Hi! In the previous review, I wrote that there were reasons to write a review on rOtring 600 now – so here is this reason. Last year I bought this rOtring 600 Black to my Silver, and it turned out to be a Newton – so, even experienced fans of fountain pens can make mistakes)). At first, I was a little sad, but then, on the contrary, I was happy, because this is a good addition to my fountain pens knowledge base. By the way, there was another reason, which will be described a little later))

Привіт! У минулому огляді я написав що були причини написати огляд на rOtring 600 саме зараз – так ось ця причина. Торік я придбав rOtring 600 Black до свого Silver, а виявилось що це Newton – то ж навіть досвідчені прихильники перових ручок можуть робити помилки)). Спочатку я трохи посумував, а потім навпаки зрадів, бо це непоганий додаток до моєї скарбнички знань. До речі був ще один привід, про який трохи згодом))

rOtring Newton (made in Germany) R502 952 / R502 956

Форма цієї ручки майже така сама як і попередньо описаний rOtring 600, така ж складна для опису та в загальному плані вона являє собою 6 кутник у профілі та тако ж повторює відомий механічний олівець. Корпус виконано із латуні та покрито матовим чорнінням(є ще друга модель з хромованим покриттям). Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерна стандарту Інтернешнл (international). Ковпачок на терті з кліком наприкінці.

The shape of this pen is almost the same as the previously described rOtring 600, as difficult to describe and in general it is a hexagonal in profile and also repeats the well-known mechanical pencil. The body is made of brass and covered by matte blackening (there is another model with a chrome coating). The filling system is a cartridge-converter of the international format. Cap on friction with click at the end.

На відміну від моделі Rotring 600 відсутні насічки на секції та елементах корпусу. Чорніння проведене всіх металевих частин включаючи різблення між секцією та корпусом. На жаль мені не вдалось витягнути фідер докладаючи розумні зусилля і це, мабуть, лише друга ручка з якою мені поки не пощастило)).

Unlike the Rotring 600 model, there are no notches on the grip and body elements. All metal parts are blackened, including the thread between section and body. Unfortunately, I can’t disassemble feed from section by reasonable efforts and this is probably only the second pen which I have not been lucky yet)).

На rOtring 600 більше за все було нарікань від користувачів на ненадійну застібку ковпачка яка згодом переставала гарно тримати та у моделі Newton компанія провела роботу над помилками і запровадила додаткові вушка яки застібуюся за додаткове металеве кільце. Це єдине нововведення яке робить Newton кращім за попередній 600.

On the rOtring 600, there were more complaints from users about the unreliable fastening of the cap, which stopped holding well through the time, and in the Newton model, the company worked on errors and introduced additional ears that hold on an additional metal ring. This is the only innovation that makes the Newton better than the previous 600.

Ковпачок також прикрашено фірмовим червоним кільцем (rot ring) та вже знайомим кліпом на якому розташовано тиснення rOtring. На кільце кліпу нанесено ледве помітний напис країни – Germany.

The cap is also decorated by the branded red ring (rot ring) and already familiar clip on which the rOtring is embossing. The ring of the clip has a barely noticeable inscription of the country – Germany.

Перо: невелике, сталеве, жорстке перо, яке, на перший погляд, дуже схоже на перо моделі rOtring 600, але, на жаль, це не так. На ліву грань пера нанесено ім’я бренду rOtring, а на праву – розмірність кінчика M.

The nib: small, stainless steel, rigid (hard) nib that looks very similar to the rOtring 600 model, but alas, it is not. On the left side of the nib is the rOtring brand name, and on the right is the size of tip – M.

Перо 2(другий резон обіцяний в на початку): це перо я придбав коли у мене з’явився rOtring 600. Я розумів що стандартним пером я не буду користуватись, але хотів користуватись ручкою, тож вирішив придбати додаткове перо та перетворити його у Italic. На жаль пер до rOtring 600 окремо не продавались на відміну від Newton. Тоді я сподівався що мене вдасться перетворити його на перо до 600, бо на зовнішній вигляд воно здавалось дуже схожим за геометрією. Перо для Newton трохи довше тож я відрізав займе, але виявилось що кривина поверхні відрізняється. Оскільки я не хотів псувати оригінальний фідер форму.чи його під це перо я відклав огляд rOtring 600. Але, зараз, коли у мене на руках з’явився Newton я вирішив повернутись до свого колишнього проєкту)). Тож я повернув колишню кривину склепіння та налаштував його під цей Newton. На ліву грань пера нанесено ім’я бренду rOtring, а на праву – розмірність кінчика BB, який я переточив в Crisp Italic.

The Nib 2 (second reason promised at the beginning): I bought this nib when I got the rOtring 600. I understood that I would not use the standard boring nib, but I wanted to use a pen, so I decided to buy an additional nib and re-grind it to Italic. Unfortunately, unlike the Newton, the rOtring 600 nib was not sold separately. Then I hoped that I would be able to turn it into 600 model, because it looked very similar in geometry by photo. The nib for the Newton is a little longer, so I cut it off, but it turned out that the surface curvature is different. Since I didn’t want to spoil the original 600 feed form, I postponed the rOtring 600 review. But, now that I have a Newton in my hands, I decided to return to my old Italic project, and also 600)). So I reverted the previous arch curve and adjusted it to fit in this Newton. On the left side of the nib is the rOtring brand name, and on the right is the size of the tip – BB, which I ground to Crisp Italic.

The overall tool dimensions: folded length – 137,7 mm, without cap – 126 mm, body diameter – 10,2 mm(on faces) and 11,7(on edges), at the grip – 8.5mm. The full weight is 37,3g(w/o cartridge/converter), and without cap – 23,4g.

