Hey community! Today I close the Pilot Heritage theme with the last tool not reviewed before, and it is the one Pilot’s modern piston-filler model.

Pilot Custom Heritage 92 Translucent Black F (made in Japan) FKVH-15SRS-TB-F

Heritage то є спадщина, тож форма корпуса подібна до перших перових ручок – циліндрична с плоскими закінченнями. Це модель яка доповнює лінійку Heritage до моделей 91 та 912. Корпус виповнено із напівпрозорою смоли чорного кольору з хромованою фурнітурою, хоча я би назвав цей колір попільним. Система заправки – поршнева. Ковпачок з різьбою, різблення 2х західне, відкриття/закриття за 1 1/3 обертів.

Heritage is a legacy, so the shape of the body is similar to the early fountain pens – cylindrical with flat ends. This model complements the Heritage line to the 91 and 912 models. The body is made of translucent black resin with rhodium-plated fittings, although I would call this color translucent ash. Filling system – classic piston-filler. Cap on thread, 2-starts thread, opening/closing in 1 1/3 turns.

Елементи брендування присутні лише на ковпачку. На широке кільце нанесено Pilot Japan та CUSTOM HERITAGE 92. Дивно, але на кліпі відсутній напис Pilot.

Branding elements are present only on cap. The wide ring have Pilot Japan and CUSTOM HERITAGE 92. Surprisingly, there is no Pilot inscription on the clip.

Мабуть цікаво подивитись як працює механізм заправки та з яких елементів складений ковпачок, але мені здається це забавка на 1 чи 2 рази, тож я не бачу у цьому сенс. А як що згадати що прозорий пластик (смола) більш крихкі ніж не прозорі, то взагалі замислюєшся навіщо вони є)). З цієї ж причини я не став розбирати поршневий механізм для фотографування, бо ця смола здається ще тонкішою ніж у 823 модулі. Як щоб це була моя ручка, то вірогідно я би її розібрав, а оскільки вона чужа, нова та працює без проблем – я відмовився від повного розбирання.

It might be interesting to see how the filling mechanism works and what elements the cap is made of, but it seems to me like a 1- or 2-time hobby, so I don’t see the point in it. And if remember that transparent/translucent plastic (resin) is more fragile than non-transparent, then I wonder why they are there)). For the same reason, I did not disassemble the piston mechanism for photography, because this resin seems to be even thinner than the 823 model. If it were my pen, I would probably take it apart, but because it is not my pen, new which works without problems, I refused to completely disassemble it.

Перо: золоте, 14 каратне, покрито родієм, молодшого 5го розміру Pilot. На перо нанесено флористичний візерунок, ім’я бренду Pilot, якість золота 14K585, розмір 5 та розмірність кінчика <F>. Під візерунком ліворуч розташована дата виробництва пера та місце P1120 – листопад 2020 року на фабриці Hiratsuka, праворуч традиційне ювелірне клеймо виробника Pilot-Namiki. У хвостовій частині перо має невеличкі вушка яки призначені для правильного розташування пера на фідері. Величезна дірка яка є на перах 2021 року – відсутня.

The nib: solid gold, 14 carat, rhodium plated, junior 5th size Pilot. The nib has a floral pattern, Pilot brand name, 14K585 gold quality, size 5 and tip dimension <F>. Below the pattern on the left is placed date of production P1120 – November 2020 at the Hiratsuka factory, and on the right is a traditional jewelry mark by Pilot-Namiki brand. Also in the tail part of nib has small ears which are designed for correct mounting the nib on feed. The huge hole that is on the nibs made in 2021 and later is missing.

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина у складеному вигляді – 136.8 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 122 мм. Діаметр корпусу – 12 мм, у місці хвату – 10.3 мм. Повна вага ручки – 20.4 г, а без ковпачка – 12.3 гр.

Overall dimensions of the tool: folded length – 136.8 mm, without cap – 122 mm. Body diameter – 12 mm, at the grip – 10.3 mm. The total weight of pen is 20.4 g, and without cap it is 12.3 g.

Хвилинки історії:
CH92 були випущені як повністю прозорі демонстратори приблизно в жовтні 2010 року, як святкування 92 річниця заснування компанії (тобто з 1918). Кольорові версії були випущені через два роки, у 2012 році.. До лінійки Heritage входить 3 моделі – Pilot Custom Heritage 91, Pilot Custom Heritage 92 та Pilot Custom Heritage 912. Перші дві моделі однакові за розміром як пера, так і корпуса, та відрізняються лише системою заправки: 91 модель має картриджно-конвертерну систему, а 92 – поршневу. Цікаво що чорна версія 91 може комплектуватися більшою кількістю пер – EF・F・SF・FM・SFM・M・SM・B・BB, на відміну від 92 яка комплектується лише F・FM・M・B.  912 модель трохи більша, майже як 742 в порівнянні з 74, має перо 10 розміру та крім розмірностей до 91, має в своєму активі ще PO・FA・WA・SU・C・MS та конвертер CON-70. Трохи не зрозуміло чому до складу лінійки Heritage не входять дві найстарші моделі Custom 845 та Custom Urushi, бо мають такий самий дизайн крім фурнітури яка позолочена, а не хромована. Може “спадщина” це не про форму, а про колір? :))

