Hello everyone! I already have a few reviews of so-called vintage 146 models from different periods of time, so I thought I’d add one more :))

Вітаю усіх! У мене вже є декілька оглядів якби то вінтажних моделей 146 з різних проміжків часу тож я вирішив додати ще один:))

Montblanc Meisterstück 146 (made in Germany) from 1980-1985

This tool has the same shape known to us as “cigar-like” shape named Streamlined at the time of its release. The body is made of black plastic, which traditionally glows red on backlight. There is an ink window on the body for monitoring with gray tone. Cap on thread, 4-start thread, full closure in 1 turn. The base of the piston collar made from metal (brass), but internal parts are plastic, including the rod.

Інструмент являє ту ж саму вже відому нам “сигароподібну” форму названу як Streamlined в момент своєї появи. Корпус виготовлений із пластику чорного кольору, що традиційно світиться на просвіт червоним. На корпусі є оглядове віконце для моніторингу чорнила сірого тону. Ковпачок на різьбленні, різьблення 4х-західне, повне закриття за 1 оборот. Основа втулки поршневого механізму виконана з металу (латунь), внутрішні частини пластикові, включаючи шток.

З прикрас, традиційно, навершя вінчає логотип – снігова вершина Мон Блан, а на широкому золотому кільці нанесено -Montblanc-Meisterstuck№146 (без проміжку перед №). Кліп звичайний, масивний, з буртиком по канту, звісно ще немає Pix на зворотному боці. На кільці кліпа нанесено W.Germany.

From the decorations, traditionally, the top is crowned by the brand logo – is famius snow peak of Mont Blanc, and the wide gold ring with inscription -Montblanc-Meisterstuck№146 (without a space before the №). The clip is ordinary, massive, with a slim border along the edge, of course there is no Pix on the back. The clip ring is marked W.Germany.

Шток у ручці поршня фіксується сталевим повним кільцем, а не  кільцем-пружиною з розривом як у деяких моделях. Цікаво що у сталевого винта що тримає невершя є сіліконова прокладка.

The piston rod in knob fixed by a solid steel ring, not a split spring ring as in some models. It is interesting that the steel screw holding the top has a silicone gasket.

Цього разу я не розбирав перовий вузол, але впевнений там таке саме перо як у більш ранніх моделях та на “повний зріст” можна подивитись у попередніх постах: Montblanc 146 Meisterstuck from 1977

Перо: велике золоте, монотонне перо, жорстке, але пружне. На перо нанесені контур, висота вершини Мон Блан 4810, логотип компанії з ажурною М, 14K, Montblanc, 585 та у хвостовій частині 146. Перо з двох-сплітовим ебонітовим фідером тримається на терті у пластиковій секції, яка вкручуєтеся у барель.

This time I didn’t disassemble the nib unit, but I’m sure it’s the same nib as in the earlier models which you can see in the “full height” in the previous review: Montblanc 146 Meisterstuck from 1977

The nib: enough large, solid gold, monotone nib, hard but little springy. The nib features outline, 4810 is height of top Mont Blanc mountain, company logo with openwork M, 14K, Montblanc, 585 and in the tail is 146. Nib with two-split ebonite feed mount on friction in plastic section that screws into the barrel.

Overall tool dimensions: folded length is – 142 mm, without cap – 124 mm. The diameter of the body is – 13 mm, at the grip – 11.2 mm. The weight of folded tool is – 24g, without cap – 14.5g.

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина складеного інструменту – 142мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 124мм. Діаметр корпусу – 13мм, у місці хвату – 11.2мм. Вага складеного інструменту – 24гр, зі знятим ковпачком – 14.5гр.

Хвилинки історії:
Я не буду переписувати пост з історії бренду Meisterstuck, але якщо вам цікаво, то ви можете переглянути його в темі Montblanc 146 Meisterstuck from 1977. Нагадаю лише про те що модель 146 вперше була представлена у 1950 році, але у 1960 році виробництво було припинено. Однак через 13 років пошуку компанія знову повернулась до виробництва цієї моделі. Тож я пропоную грубі етапи розвитку цієї моделі з 1973 року.

