Hello everybody! Today, a review of both an ordinary and an unusual pen. Ordinary, because it’s an entry-level pen with a regular-sized body and steel nib. And unusual, because this pen has a non-standard Zoom nib and the color is not quite ordinary.

Всім привіт! Сьогодні огляд водночас на звичайну та незвичайну ручку. Звичайний, тому що це ручка початкового рівня зі сталевим пером, звичайного розміру. А незвичайний, тому що ручка має нестандартне перо Zoom та і колір не зовсім звичайний.

Sailor Profit Casual Maroon w|Zoom nib (made in Japan) 11-0570-730

Власно, за формою, ручка нічим не відрізняється від своєї міжнародної версії Sailor 1911 Standard, та має сигароподібну форму з гостро закругленими кінцями. А ось колір матеріалу корпусу має назву Maroon, для тих хто не в темі це такий собі напів-темно-червоний, трохи тепліше за Burgundy, але ще не такій, щоб вважатися темно-червоним. Сам матеріал це звичайна смола. Система заправки – картріджно-конвертерна, свого пропрієтарного формату Sailor, ручка комплектується фірмовим конвертером, але має незвичайний жовтий колір ручці приводу поршня. Ковпачок на різбленні, різблення 2-х західне, закриття\відкриття за 1.5 обертів.

Actually, in terms of shape, the pen is no different from its international version, the Sailor 1911 Standard, and has a cigar-shaped form with taper rounded ends. But the color of the body is called Maroon, for those who are not in theme, it is a semi-dark red color, a little warmer than Burgundy, but not yet so dark red. The material itself is ordinary resin. The filling system is cartridge-converter, of its proprietary Sailor format, the pen is complected with branded converter, which has an untypical yellow piston knob. Cap on thread, 2-start thread, closing/opening in 1.5 turns.

З прикрас ручка має позолочену фурнітуру та доволі простий кліп притаманний молодшим моделям як Sailor Profit Brush. Широке кільце має традиційний надпис SAILOR JAPAN FOUNDED 1911, що відзначає дату створення компанії.

Of the decorations, the pen has gold-plated accents and simple clip typical lake in younger models as the Sailor Profit Brush. The wide ring has the traditional inscription SAILOR JAPAN FOUNDED 1911, marking the company’s founding date.

Перо: з нержавіючої сталі, покрите золотом, молодшого розміру 1911/Profit Standard. На перо нанесено традиційний орнамент, 1911, логотип компанії у вигляді якоря, фірмове написання бренду Sailor, та код 21G який говорить про дату виробництва – липень 2021 року. На лівому боці нанесено маркування кінчика – Z (Zoom). Перо з традиційним пластиковим фідером тримається на терті у секції. До речі фідер дуже якісний, подача чорнил до пера при сухій заправці складає приблизно 20 секунд – це дуже якісний показник, приблизно як у Монблан та Пелікан.

The nib: gold plated stainless steel, younger type like 1911/Profit Standard. The nib have the traditional ornament, 1911, the company logo in the form of an anchor, the branded Sailor signature, and the 21G data code which say about date of manufacture – July 2021. The left side have a tip mark – Z (Zoom). The nib with traditional plastic feed is mounted in section on friction. By the way, the feed is very good, because the flow ink from cartridge/converter to the nib on dry filling is approximately 20 seconds – this is a very high-quality indicator, approximately the same as Mont Blanc and Pelikan.

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина у складеному стані – 135мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 118мм. Діаметр корпусу – 12.2мм, в місці хвату – 10мм. Повна вага незаправленої ручки – 15.8гр(з конвертером 18.75г), а зі знятим ковпачком – 9гр(з конвертером 12г).

Overall dimensions of tool: folded length – 135mm, without cap – 118mm. Body diameter – 12.2mm, at the grip – 10mm. The weight of pen is 15.8g (with installed converter is 18.75g), and without cap – 9g (with converter 12g).

