(modern) Montegrappa Reminiscence Slim Short

Hey there! 5 years ago I already did reviews on this series, but unexpectedly it turned out that this is a short version of the slim model. At first I just think to add a new photo to the old review, but then I decided to make this a separate post.

Montegrappa Reminiscence Slim Short Sterling silver with Palladio pattern (made in Italy) RE3

Корпус цього інструмента являє собою такий самий 8-гранник у перерізі, виготовлений зі стерлінгового срібла, але система заправки лише картриджна, формату інтернешенл (intermnational). Ковпачок на різьбі, різьба однозахідна, закриття/відкриття за 1 1/3 оберта.

The design of this pen is a same octagonal shape and is made of sterling silver, but filling system is just cartridge by international standard. Cap on thread, single-start thread, closing/opening in 1 with 1/3 turns.

Корпус самої ручки та ковпачка покритий грецьким візерунком (Palladio), крім однієї грані ковпачка, яка передбачена для персоналізації власника. На всі частини ручки нанесено: клейма стерлінгового срібла — 925 в овалі, клеймо ювелірного дому Montegrappa ✩1140MI (річмонтівський період 2000–2009, Мілан) та країну виробництва Italy. На нижню частину ковпачка нанесено ще й назву компанії Montegrappa, традиційно написану курсивом. Перо з фідером кріпиться на терті у пластиковому стакані, який вклеєний у секцію та має чіткий ключ для правильного позиціонування, при цьому фідер виготовлений з ебоніту.

The body of this pen and cap are decorated by a Greek pattern (Palladio), except for one face of the cap, which is provided for personalization of the owner. All parts of the pen are marked with: sterling silver stamps – 925 in an oval, stamps of the Montegrappa jewelry house ✩1140MI (the Richemont’s period 2000-2009, Milano) and the country of origin Italy. On the lower part of the cap is also the name of the Montegrappa, written in traditional cursive font. The nib with feed mounted on friction in plastic collar that is glued into the section and has key for correct positioning, while the feed is made of ebonite.

Перо: таке саме золоте, 18-каратне, родоване перо, 5-го розміру таке саме ординарно жорстке. На перо по периметру нанесено «грецький візерунок», який залишився жовтого кольору, під вентиляційним отвором розташована назва бренду Montegrappa, ITALY, розмір пера EF та проба золота 750. У нижній частині, невидимій при встановленому пері, розташовані державне клеймо золота 750 проби та ювелірне клеймо дому Montegrappa ✩1055VI. (дорічмонтовський період, до 2000 року)

The nib: same solid gold, 18-carat, rhodium-plated nib, but only size 5, and at the same time usually hard(rigid). The nib has a “Greek pattern” along the perimeter, which remains yellow, under the air hole there is the brand name Montegrappa, ITALY, tip size EF and 750 is a sample of gold. In the lower part(on the tail), invisible when the nib is installed, there are the state mark stamp for 750 solid gold material and stamp of the jewelry house of Montegrappa ✩1055VI (before Richmont’s period, before 2000).

Загальні розміри інструмента: довжина у складеному вигляді — 111.8 мм, зі знятим ковпачком — 102,4 мм, із ковпачком, надягнутим на торець, — 140.7 мм. Діаметр корпусу по гранях — 10 мм, по ребрах — 10,6 мм, у місці хвату — 8,8 мм. Вага ручки без картриджа/конвертера — 25 г, а без ковпачка — 14.1 г.

Overall dimensions of the tool: folded length – 111.8 mm, without cap – 102.4 mm and posted – 140.7 mm. The diameter of the body along the faces is 10mm, along the edges – 10.6mm, in the grip – 8.8mm. The full weight of the pen without cartridge or converter is 25 g, and without cap is 14.1 g.

Власник цієї ручки попросив налаштувати перо і зробити загальну профілактику. Після перевірки виявилось що фідер повністю був забитий старим засохлим чорнилом, але нащастя це не було пігментне чорнило і фідер вдалось врятувати.

The owner of this pen asked to adjust the nib for pleasured writing and do some service. After checking, it turned out that the feed was completely clogged by old dried ink, but fortunately it was not psgmented ink and the feed was renewed.

Ширина ординарної лінії з-під пера прямою стороною становить — 0,4 мм, при цьому натиск збільшує лінію до 0,7 мм через більшу подачу. Зворотна сторона пише лінією розміром — 0,3 мм. Лінія соковита, з помірною подачею.

The width of an ordinary line by right side is – 0.4 mm, while the pressure increases the line to 0.7 mm due to the more flow ink. The reverse side writes in size – 0.3 mm. The line is juicy but with moderate flow.

У підсумку: гладке, прогнозоване перо із стабільною соковитою лінією, але на мій смак як раз не вистачає отих 2см довжини корпусу які присутні у просто Slim моделі. Так, звісно можна надягнути ковпачок на торец і корпус не буде дряпатись, оскільки він накручуєтся на різьбу, але я не люблю ковпачкі на торці бо вони окрім дряпання корпусу ще і зміщуют баланс.

At the end: smooth, predictable nib with a stable juicy line, but for my taste it just lacks those 2cm of body length that are present in the Slim model. Yes, of course you can posted cap and the body will not be scratched, because it is screwed, but I do not like posted caps because they, not only scratching the body, but also shift the balance to back.

Update 2:

Цю ручку мені надали із модернізованим(обрізаним) конвертером Waterman, але окрім часткового функціоналу він ще погано тримався у секції(випадав). Оскільки міста в корпусі для звичайного конвертера мало, то я підібрав самий короткий і також трохи його модернізував, але зараз він тримаєтеся у секції дуже щільно та надійно.

This pen was given to me with a modernized (cut) Waterman converter, but in addition to partial functionality, it still did not hold well in the section (fell out). Because there was not enough space in the body for a standard(Schmidt) converter, I chose the shortest one which I have and also modernized it a little, but now it holds very tightly and securely in the section.

Ken Watanabe (渡辺謙) is a Japanese actor. He is best known for playing tragic hero characters, such as General Tadamichi Kuribayashi in Letters from Iwo Jima and Lord Katsumoto Moritsugu in The Last Samurai, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Among other awards, Watanabe has won the Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Actor twice, in 2007 for Memories of Tomorrow and in 2010 for The Unbroken. He is also known for his roles in Christopher Nolan’s films Batman Begins and Inception, as well as Memoirs of a Geisha, and Pokémon Detective Pikachu.

In 2014, he starred in the reboot Godzilla as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa, a role he reprised in the sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. He lent his voice to the fourth and fifth installments of the Transformers franchise respectively, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Transformers: The Last Knight, as Decepticon-turned-Autobot Drift. In 2022, he starred in the HBO Max crime drama series Tokyo Vice.

He made his Broadway debut in April 2015 in Lincoln Center Theater’s revival production of The King and I in the title role. In 2015, Watanabe received his first Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical at the 69th Tony Awards for his role as The King. He is the first Japanese actor to be nominated in this category. Watanabe reprised his role at the London Palladium in June 2018, earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination.