• 1973-1978 – двотонове перо 14C, корпус з блакитним віконцем, круглий ебонітовий фідер, навіть у перші 2 роки відомий телескопічний механізм.
• 1977-1980 – монотонне перо 14K, корпус з сірим віконцем, двосплітовий ебонітовий фідер, втулка поршня складова з пластику та латуні, Germany на кільце кліпу.
• 1980-1985 – як у попередньому тільки з’являєтся надпис W.Germany на кільце кліпу.
• 1985-1990 – монотонне перо 14K, корпус з сірим віконцем, двосплітовий ебонітовий фідер, втулка поршня повністю латунна, W. Germany на кільце кліпу.
• 1987-1995 – двотонове перо 14K, смугасте віконце, ранній пластиковий T-фідер, Після об’єднання W.Germany змінюється на Germany, та з’являється перший тип нумерації HB (2 літери + 6 цифр)
• з 1992 з’являється сучасна нумерація (2 літери + 7 цифр)
• з 1994 з’являється сучасний пластиковий фідер та збільшується розмір корпусу зі 142 до 146мм(LeGrand) та зникає надпис №146 з кільця ковпачка.
• з 1997 з’являється надпис Pix на зворотному боці кліпа
• з 2000 року на кільці ковпачка додається Pix до Montblanc Meisterstück

Moments of history:
I will not rewrite the post with history of the Meisterstuck brand, but if you are interested, you can view it in the topic Montblanc 146 Meisterstuck from 1977. I will only remind that the 146 model was first introduced in 1950, but in 1960 the production was stopped. However, after 13 years of searching new design, the company returned to the production this model. So I offer the view on rough stages of development of this model from 1973.

• 1973-1978 – two-tone nib 14C, body with blue window, round ebonite feed, even in the first 2 years the famous telescopic piston mechanism.
• 1977-1980 – 14K monotone nib, body with gray window, double-split ebonite feed, plastic and brass composite piston sleeve, Germany on clip ring.
• 1980-1985 – as in the previous one, only the inscription W.Germany appears on the clip ring.
• 1985-1990 – 14K monotone nib, body with gray window, double split ebonite feed, full brass piston bushing, W. Germany on clip ring.
• 1987-1995 – 14K two-tone nib, striped window, early plastic T-feed, after Germany unification, W.Germany changes to Germany, and the first pens numbering type appears (2 letters + 6 digits)
• since 1992, modern numbering has appeared (2 letters + 7 numbers)
• since 1994, a modern plastic feed appears and the body size increases from 142 to 146 mm (LeGrand) and the inscription #146 disappears from the cap ring.
• since 1997, the inscription Pix appears on the back of the clip
• since 2000 Pix has been added to the Montblanc Meisterstück on the cap ring

Я зробив часткову (поршнева система) профілактику та як зазвичай протестував роботу цієї ручки у повному обсязі.

I did a partial (piston system) service and as usual tested this pen in full.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,4 мм, натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,8 мм. Зворотний бік пише лінією в 0.2мм яка відчувається вагомо гострою завдяки особливій фірмовій формі кінчика. Прямою стороною лінія гладка з традиційно вологою подачею.

 The line width by right side is 0.4mm, and pressure allows to increase this line to 0.8mm. The reverse side is written with a line of 0.2 mm, which feels very crispy thanks to the special branded shape of the tip. By the right side, the line is smooth with traditionally wet flow.

В решті решт: звісно ця культова та бажана для багатьох прихильників перового письма ручка зроблена дуже якісно. Вона виглядає дуже добре навіть через 40 років, майже як нова. Повністю розбирається для профілактики. Так, з таким гарним фідером бажано мати напівгнучке перо, але нажаль це дуже рідкісно та притаманно більш раннім версіям, але це перо пружне. Тож як що ви бажаєте якісну та впізнану модель у сігароподібному дизайні за вагому суму то я цілком можу рекомендувати до пошуку та купівлі.