Загальні розміри інструменту: повна довжина у складеному стані 140,6 мм, при знятому ковпачку – 125,2 мм, діаметр корпусу – 10,2 мм(по граням) та 11,7 (по ребрам), в районі хвату – 8.5мм. Вага всього інструменту – 37,3 г(без конвертера та картриджа), а без ковпачка – 23,4 г.

Хвилинки історії:
Відомо що модель rOtring 600 з’явилась у 1989 році, а дати релізу на модель Newton немає. Але у каталозі rOtring за 1996 рік ще представлено rOtring 600 та інші моделі, а в каталозі 1998 року вже немає rOtring 600 замість якого представлено rOtring Newton. Більше того в історичній довідці на початку каталогу вказано що з 1989 року rOtring 600 перетворився на Newton запровадивши новий рівень естетичної якості.

Moments of history:
It is known that the rOtring 600 model released in 1989, and there is no release date for the Newton model. But the rOtring catalog for 1996 still has the rOtring 600 with other models but no Newton, and the 1998 catalog hasn’t the rOtring 600, instead of which the rOtring Newton is presented. Moreover, the historical reference at the beginning of the catalog states that since 1989, the rOtring 600 has transformed into a Newton, introducing a new level of aesthetic quality.

А ще в цьому році було анонсовано нове ексклюзивне покриття Lava на додаток до наявних чорному та сріблястому матованим, яке тактильно додавало чіпкості та виглядало як поєднання лави та карбону.

Also in 1998, a new exclusive Lava coating was announced in addition to the existing black and silver matte, which added tactile grip and looked like a combination of lava and carbon.

Пізніше, у 2005, дизайн rOtring Newton було змінено на сучасний, більше округлий та менше привабливий і зовсім не схожий на початковий rOtring 600. Здається мені що він втратив строгість, елегантність та справжній дух Баугауз.

Later, in 2005, the design of the rOtring Newton was changed to a modern one, more rounded and less attractive and not at all similar to the original rOtring 600. It seems to me that it has lost the rigor, elegance and true Bauhaus spirit.

Мені здається що я придбав комплект у стані NOS, в який було встановлено спеціальний фірмовий фальш-картрідж-заглушку. Але, пробачте, я не став тестувати перо М яке було встановлено спочатку, бо воно не являє собою будь-якого інтересу, то ж я одразу почав с тесту Crisp Italic BB.

I think I bought this fountain pen in NOS condition in retail set that had a special branded demo-fake-empty-cartridge plug installed. But, sorry, I did not test this M nib that was installed, because it is boring and not interest for me, so I immediately started test with Crisp Italic BB.

Я вже не можу знайти своїх записів що до початкової лінії пера BB, але зараз ширина ординарної лінії прямою стороною при вертикальному веденні становить – 1.0мм, а при горизонтальному веденні – 0.2мм, подача помірна. Зворотний бік має супер гладку,  нестабільну та напівпрозору лінію: при вертикальному веденні – 1.0 мм, а при горизонтальному веденні – 0.5 мм.

I can’t find my old records of the original BB nib line, but now the width of ordinary line by right side in vertical direction is 1.0 mm, and horizontal direction – 0.2 mm, the flow is moderate. The reverse side has extremly smooth, nonstabile and semi-transparent line: on vertical direction – same 1.o mm, and on horizontal direction – 0.5mm.

Що в остатку: як я писав раніше, після отримання я дуже засмутився що отримав на 600, а Newton, але через деякий час я зрозумів що так навіть краще. По-перше, я реалізував старий проєкт з класним Crisp Italic, а по друге поповнив свій досвід ще одним оглядом. Що до зручності користування: попри те що цей гріп трохи тонший за відсутності насічок, я не відчув дискомфорту при користуванні, але на зовнішній вигляд він менш стильний. Але додаткові вушка що фіксують ковпачок це дійсно гарна інновація. Я не знаю чому 600 модель значно дорожча за Newton, адже вони обидві дуже стильні та зручні та я вважаю їх дійсно культовим, хоча точно не Грааль як багато хто їх називає)).

At the end: as I wrote earlier, after receiving it, I was very upset that I got Newton instead 600, but after a while I realized that it was even better. Firstly, I finished my old project with the cool Crisp Italic, and secondly, I expanded my experience by one more review. As for performance: despite the fact that this grip is a little thinner and hasn’t notches, I did not feel discomfort when using it, but it looks less stylish. The additional ears that fix the cap are a superb innovation. I don’t know why the 600 model is much more expensive than the Newton, because they are both very stylish and comfortable and I consider them really iconic, although definitely not the Grail as many call them)).

У першому доповнені хочу показати як виглядає повний комплект: картонна коробка, фірмовий футляр про який я писав у попередньому огляді, інструкція з використання, гарантійний талон, один демо-картрідж, один картрідж з синім чорнилом та конвертер.

In the first addon, I want to show what has the retail set: cardboard box, branded plastic case that I described in the previous review, an instruction manual, warranty card, one demo cartridge, one right cartridge with blue ink and converter.

До речі, в павутині, багато хто ображається на продавців Ebay, яки виставляють Newton з описом rOtring Newton 600, адже вони вважають що rOtring 600 та rOtring Newtom це абсолютно різні моделі. Але як я писав вище навіть сама кампанія вважає Newton нащадком 600, та навіть на коробці вказано що це саме є 600 серія.

By the way, in the web, many people are offended by Ebay sellers who titled Newton as rOtring Newton 600, because they believe that rOtring 600 and rOtring Newtom are completely different models. But as I wrote above, even the company itself considers Newton to be a descendant of the 600, and even on the box it is indicated that this is the 600 series.

Візуальне порівняння золотого пера від rOtring 600 зі сталевими від rOtring Newton. На жаль я не можу порівняти візуально фідери, але кривина поверхні та діаметр склепіння не збігаються.