Хвилинки історії:
Чесно кажучи важко щось написати про історію цієї моделі яка має, можна сказати вже класичну форму. Про історію лінійки Profit/1911 я писав у пості Sailor Profit 21K (earlier version), так що єдине що я можу припустити що це доволі сучасна модель яка орієнтована на місцевий ринок(Японії) в якості недорогої ручки для школярів, яка має вигляд більш дорогої, але комплектується сталевим пером. Тобто це конкурент для Pilot Lucina та колишнього Platinum Balance. Зовнішньо та тактильно вона нічим не поступається майже вдвічі дорожчої Sailor 1911 Standart. Ще маю пару строк до маркування: перші цифри говорять про модель – 11-0570, а останні три цифри говорять про розмірність пера(1-EF, 2-F, 3- MF, 4-M, 6-B, 7-Zoom(Z), 9-Music(MS)) та колір(2-Black, 3- Maroon). Для прикладу 130 – це EF кольору Maroon, а 920 – це Music кольору Black.

Moments of history:
To be honest, it is difficult to write something about the history of this model, which has, one might say, a classic form. I wrote about the history of the Profit/1911 line in the post about Sailor Profit 21K (earlier version), so the only thing I can assume is that this is a fairly modern model that is aimed at the local market (for Japan) as an inexpensive schools pen that looks as more expensive, but is complected by stainless steel nib. That is, it is a competitor for the Pilot Lucina and previous Platinum Balance. Externally and on touch, it is in no way inferior to the almost twice as expensive Sailor 1911 Standard. I still have a couple moment to marking: the first numbers indicate the model – 11-0570, and the last three numbers indicate the dimension of tip (1-EF, 2-F, 3-MF, 4-M, 6-B, 7-Z(Zoom), 9-MS(Music)) and body color(2-Black, 3- Maroon). For example, 130 is EF in Maroon, and 920 is Music in Black.

Я вже дуже давно хотів спробувати справжнє перо Zoom, але мені ніяк не траплялась нагода, а тут дякуючи Dinh Ha з Reddit все склалось в майже найкращому вигляді (і колір крутий, і перо Zoom, і ціна приємна). Звісно в ідеалі хотілось би зробити огляд на золоте перо, але для того щоб скласти враження достатньо і сталевого.

I’ve been long time wanting to try a real Zoom nib, but I never got the chance, and here thanks to Dinh Ha from Reddit, everything turned out almost as good as possible (the color is cool, the Zoom nib is nice, and the price is low). Of course, ideally, I would like to review on solid gold nib, but a steel one is enough to make an impression.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,7 мм при звичайному положені ручки, та 0.5мм при вертикальному положенні ручки. При більш пологому розташуванні ручки лінія має товщину 0.8мм, що не суттєво. Натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 1,0 мм. Зворотний бік пише лінією в 0.4мм, пише гостро, але має більш прозору лінію. Подачу я би характеризував як вологу, більше середнього.

The width of the line by the right side is 0.7 mm when the hold pen in normal position, and 0.5 mm when pen hold is vertical position. With a low-angle hold of pen, the line has a thickness of 0.8 mm, which is not significant. Pressing allows to increase this line to 1.0 mm. The reverse side writes with line of 0.4 mm, writes crispy, and has a more transparent line. I would describe the ink flow as wet and over normal.

Що в підсумках: перше питання яке мене турбує – як щоб Sailor припинив випуск своїх ручок в цих кольорах чи були б вони теж настільки популярними як Montblanc Meisterstuck 146/147 Bordeux? :)). Тобто ви розумієте що я маю наувазі, – те що колір дійсно дуже привабливий. Стосовно якості виконання ручки у мене поки немає жодних претензій, а ось стосовно форми кінчика пера вимушен констатувати що це зовсім не Zoom – це просто товсте(широке) перо triple Broad(що не притаманно японцям), хоча при наближенні, кінчик виглядає доволі цікавим, навіть інженерно красивим. Але пам’ятаючи наші припущення до англомовних назв в японської промисловості, можно такоє припустити зо Zoom створилось не від терміну “можливості збільшуватись\змінбватись”, а від терміну “вже збільшилось”, тобто “збільшене Broad”)). А взагалі то такий розмір кінчика – це знахідка для нібмайстра, бо з нього можна зробити будь-яке перо від потужного Architect до Naginata Togi чи Concord. Звісно що я не залишу собі це перо таким як воно є, а скоріше за все зроблю з нього справжній зум аля Goccia(але з радістю вислухаю пропозиції від читачів:)).