At the end: of course, this iconic and desirable fountain pen for many fans of fountain pen writing is made of very high quality. It looks very good even after 40 years, almost like new. It is completely disassembled for service. Yes, with this good feed, a semi-flexible nib is desirable, but unfortunately this is very rare and typical for earlier versions, but this nib is little springy. So if you want a high-quality and recognizable fountain pen in a cigar-shaped design for a significant amount, then I can fully recommend you to search and buy this vintage model.

ps: Після огляду на ручку Pelikan Classic M120 коли я достав свій вінтажний Pelikan 140 я відчув що мені дуже до вподоби ця патина на золотому пері, тому я не став розбирати перовий вузол щоби її не пошкодити. Раніше я би одразу привів перо до стану нового та почистив би його, але зараз відчуваю у цьому свій шарм.

ps: After review on the Pelikan Classic M120 pen, when I took out my vintage Pelikan 140, I felt that I really liked the patina on the old gold nib, so I did not disassemble this nib unit to avoid damaging it. Earlier, I would have immediately cleaned the nib to a new shining, but now I feel its charm.

Сучасне перо трохи більше та ширше за вінтажне, але це помітно лише коли обидва інструменти лежать поруч, коли ви просто користуєтесь ручкою то це не помітно.

The modern nib is slightly larger and wider than the vintage, but this is only noticeable when the two pens are next to each other, when you are just using the pen, it is not noticeable.

Всі письменники та прихильники перового письма стикались з цим образом як мінімум двічи: а) коли дивились всім відомого хлопця під час підбору ручки для себе (не буду казати кого, але я цього літа малював його портрет); б) та коли вибирали собі шрифта для нестандартних документів чи вітань:)) –  «Шустра бура лисиця стрибає через ледащого пса» (“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”).

Тож вважайте це дружнім шаржем для підняття настрою для того хто постійно шукає балансу))

All writers and fans of fountain pen writing encountered this image at least twice: a) when looking at a well-known guy while choosing a pen for himself (won’t say who, but I drew his portrait this summer); b) and when choosing a font for non-standard documents:)) – “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”.

So consider this a friendly cartoon to lift the mood for someone who is constantly looking for balance))

I continue to pay tribute to our heroines – Yaryna Chornohuz. 

Ярина Чорногуз – українська поетка, волонтерка, військовослужбовиця, морський піхотинець, військовий медик, розвідниця Збройних сил України, учасниця російсько-української війни, а також мама 8-річної доньки. Їй вдалося поєднати фронт з материнством. Крім того, у свої 27 років Ярина – в сотні найвпливовіших жінок України. У 2019 вона стала парамедиком, а вже через рік підписала контракт із ЗСУ. Вторгнення РФ зустріла на передовій. З морпіхами Ярина пройшла пекло під Попасною, Маріуполем та Бахмутом.

BBC: У вас підростає донька. Ви колись навіть написали, що пішли на війну заради неї.

Ярина Чорногуз: Насправді – заради її майбутнього, щоб Орися могла жити в Україні вільній від окупації. Але, звичайно, розлука з донькою під час контракту та поки я на війні – це не є чимось добрим для неї.
Зараз їй 8 років. Мені пощастило, що донька мене розуміє і що зараз у безпечному місці. Спочатку їй було важко, потім вона звикла. Вона за кордоном і чекає, поки в мене закінчиться контракт, щоб повернутися. Вона розуміє, чому це важливо – комусь воювати за Україну. Дитина розуміє, чому я обрала такий шлях. Звичайно, їй хочеться більше часу побути зі мною і мені хочеться з нею більше часу проводити. Що поробиш… Не ми обрали війну. Путін і росіяни обрали війну, а ми маємо захищатися.

Yaryna Chornohuz is a Ukrainian poet, a volunteer, a soldier, a marine, a military medic, a scout of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a participant in the russian-Ukrainian war, and the mother of an 8-year-old daughter. She managed to combine the front with motherhood. In addition, at the age of 27, Yaryna is one of the hundred most influential women in Ukraine. In 2019, she became a paramedic, and a year later she signed a contract with the Armed Forces. The invasion of the russian federation was met on the front line. With the marines, Yaryna went through hell near Popasna, Mariupol and Bakhmut.

BBC: You have a growing daughter. You once even wrote that you went to war for her sake.