Minutes of history:
The CH92 were released as clear demonstrators around October 2010, as anniversary of 92 years from company establishment(i.e. 1918). The colored versions were released two years later in 2012. The Heritage line includes 3 models – Pilot Custom Heritage 91, Pilot Custom Heritage 92 and Pilot Custom Heritage 912. The first two models are the same size as the nib and body, and differ only in filling system: 91 models have a cartridge-converter system and 92 – piston-filler. Interestingly, the black version 91 can be complete with more nibs – EF ・ F ・ SF ・ FM ・ SFM ・ M ・ SM ・ B ・ BB, unlike 92 which is complects only with F ・ FM ・ M ・ B. The 912 model is slightly larger, almost as 742 compared to 74, and has a nib size 10 and in addition to dimensions up to 91, it also can complects by PO ・ FA ・ WA ・ SU ・ C ・ MS and a CON-70 converter. It is not clear for me why the Heritage line does not include the two flagship models, the Custom 845 and Custom Urushi, because they have the same design except for accessories that are gold-plated and not rhodium-plated. Maybe “heritage” is not about shape, but about color? :))

Ручка мені була надіслана на налаштування пера, бо із коробки воно було трохи перетислим, після налаштування ручка протестована як зазвичай.

The pen was sent to me for nib tuning, because it was a little too pinched nib out from the box. After adjustment, the pen was tested as usual.

Ширина ординарної лінії прямою стороною становить  – 0.3 мм.  Додавання тиску дозволяє збільшити лінію до 0.6 мм. Зворотний бік пише лінією із тою самою шириною  в  0.3 мм, але менш вологіше. Подача стабільна, рівна.

The width of ordinary line by the right side was – 0.3 mm. Adding pressure allows to increase the line up to 0.6mm. The reverse side have line with the same width – 0.3 mm, but less wet. The ink flow is stable.

Що в підсумках: традиційно якісна, комфортна та приємна ручка для невеликих рук. Я би посперечався за прозорий дизайн, але розумію людей кому це подобається. До дизайну маю лише одне питання яке озвучу нижче в додатку, а врешті можу рекомендувати для покупки.

ps: забув згадати такий нюанс, що у прозорому корпусі, чорнила затикають між ребрами жорсткості у секції, звідки їх дуже важко вимити звичайним промиванням у воді, допомагає лише ультразвукова ванна. Проблема така сама як і у прозорих Pelikan М серії.

At the end: traditionally high-quality, comfortable and pleasant model for not big hands. I don’t agree with transparent design, but I understand people who like it. I have only one question about mechanical design, which I will leave below in the addon. Finally, I can recommend this pen for purchase.

ps: I forgot to mention one nuance that in a transparent body, the ink gets stuck between the stiffeners in the section(around feed), from where it is very difficult to wash them out by ordinary cleaning in water, only an ultrasonic bath helps. The problem is the same as with the transparent Pelikan M series.

А ось, обіцяна фотографія незрозумілого інженерного рішення. Поясню: на фото ми бачимо що поршень не доходить до втулки це на 1/3 об’єму резервуара, при чому у ручці ззаду ще є простір для штоку. Тож хто вкрав ще додатковий об’єм та чи можна його додати? Оскільки я не розбирав ручку то не можу це гарантувати, але теоретично його ще можна збільшити.

And here is the promised photo of an incomprehensible engineering design. Let me explain: on the photo, we can see that the piston does not close to sleeve, and have 1/3 of the tank volume behind, and there is still free space in piston knob back. So who stole the extra volume and can it be added? Because I did not full disassemble this pen, I cannot guarantee this, but theoretically it can possibly be increased.

This year’s list of Forbes Ukraine “30 to 30” laureates included a Cherkasy solder from the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of Mariupol, Victoria Kovbasiuk “Runa”. As Forbes Ukraine writes, the gunner dreamed of being a soldier since childhood. She signed a contract for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2018, when she was 19 years old. She began to “work” with the Igla-1 MANPADS, now the main weapon in the unit she commands is the S-60 57-mm anti-aircraft gun.
Runa goes on all combat missions, commanding calculations directly on the battlefield. This, according to her, adds confidence to subordinates.

Завдяки Денісу, маю змогу спробувати чорнила Caran dAche Cromatics.  Багато хто його радить як якісне чорнило, але сам ніяк не наважувався його придбати, щоб спробувати, тож щира подяка за це.

Thanks to Denis, I am able to try Caran d’Ache Chromatics ink. Many people recommend it as a high-quality ink, but I myself did not dare to buy it to try it, so I sincerely thank you for this.

Тож, чорнило дійсно дуже якісне і приємне. Більш за все мене здивував якісний червоний колір без малинового відтінку, як щоб не нотки помаранчевого при штриховці, то для мене він міг би бути замінником мого улюбленого червоного Matador від Dsamine. В порівнянні із Iroshizuku, мабуть, лише трошки меньш склизбки, але з гарною текучістю та класно працюют на непрімеальному папаері без жодного натяку на ялинку чи просачуємість. Однозначно треба спробувати ще в деяких інших перах, але перше враження дуже приємне.

So, this ink is really very high quality and nice. Most of all, I was wondered by the quality red color without a crimson tone. If this ink didn’t have orange tint in shade, then for me it could be a nice alternative to my favorite red Matador from Diamine. Compared to Iroshizuku, maybe just a tad less slippery, but with good fluidity and works great on non-premium paper without any hint of feathering or bleeding. Definitely need to try in some other nibs, but the first impression is very pleasant.
