The total weight is 30g, and without cap is 14.5g.

Слабке місце даної моделі це класичний гумовий сак у поєднанні з сучасним чорнилом. Залишені на тривалий час деякі чорнила в ручці здатні привести сак у повну непридатність – це факт, він стає липким як пластилін і втрачає еластичність.

The weak point of this model is the classic rubber sac combined with modern ink. Some ink left in the pen for a long time can destroy rubber sac completely or make it unusable – this is a fact, it becomes sticky like plasticine and loses its elasticity.

Ширина ординарної лінії прямою стороною становить – 0.75мм. Натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 1.2мм, переважно через збільшення подачі чорнила. Зворотний бік пише досить тонко – 0.3-0.35мм. Спочатку зворотний бік неприємно піддряпував, але зараз пише гладко, основна сторона пише дуже гладко, прям дуже-дуже :).

The width of an ordinary line by the right side is 0.75mm. The pressure allows this line to be increased to 1.2mm, mainly due to the increased ink supply. The reverse side writes quite thinly – 0.3-0.35mm. Initially, the reverse side was unpleasantly scratched, but now it writes smoothly, the main side writes very smoothly, maybe even a very, very smooooothly :).

В решті: безперечно оригінальна модель, на мій погляд, переважно через оригінальне перо, набагато краща, але є багато користувачів кому не цікаві гнучкі пера. В іншому це дуже красивий, стильний та незвичайний інструмент у класичному виконанні з ебоніту та з сучасними прикрасами декору зі срібла. Якщо цією ручкою постійно писати і не забувати в ній надовго чорнило, то вона тільки радуватиме, так що рекомендую. Я зараз постійно користуюся своїм карбоновим варіантом, але цей виглядає навіть стильніше. Єдине, що мені не подобається, це яскравий жовтий напис на корпусі. Я б її хотів бачити у вигляді не помітного гравіювання, як на вінтажному оригіналі.

At the end: the undoubtedly original model from my point of view, mainly of course due to the vintage nib, is much more preferable, but there are many users who are not interested by flexible nibs. As for the rest, it is a very beautiful, stylish and unusual instrument in a classic material made (hard rubber) and with modern silver elements. If you constantly write with this pen and do not forget the ink in it for a long time, then it will only delight, so I recommend it. I use mine Conklin Stealth all the time now, but this one looks even more stylish. The only thing I don’t like in this model is the bright yellow lettering on the body. I would like to see it like on a vintage original.

В якості першого апдейту хочу показати повний ритейл комплект, який на відміну від пакування звичайних сучасних моделей, комплектується білим футляром зі шкірозамінника з білим, шовковим інлайном і буклетом з короткою історією моделі та інструкцією із заправки ручки.

As the first addon, I want to show the complete retail kit, which, unlike the packaging of the regular modern model, is completed with a white PU Leather case with a white silk inline and a booklet with a short history of the model and instructions for filling the pen.

As a second addon, traditionally a test sketch and today these are Kinderdijk’s windmills.

The windmills at Kinderdijk are a group of 19 monumental windmills in the Alblasserwaard polder, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Most of the mills are part of the village of Kinderdijk in the municipality of Molenlanden, and one mill, De Blokker, is part of the municipality of Alblasserdam. Built in 1738 and 1740, to keep water out of the polder, it is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands and one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. The mills are listed as national monuments and the entire area is a protected village view since 1993. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

A polder is a low-lying tract of land that forms an artificial hydrological entity, enclosed by embankments known as dikes.

Невеличке модіфікування пера Conklin Omniflex ground to Drawing nib xEF/M

Ширина лінії прямою стороною після переробки вийшла 0.2-0.25мм і це з урахуванням досить рідких і плинних Iroshizuku Tsukushi. Зворотний бік дає лінію величиною 0.5мм. Подача помірна обома сторонами. Як ви можливо пам’ятаєте з попереднього посту, про флекс на цьому пері я забув, так що навіть не перевіряю ці можливості.

The line width by the right side after the grind has 0.2-0.25 mm, and this is taking into account the fairly liquid and fluid Iroshizuku Tsukushi. The reverse side has 0.5mm line. The flow is moderate on both sides. As you may remember from the previous post, I forgot about flex on this nib, so I don’t even test it.

Ширина лінії модифікованим пером прямою стороною становить – 0.25 мм, проблема з хардстартами відсутня. Розумний тиск на перо дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,9 мм, хоча в ранніх експериментах я отримував лінію і в 1,5 мм. Зворотний бік дає лінію трохи тонше – 0.2мм, а в штрихуванні – 0.1мм, але гладку (в міру свого розміру) та стабільну.

The line width by the modified nib and right side is – 0.25mm, there is no problem with hardstarts. Reasonable pressure on the nib allows you to increase this line to 0.9mm, although in early experiments I got a line of 1.5mm. The reverse side have a line slightly thinner – 0.2mm, and in fast strokes – 0.1mm, but smooth (to the best of its size) and stable.
