Второй раз за день всем привет! В продолжении дневного поста о переточке Pelikan M101N в UEF, еще один перьевой блок, но уже от Conklin и с немного иной задачей, но тоже в тонкое перо.

Hello everyone for the second time this day! In continuation of the day’s post about re-grind the Pelikan M101N nib unit to the UEF, another nib unit, but from Conklin and with a slightly different task, but also into a thin line.

Ground to Italic EF nib from Conklin Omniflex #6 (old style)

Я уже пробовал подобное перо, которое я покупал на замену оригинальному перу съеденному коррозией в ручку Conklin Crescent Stealth DeLuxe, только то перо было стального цвета, а это желтого. Оно мне очень не понравилось и я позднее его переточил в Drawing nib, но в итоге все равно заменил на custom Noodler’s Flexible #6. Это перо полностью аналогичное.

I have already tried a similar nib, which I bought to replace the corrode original nib in the Conklin Crescent Stealth DeLuxe pen, only that nib was in steel color, and this one was in yellow color. I really didn’t like it and I later re-grind it to Drawing nib, but at the end I still replaced it to custom Noodler’s Flexible # 6. This nib is completely similar.

Перо: стальное, 6го размера, покрытое желтым материалом по цвету не напоминающим золото. На поверхность пера, под воздушным отверстием в виде сердца, нанесено FLEX, логотип компании – Conklin в овале, город основания бренда Toledo и страна USA. Пусть вас не вводит в заблуждение надпись Flex – потому что это перо достаточно жесткое, более того в сети много отрицательных отзывов, когда после флексирования половинки перестают сходится и даже иногда отваливаются.

The nib: steel, size 6, plated by yellow material that does not like a gold plated. On the surface of the nib, under the heart-shaped breather hole, FLEX is imprinted, the company logo is Conklin in oval, the brand founding city is Toledo and country of origin USA. Do not be fooled by the Flex imprint – because this nib is quite tough, moreover, there are a lot of negative reviews on the network when, after flexing, the tines not closed and sometimes even fall off.

Этот перьевой блок так-же пришел без ручки поэтому я использовал свою Conklin Crescent Stealth DeLuxe, однако в отличии от ручки владельца в моей модели стакан вклеенный поэтому я просто переставил перо.

This nib unit also came without a pen, so I used my Conklin Crescent Stealth DeLuxe, but unlike the owner’s pen in my model, the collar is glued in section, so I just mounted the nib.

Компания Yafa, являющаяся владельцем брендов Conklin и Monteverde представила эти перья в 2018 году. И как вы могли понять из описаний ранее – эти перья очень далеки от совершенства. Видимо вследствие многих отрицательных отзывов, компания начала поиски лучшего варианта и следующим шагом стало сотрудничество с известным производителем перьев, компанией JoWo. С 2020 года, компания JoWo начала производить свои перья Omniflex для Yafa и брендов Conklin с Monteverde. эти перья имеют подобные вырезы по бокам для большей гибкости, но имеют иной,  узор (характерный для JoWo) на пере с нанесенной вертикально надписью Omniflex. Более подробно и хвалебно об этом можно прочитать на The Goulet Pens, а нам лишь стоит надеятся что у них все получится или хотя бы половина из запланированного.

Minutes of history:
Yafa, the owner of the Conklin and Monteverde brands, introduced these nibs in 2018. And as you could understand from the descriptions earlier – these nibs are very far from perfect. Apparently as a result of many negative reviews, the company began searching for the better descision and the next step was cooperation with a well-known nibs manufacturer, the JoWo company. Since 2020, JoWo has started producing its Omniflex nibs for Yafa and the Conklin and Monteverde brands. These nibs have similar cutouts on the sides of shoulders for more flexibility, but have a different pattern (typical for JoWo) on the nib with vertically imprinted Omniflex. You can read more about this nibs in more detail and praise at The Goulet Pens, but we just have to hope that they will succeed, or at least half of what was planned.

Задача к этому перьевому блоку стояла в создании максимально тонкого Италика, но с еще видимым контрастом горизонтальной и вертикальной линии. После переточки перо было проверено на эскизе и тексте.

The task for this nib was to create the thinnest Italic, but with a still visible contrast of horizontal and vertical lines. After regrinding, the nib was tested on sketch and write.

Оригинальное перо с заводскими настройками: ширина линии прямой стороной – 0.5мм, нажим может увеличить эту линию до 1.2мм. Обратная сторона давала линию – 0.4мм. Подача обильная, так что моя бумага не справилась и явно видны следы просачивания и елочки.

Original nib with factory settings: ordinary line by the right side – 0.5 mm, pressure can increase this line up to 1.2mm. The reverse side have a line – 0.4mm. The flow is overflow, so my paper failed and there are clearly visible traces of bleeding and feathering.

Переточенное перо: ширина ординарной линии прямой стороной при горизонтальном ведении 0.1-0.15мм, а при вертикальном – 0.25-0.3мм, нажим позволяет увеличить линию до 0.8мм. Обратная сторона пишет нестабильно с шириной линии 0.2мм.

Custom ground nib: the width of ordinary line by right side on horizontal direction is 0.2-0.25mm, and on vertical direction is a 0.25-0.3mm, pressure allows to increase the vertical line up to 0.8mm. The reverse side have an unstable line with a width of 0.2mm.

В итоге: перо очень на любителя и часто требует дополнительной настройки у нибмастера, так что я буду надеяться, что новые перья производства JoWo будут более качественные и стабильные, но сам покупать и пробовать ради интереса не хочу:). Из современного модельного ряда бренда Conklin мне очень нравится дизайн “Марк Твен”, возможно потому что он похож на исторические модели, при этом 6й размер пера позволяет заменить оригинальное перо на более комфортное:). Что же касается сделанного мною пера, то линия получилась интересной – тонкой и вариативной без флекса, при этом можно писать очень мелким почерком. У меня получилось комфортно и разборчиво писать в половину, или даже 1/3 5мм клеточки.

At the end: this type on nib for lover or colecor because often requires additional adjustment from the nibmaster, so I will hope that the new nibs produced by JoWo will be better quality and more stable, but I don’t want to buy and try it myself for the sake of interest :). From the modern lineup of the Conklin, I really like the design of “Mark Twain”, perhaps because it is similar to historical models, while the 6th nib size allows you to replace the original nib to any more comfortable one :). As for the nib which I made, the line turned out to be interesting – thin and variable without flex, while can be use is very small handwriting. I managed to fit the text into half of the square (or even 1/3) of a size 5 by 5 mm, and it was comfortable.

В качестве дополнения привожу пример мелкого письма новым пером. Размер клеточки – 5мм.

As addon, here is an example of small writing with a new nib. The size of the cell is 5mm.

В качестве второго дополнения – традиционно тестовый эскиз. Не могу вам точно сказать кто это, мне просто очень понравилась жизнерадостная улыбка, но могу сказать что это кто-то из жизнерадостных ФПНерцев, моих новых друзей на Фэйсбуке:).

As a second addition – a traditionally test sketch. I can’t tell you exactly who is it, I just really liked the cheerful smile, but I can say that this is one of the cheerful FPNers, new friends on Facebook :).
