(modern) Giorgio Fedon 1919 Magma (Visconti Square&Circle)

Greetings everybody! Today in review is a fountain pen with interesting material of one well-known brand for another well-known brand)). This material is mixing a natural resin with celluloid and named manufacturer as Magma.

Вітаннячко усім! Сьогодні в огляді доволі цікава ручка відомого бренду для іншого відомого бренду)). Особливо цікавий матеріал з якого зроблена ручка, за ствердженням власника та виробника він являє собою поєднання натуральної смоли із кольоровим целулоїдом.

Giorgio Fedon 1919 Magma w|14K nib (made in Italy)

Модель заснована на лінійці Visconti “Square and Circle” яка являє собою у поперечному перерізі квадрат зі згладженими кутами, ідентичні модель я показував в огляді Visconti Opera Black Guilloche та Opera Club Orange. Матеріал корпусу, як я написав у анотації це поєднання натуральної чорної смоли та жовтого целулоїду названого компанією Magma. Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерна, формату інтернешенел (international), в секції є внутрішнє різьблення для фірмових конвертерів, що закручуються. Ковпачок на різьбленні, різьблення 4х західне, закриття/відкриття за 2 з 1/4 обертів.

This pen is based on Visconti “Square and Circle” line, which is a cross-section of a square with circled corners, identical to models which I showed in review Visconti Opera Black Guilloche and Opera Club Orange. The body material, as I wrote in the abstract, is a combination of natural black resin and yellow celluloid called Magma. The filling system is a cartridge-converter, international standard and section has an internal thread for screw-in branded converters. Cap on thread, 4-start thread, 2 and 1/4 turns need for closing/opening.

На мій погляд, ця модель більше схожа на серію Wall Street ніж до Opera, хоча і вона теж належить до лінійки “Square and Circle”. Навершя ковпачка прикрашене логотипом бренду GF та на відміну від ручок Visconti навершя не змінне та немагнітне. Кліп має нетипову форму для Visconti, але мені здається дизайнери намагались створити кліп схожий на шкіряний хлястик. Кріплення кліпу зроблене як у ранніх моделях Visconti Rembrandt на гвинту с протилежного боку.

On my opinion, this model is more like the Wall Street series than Opera, although it also belongs to the “Square and Circle” line. The cap’s top is decorated by medallion with GF brand logo and, unlike Visconti pens, the top is non-replaceable and non-magnetic. The clip has an unusual for Visconti shape, but it seems to me that the designers tried to create a clip similar to a leather whip. The clip connected to the cap by screw on opposite side, like on early Visconti Rembrandt models.

Як і у більшості картриджно-конвертерних систем Visconti, секція має різблення для більш надійного з’єднання з фірмовим конвертером. Перовий вузол має типовий для Visconti стакан і може бути замінений будь-яким пером Visconti 6 розміру.

As in most Visconti cartridge-converter systems, the section has a thread for a more reliable connection to the branded converter. The nib unit has the typical Visconti collar and can be changed to any size 6 Visconti nib unit.

Перо: золоте, 14 каратне, 6 розміру, повністю покрито родієм, не м’яке, але має трохи пружності. На перо нанесено логотип бренду GF, проба золота 14K-585 та країна виробництва – Italy. Цього разу я знов не зміг розібрати перо з розумним зусиллям, тому не відомо чи має перо типове клеймо у хвостовій частині.

The nib: 14k solid gold, size 6, rhodium plated, not soft, but has some springy. The surface have GF brand logo, 14K-585 gold sample and the country of made – Italy. This time again I was unable to disassemble this nib unit with reasonable effort, so it is not known if the tail have the typical jewelry mark.

The overall tool dimensions: folded length – 141,4 mm, without cap – 128.6 mm, body diameter – 12,4 mm(on faces) and 13,6(on edges), at the grip – 11 mm. The full weight is 32 g(with converter), and without cap – 19,4g.

Загальні розміри інструменту: повна довжина у складеному стані 141,4 мм, при знятому ковпачку – 128,6 мм, діаметр корпусу – 12,4 мм(по граням) та 13,6 (по ребрам), в районі хвату – 11 мм. Вага всього інструменту – 32 г(з конвертером), а без ковпачка – 19,4 г.

