Pilot Justus 95 Net Black w|adjustable M nib (made in Japan) FJ-3MRR-NB-M-NT

Форма даної ручки циліндрична, майже пряма с пласкими закінченнями. Матеріал корпусу – смола чорного кольору, яка має червоний відтінок при просвічуванні. Покриття корпусу та ковпачка має текстуру під назвою “сітка”. Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерна свого власного формату Pilot. Ковпачок на різьблені, різблення 3х західне, закриття/відкриття за 1 та 1/6 обертів.

The shape of this pen is cylindrical, almost straight, with flat ends. The material of the body is black resin, which has a red light when backlighted. The body and cap surface have guilloche texture called “Net”. The filling system is a cartridge-converter of proprietary Pilot format. Cap on thread, 3-starts thread, open/close for 1 and 1/6 turns.

Ковпачок прикрашає родованний кліп з незвичним для Pilot візерунком та 2 кільця. На широке кільце нанесено PILOT JAPAN та JUSTUS95.

The cap is decorated by rhodium clip with an unusual Pilot pattern and 2 rings. PILOT JAPAN and JUSTUS95 are printed on the wide ring.

Перше за все модель відрізняється від усіх сучасних пер механізмом зміни м’якості пера. За принципом це не єдине перо у світі з такими можливостями, одразу на згадку приходить відомий Wahl-Eversharp Adjustable nib, але серед сучасних пер це єдиний представник. Жорсткість пера контролюється додатковим язичком який розташований над пером та може висуватись чи всуватись за допомогою обертання частки секції. Як що обертати секцію за часовою стрілкою то досягається положення Soft, а як що проти то положення Hard. На різбленні що з’єднує. з корпусом є гумове кільце ущільнювача.

First of all, the model differs from all modern fountain pens by the mechanism of changing softness of nib. In principle, this is not the only one pen with adjustable nib, the famous Wahl-Eversharp Adjustable nib immediately comes to mind, but it is the only representative among modern pens. The nib softness is controlled by an additional tongue that is located above the nib and can be extended or retracted by rotating the part of the grip. As you rotate the part of section clockwise, the steel tongue move to Soft position, and as you rotate it counterclockwise, the steel tongue move on Hard position. On section thread placed rubber O-ring.

Перо: одна з самих цікавих речей цієї ручки. Золоте, 14 каратне, доволі велике, гнучке перо яке повністю покрито родієм. Цікаво що за формою воно дуже схоже на звичайне перо №10, але за своїми властивостями на перо Falcon (FA), хоча і не має вирізів на крилах. На перо на ліву грань нанесено PILOT JAPAN, а на праву <M> 14K-585, де M – це розмір кінчика. Також в задній частині є ювелірне тавро компанії Pilot-Namiki – в овалі PP♔F. В хвостовій частині у пера є традиційні вушка позиціювання на фідері, та на ліве нанесено 820 – дата виробництва, серпень 2020 року. Вага пера – 0.61 г.

The nib: One of the most interesting things in this pen. A solid gold, 14 carat, rather large, flexible rhodium-pated nib. It is interesting that in shape it is very similar to a regular #10 nib, but in its properties it is similar to a Falcon (FA) nib, although it does not have cutouts on the shoulders. The nib is marked PILOT JAPAN on the left side and <M> 14K-585 on the right, where M is the tip size. Also in the tail placed a jewelry mark of the Pilot-Namiki brand – in an oval PP♔F. At the end of nib, on left ear (by side), is marked 820 – date of manufacture, August 2020. The weight of this nib is 0.61 g.

Загальні розміри інструменту: повна довжина – 147.8 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 134мм. Діаметр корпусу – 12.7мм, у місці хвату – 11.4мм. Вага – 22.3 г (тільки ручка без конвертера чи картріджа), а зі знятим ковпачком – 12.8 г. Майже як Pilot Custom 845.

Overall dimensions of the tool: full length – 147.8 mm, without cap – 134 mm. Body diameter – 12.7mm, at the grip – 11.4mm. Full weight is 22.3 g (without CON-70 converter or cartridges), and without cap – 12.8 g . Almost as Pilot Custom 845.

Про історію створення Adjustable nib від Pilot я писав в попередньому огляді на оригінальну ручку Pilot Justus.
У 2013 році компанія презентувала модель Pilot Justus до 95-річчя компанії, що відобразилося в назві моделі Pilot Justus 95. Ці моделі виготовляються з чорного пластику у двох дизайнах “stripe black” (SB – смугастий чорний) та “net black” (NB – чорна сітка), відповідно FJ-3MR-SB та FJ-3MR-NB, а також з родованим пером та акцентами FJ-3MRR. Сучасна версія Justus 95, на відміну від першої Justus, зроблена в дизайні з плоским закінченням і використовує перо сучасного 10 розміру. Перо виробляється в трьох розмірностях – F, FM та M з рекомендованою ціною ручок 30000 ¥.