At the end: the first question that bothers me is this pen would be also popular like a Meisterstuck 146/147 Bordeux if Sailor would to stop producing pens in these colors? :)). That is, you understand what I mean – that the color is really very attractive. Regarding the quality of build the pen, I still have no complaints, but regarding the shape of the tip this nib, I have to state that this is not really Zoom at all – it is just a thick (wide) Triple Broad(BBB) nib (which is not characteristic to the Japanese), although when you look magnify, this tip looks quite interesting, I would to say is engineering beautiful. But remembering our assumptions about English-language names in the Japanese industry, we can assume that Zoom name was created not from the term “possibility to increase\change”, but from the term “already increased”, i.e. “increased Broad”)). And in general, this size and form of tip is a grail type for nibmaster, because it can be used to make any type of nib from the powerful Architect to Naginata Togi or Concord. Of course, I will not leave this nib as it is, and rather make from it a real Zoom a-la Goccia (but I will gladly listen to suggestions from readers :)).

Як перше доповнення – фабричний продажний варіант. Коробка виглядає теж простішою ніж у звичного 1911 Standard.

А ось ще одна цікавинка – “з коробки” перо мало таку щілину між половинками, але на диво це ніяк не впливало на лінію що звичайною, прямою стороною, що зворотною. Гадаю це пов’язано з великим розміром самого кінчика. Звісно що я виправив після того як розібрав.

And here’s one more interesting thing – “out of the box” the nib had such a gap between the tines, but surprisingly it did not affect on the line both by the right an reverse sides. I think this is due to the overall large size of tip. Of course, I fixed it after I disassemble for this review.

Цікаво що секції у всіх однакові та взаємозамінні, а ось різблення на корпусі та ковпачку від Promenade до Profit/1911 не підходять, хоча між собою Profit <-> 1911 цілком взаємозамінні.

It is interesting that the sections are all the same and interchangeable, but the threads on the body with cap is little different: from Promenade to Profit/1911 do not fit, although Profit <-> 1911 are completely interchangeable.

Update 6:

У останньому доповнені традиційно ескіз, та оскільки сьогодні перо надзвичайно широке я хотів спробувати зробити “грубий ескіз”. Мені дуже подобається мінімалістичний стиль, але на жаль я поки ще не можу його освоїти. Планував не користатись зворотним боком пера при малюванні, але так і не зміг стриматись, тож вийшло як зазвичай)).

In the last addon is traditionally a sketch, and since today the nib is extremely wide, I wanted to try to make a “rough sketch”. I really like the minimalist style, but unfortunately I can’t master it yet. I said to me “do not use the back side of the nib” when drawing, but I couldn’t, so, it turned out as usual)).

Нещодавно Сергій одружився й у березні вперше став татом, але зумів побути зі своїм синочком лише декілька днів, бо ніс військову службу. У 2019 році майбутній Герой України отримав кваліфікацію льотчика третього класу, пішов служити до 299-ї бригади тактичної авіації, та йому довірили посаду командира авіаційної ланки.

Serhiy Parkhomenko – ace pilot, captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 25-year-old Serhiy has 38 sorties on the Su-25, the destruction of more than 50 armored vehicles and 20 enemy tanks. The officer died during a combat mission in the Gulyaipole on ​​Zaporizhzhia area. The title “Hero of Ukraine” was awarded to him posthumously. Serhiy’s father, grandfather and brother are also pilots, so Serhiy himself dreamed of connecting his life with army from childhood. Serhiy recently got married and became a father for the first time in March, but he was able to spend only a few days with his son because he must fight on russian war. In 2019, the future Hero of Ukraine received the qualification of a third-class pilot, went to serve in the 299th tactical aviation brigade, and was entrusted with the position of commander of the aviation unit.