Джожіо Федон це італійська компанія яка працює у секторі шкіряних виробів, але починала як виробник футлярів для окулярів. Назвою компанія забов’язана своєму засновнику та починає свій відлік з 1919 року в містечку Валлеселла-ді-Кадоре. Візитною карткою компанії є помаранчевий колір, а асортимент складають валізи, портфелі, дамські сумки, портмоне, бізнес-папки, планінги, органайзери, візитниці, щоденники, косметички, жіночі ремені, футляри для окулярів, ключниці, брелоки, шкатулки особистих та офісних аксесуарів. З 1998 року компанія котується на Паризькій фондовій біржі Euronext, а з 2014 року на AIM Міланський фондової біржі. Компанія має 4 основних заводи в Італії, а також фабрику сумок у Румунії та побудований у 2004 році завод у Китаї Fei Dong. Зараз повна назва компанії – Giorgio Fedon & Figli Spa.

Gigio Fedon is an Italian company that works in the leather goods sector, but started as a manufacturer of eyeglass cases. The company owes its name to its founder and dates back to 1919 in the town of Vallesella di Cadore. The company’s business card is orange, and the assortment consists of suitcases, briefcases, ladies’ bags, purses, business folders, planners, organizers, business cards, diaries, cosmetic bags, women’s belts, glasses cases, key rings, key rings, caskets for personal and office accessories. Since 1998, the company has been listed on the Paris Stock Exchange Euronext, and since 2014 on the AIM of the Milan Stock Exchange. The company has 4 main factories in Italy, as well as a bag factory in Romania and a Fei Dong factory in China built in 2004. Now the full name of the company is Giorgio Fedon & Figli Spa.

Ручку я придбав півтора роки тому у стані нової, але випробувати та написати цей огляд довелось лиже зараз. Я трохи прибрав піддряпування зворотною стороною пера і більше нічого не чіпав.

I bought this pen a 1.5 years ago in NOS condition, but I was able to test it and write this review just now. I repolish the reverse side a bit because is a little scratchy, but didn’t touch anything else.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0.45-0.5 мм, натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,8 мм. Зворотний бік пише лінією в 0.3мм. Прямою стороною лінія доволі волога.

The line width by right side is 0.45-0.5 mm, and pressure allows to increase this line to 0.8mm. The reverse side is written with a line of 0.3 mm. The right side of the line is quite wet.

В останку: я не дуже люблю смугасті ручки особливо з сучасного акрилу, але це поєднання смоли та целулоїду доволі елегантне та витончене і дійсно додає враження, особливо коли на ручку падає сонячне проміння. В іншому це типова ручка Visconti, хоча без типових брендових болячок з пером, тобто з коробки писала дуже приємно. Форма “Square and Circle” дійсно дуже класна як зовні, так і тактильно. Єдиний мінус, як на мій смак, це глянсова доволі склизька секція, краще було б як би вона була з того ж матеріалу як на Wall Street.

At the end: I don’t really like modern waved many colors pens, especially modern acrylic ones, but this combination of resin and celluloid is quite elegant and sophisticated and really adds to the impression, especially when the sun is shining on the pen. Otherwise, this is a typical Visconti fountain pen, although without the typical brand nib’s problem, that is, it wrote very pleasantly just from the box. The “Square and Circle” form is really very cool both externally and tactility. The only con, for my taste, is the glossy rather slippery section, it would be better if it willwere made of the same material as on Wall Street.

А ось порівняння зі своїми найближчими братами чи сестрами: Visconti Opera Club Orange та Visconti Opera Black Guilloche. Цікаво, що ковпачки з двох інших Опер підходять, а ось цей ковпачок на корпуси двох других не одягається)).

And here is a comparison with its closest siblings: Visconti Opera Club Orange and Visconti Opera Black Guilloche. It is interesting that the caps from the other two Operas fit to this Magma, but this Magma cap does not fit on the bodies of the other two)).