Moments of history:
I wrote about the history of the creation of this adjustable nib by Pilot in a previous review of the original Pilot Justus.
In 2013, the company presented the reborn Pilot Justus model to the company’s 95th anniversary, which was reflected in the name of model name – Pilot Justus 95. These models are made of black plastic in two designs “stripe black” (SB) and “net black” (NB), FJ-3MR-SB and FJ-3MR-NB respectively, additional also with rhodium plated nib and accents – FJ-3MRR. The modern version of the Justus 95, unlike the first Justus, is made in a flat-ended design and uses a modern size 10 nib. The pen is complete by F, FM and M size of tip with recommended price of ¥30,000.

Цю ручку я також вирішив спочатку випробувати, а вже потім розібрати для огляду. Єдине що мені здалось що зворотний бік занадто шкрябає тому я його трохи підполірував перед тестом.

I also decided to test this pen first, and then disassembled it for review. The only thing, the reverse side seemed to me was too scratchy, so I polished it a little before the test.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0.4-0.45мм, при цьому натиск дозволяє збільшити лінію до 0.8 мм у положенні “Hard” і до 1.0 мм у положенні “Soft”. Зворотний бік дає лінію шириною 0.25-0.3 мм, але при цьому трохи прозору. Обидві сторони пишуть зараз дуже гладко.

The width of the line by the right side is 0.4-0.45 mm, while the pressure allows you to increase the line to 0.8 mm in the “Hard” position and up to 1.0 mm in the “Soft” position. The reverse side gives a line 0.25-0.3 mm, but little transparent. Both sides write now very smooth.

В решті решт: Перше що хочеться зазначити що це доволі крупна ручка зручного розміру яка нагадує привабливий Pilot Custom 845. Шикарний гільош тільки додає привабливості. Перо м’яке ти приємне. Тобто може здатись що ручка має тільки плюси і не зрозуміло чому вона не користується шаленим попитом, але, але … Самий значний мінус це занадто вологе перо яке просто нівелює здібності гнучкості. Другий момент який я поки до кінця не зрозумів – при тесті у мене постійно забруднювались пальці – це я буду ще аналізувати. В іншому випадку, як що вам подобається м’яке перо та дизайн с пласкими закінченнями, а модель 912 вам здається занадто малою, то варто придивитись до Justus 95.

At the end: The first thing I want to note is that this is a large pen of a pleasured size, which resembles the famous Pilot Custom 845. The gorgeous guilloche only adds to the attractiveness. The nib is really soft or even semi-flex, which is pleasant. That is, it may seem that this pen has only pros, and it is not clear why it is not in great demand, but, but … The most significant con is a too wet nib, which simply reduces the properties of flexibility. The second point, which I still haven’t fully understood – during the test my fingers were is inked – I will analyze this further. Otherwise, if you like the soft nib and flat-end design but find the 912 too small, the Justus 95 is worth a look.

У мене немає повного набору, щоб показати вам як він виглядає, яле я хочу показати як виглядає текстура. Ця модель ще має текстуру “стрічки”, але мені більше подобається цей малюнок, який ще називають barleycorn – ячмінне зернятко.

I don’t have a retail set to show you, but in the first addon I want to show you what the texture looks like. This model also have the “stripe” texture, but I like this pattern better, which is resembled me vintage barleycorn.

За відчуттями різниця при використанні пера у положенні Hard та Soft приблизно така сама як між звичайним пером Pilot чи SF та пером Falcon (FA) №15. Просто зараз у мене немає ні звичайного пера, ні SF щоби точніше висловитись до якої жорсткості перо більше схоже у положенні Hard, але різниця є. За загальною м’якістю спочатку йде Falcon #10, потім Falcon #15, потім Pilot Justus і тільки потім Justus 95. Але різниця між Pilot Justus та Pilot Justus 95 дуже маленька. Більш точно я зможу порівняти лише коли переточу це перо до розміру EF (UEF) як на моєму Pilot Justus.

The difference in feel when using the nib in the Hard and Soft positions is about the same as between a regular Pilot or SF nib and a #15 Falcon (FA) nib. It’s just right now I don’t have any regular or SF nib for more precise compare about which stiffness the pen is more similar to in the Hard position, but there is a difference.  In terms of overall softness/flexibilities, Falcon #10 comes first, then Falcon #15, then Pilot Justus and only then Justus 95. But the difference between Pilot Justus and Pilot Justus 95 is very small. I will only be able to make a more accurate comparison when I grind this nib to EF (UEF) size like on my Pilot Justus.

А ось порівняння зі своїми найближчими братами чи сестрами за розміром: Pilot Custom 845 та Pilot Custom 743. Цікаво, я не знаю навіщо бо це не технологічно, але ні різблення, ні навіть діаметри не збігаються з серією Custom, абсолютно.

And here is a comparison with their closest siblings in terms of size: Pilot Custom 845 and Pilot Custom 743. Interesting, I don’t know why because it’s not technological, but neither the threads, nor even the diameters match to the Custom series, absolutely.

Update 6:

А ось неприємний момент про який я згадував вище: чорнильні пальці. Вже давно у мене такого не траплялось з ручками, але зовні, з ручкою, начебто все ок. Тому я не знаю чи є всередині тріщина, чи це просто із за того що пальці сповзають за гладкої секції ближче до пера та в якийсь момент його торкаються. Трохи пізніше зроблю ключ та розберу секцію щоб подивитись.