Yaryna Chornohuz: Actually – for her future, so that Orysya can live in Ukraine free from occupation. But of course, being separated from my daughter during the contract and while I am at war is not something good for her.
Now she is 8 years old. I am lucky that my daughter understands me and that she is now in a safe place. At first it was difficult for her, then she got used to it. She is abroad and is waiting until my contract is over to come back. She understands why it is important for someone to fight for Ukraine. The child understands why I chose this path. Of course, she wants to spend more time with me and I want to spend more time with her. What will you do… We did not choose the war. putin and the russians chose war, and we have to defend ourselves.

Юлія Сідорова за позивним «Куба», парамедикиня ЗСУ; засновниця медичної служби Veteranka (Жіночий ветеранський рух). Куба досвідчена військова – вона на фронті з 2014 року, у 2019 році повернулась до цівільного життя але 24 лютого змусило повернутись знову на фронт.

Yulia Sidorova, nicknamed “Cuba”, paramedic of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; founder of the Veteranka (Women’s Veteran Movement) medical service. Cuba is an experienced military person – she has been at the front since 2014, in 2019 she returned to civilian life, but on February 24 she was forced to return to the front again.

«Уже під час цієї війни на нас полював російський танк, а ми тікали від нього. Він не міг у нас влучити. Вибухало то перед машиною, то позаду нас. Для мене це був навіть не обстріл, бо обстріл — це коли сюди прилітає і ти випадково можеш перебувати цієї миті на цьому місці, а там він цілеспрямовано полював на нас із метою знищити»,

Hi! Before, I did not understand those who like vintage nibs with patina and I cleaned these nibs every time, but now I “fall in love” to it myself. So I decided to update this post with almost the same pen, from the same period, but with small differences.

Вітаннячко! Раніше я не розумів тих кому подобаються вінтажні пера з патиною і кожного разу очищав свої пера, а зараз сам “закохався” у це. Тож вирішив доповнити пост майже такою самою ручкою, саме цього періоду, але з невеликими відмінностями.

Montblanc Meisterstück 146 (made in Germany) from 1980-1985

Головна відмінність цієї ручки від той що в огляді вище це 18каратне перо, а все інше таке саме.

The main difference between this pen and the one in this post above is the 18-carat nib, but everything else is almost the same.

Ще дві невеликі відмінності знаходяться на ковпачку. Перше це дихаючий отвір який переважно відсутній на більшості моделей Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 та 149, але випадково з’являється на деяких екземплярах. Суто технічно цей отвір вже не виконує жодних функцій тому його випадкова присутність незрозуміла. Друга відмінність знаходиться в імпринту на кепці та являє собою пропуски з обох боків “№” – Montblanc Meisterstuck № 146.

Two more small differences are on the cap. The first is the breathing hole, which is mostly absent on most Montblanc Meisterstuck 146 and 149 models, but appears accidentally on some specimens. Technically, this hole no longer performs any functions, so its accidental presence is incomprehensible. The second difference is on the imprint on the caps wide ring and is the spaces on both sides “№” – Montblanc Meisterstuck № 146.

Перо: абсолютно ідентичне до 14К, навіть за пружністю таке саме. На перо нанесені контур, висота вершини Мон Блан 4810, логотип компанії з ажурною М, 18C, Montblanc, 750.

The nib: absolutely identical to 14K, even the springily is the same. The nib features outline, 4810 is height of top Mont Blanc mountain, company logo with openwork M, 18C, Montblanc, 750.

Як це часто трапляється ручку залишили з чорнилом на довгий час, тому я промив її та зробив профілактику поршневого механізму для м’якого ковзання. Налаштував щоб писала не дуже волого, та зробив робочою зворотний бік пера. Протестував чорнилом Sailor Nano Pirment Kiwa-Guro.

As often happens, the pen was left with ink for a long time, so I cleaned it and lubricated the piston mechanism for a smooth glide. Also adjusted nib for not wet writing, and made working the back side of nib. Tested by Sailor Nano Pirment Kiwa-Guro ink.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,3 мм, натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,7 мм. Зворотний бік пише лінією в 0.15мм .

 The line width by right side is 0.3mm, and pressure allows to increase this line to 0.7mm. The reverse side is written with a line of 0.15 mm.

В підсумку: чудова, надійна ручка з привабливим пером та тонкою лінією – це все що треба для гарної праці)).

At the end: excellent, quality pen with awesome nib and thin line – that’s all what is need for good work)).