And here is the unpleasant moment that I mentioned above: inky fingers. It’s been a long time since I’ve had this happen to me with modern pens, but outwardly, with the pen, everything seems to be ok. So I don’t know if there’s a crack inside or if it’s just from fingers sliding over the smooth section closer to the nib and touching it at some point. A little later I will make a key and disassemble the section to look.

Доказ дуже вологої подачі: за тест, та 3 тестових сторінки А5 я використав майже весь конвертер Con-40.

Update 20.02.2023:

Не став довго чекати та відтягувати на безвік і зробив ультратонке перо як обіцяв вище.

I did not wait long time and made an ultra-extra-fine nib as promised earlier.

Трохи додатково проміжного чорнового варіанту(посередені). Оскільки перо покрито родіем то треба було працювати тільки з кінчиком де розташована твердосплавна напайка.

A little extra interim draft version(middle). Since this nib is rhodium plated, so it was necessary to grind only the tip where the soldered hard alloy.

Цього разу вирішив не робити Drawing nib, хоча кінчик доволі великий та сприяв цьому, але я просто зробив тонке перо з привабливою площадкою зверху.

This time I decided not to do a Drawing nib, although the tip is quite large and have more material to did it, but I just made a UEF nib with an attractive plaque on the top.

Для порівняння з першим Pilot Justus я вирішив протестувати на тих самих чорнилах Pelikan 4001 Blue-black, які дуже классно працюють на флексових перах.

To compare with the first early Pilot Justus, I decided to test with the same Pelikan 4001 Blue-black ink, which works very well on flex nibs.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0.2мм, при цьому натиск дозволяє збільшити лінію до 0.8 мм у положенні “Soft” (я не користуюсь положенням “Hard”). Зворотний бік дає лінію шириною 0.15 мм, та дозволяє зробити помітну 6 слойну(!!!) штриховку. Обидві сторони пишуть дуже гладко для свого розміру.

The width of the line by the right side is 0.2 mm, while the pressure allows you to increase the line to 0.8 mm in the “Soft” position (I don’t use the “Hard” position). The reverse side gives a line 0.15 mm, and allows to make a noticeable 6-layer(!!!) shading. Both sides write very smoothly for their size.

Що у підсумку: Вийшло прогнозоване класне перо у класному привабливому корпусі яке дозволяє комфортно красиво писати, як повсякденно, так і привабливо підписувати листівки та привітання. До речі, проблема з брудними пальцями не повторювалась, мабуть, минулого разу я погано просушив ручку після промивки перед тестом. З іншого боку я помітив два неприємних моменту: перший – секція найгладша з усіх моїх ручок бренду Pilot і пальці постійно бажають спуститись нижче до пера; друге – коли закручуєш корпус після заправки то ліва рука яка тримає секцію буде постійно вивертати перо у положення “Hard”, що для мене не дуже приємно і додає механічного навантаження на механізм. З точки зору м’якості це перо знаходиться десь посередині між Falcon (FA) #15 та Falcon SEF nib, що дозволяю доволі комфортно використовувати його для каліграфії. Як я писав вище, можна зробити додаткові вирізи як у пера FA і думаю воно порівняєтеся у гнучкості з пером Falcon (FA) #10 або навіть перевершить його, але мені це не потрібно)).

What’s at the end 2: Was a cool nib in a beautiful, attractive body, which allows to comfortably handwriting, both everyday, and attractively sign postcards and greetings. By the way, the problem with inky fingers did not repeat itself, probably previous one I did not completely dry the pen before the test after clean. On the other hand, I noticed two unpleasant moments: the first – the section is the smoothest of all my Pilot’s pens and my fingers constantly want to go down to the nib; the second – when you screw the body after filling, the left hand holding the section and will constantly twist nib to the “Hard” position, which is not very pleasant for me and adds mechanical stress to the mechanism. In terms of flexibility, this nib is placed between the Falcon (FA) #15 and Falcon SEF nib, which makes it quite comfortable to use for calligraphy. As I wrote above, possibility make additional cuts on shoulders like on the FA nib and I think it will be to add flexibility near to the Falcon (FA) #10 pen or even surpass it, but I don’t need it)).

А ось зробив пару кадрів для порівняння з орігінальним Pilot Justus, також переточеним в UEF з пера M, яке зараз одно іх улюбленіших та комфортних для малювання.

And I made this photo for comparison with the original Pilot Justus, which also ground to UEF from the M size nib, which is now one of my favorite pen and comfortable for drawing.

Більш крупно. Як що порівнювати гнучкість між цими двома перами, то я згоден з перовим комьюніті що перо на оригінальному Pilot Justus має трохи більшу гнучкість. Але ця різниця настільки мала що відчути її можна лише коли тримаєш та пробуєш обидві ручки одночасно.

More magnify. As far as comparing the flexibility between these two nibs, I agree with the fountain pen community that the nib on the original Pilot Justus has slightly more flex. But this difference is so small that you can feel it only when you try both pens at the same time.
