The button-filling system works wonderfully; the pressure is excellent both when filling and flushing, with no issues whatsoever. The button mechanism and its mounting assembly are made of aluminum (AF – aluminium filler).

Перо золоте, 14-каратне, має маркування Parker 14Ct, напівм’яке або напівжорстке — як хочете, тобто з варіативністю та достатньою пружністю; судячи з таблиці розмірів, знайденої в інтернеті, від F (~0.35–0.4 мм) до 3В (1.25 мм). Перо легко пише зворотною стороною, приблизно 0.25 мм, тобто між XXF та XF. При звичайному письмі перо легко ковзає в усіх напрямках, із невеликим зворотним зв’язком.

The nib is solid gold, 14-karat, marked Parker 14Ct, semi-flexible, i.e. with line variation and sufficient springiness. According to a nib-size chart I found online, its range is from F (~0.35–0.4 mm) to 3B (1.25 mm). The nib also writes easily by reverse side, approximately 0.25 mm, i.e. somewhere between XXF and XF. In ordinary writing, the nib glides easily in all directions, with a slight amount of feedback.

Всупереч деяким думкам, що варіативним пером некомфортно просто писати, можу сказати, що ручкою дуже комфортно користуватися при звичайному письмі (у моїй, далеко не маленькій, руці навіть без ковпачка), рука не втомлюється, хоча я віддаю перевагу важчим інструментам. Зате нею легко користуватися під час малювання, майже «як олівцем».

An example of the pen’s performance, both with variable line and ordinary writing, is shown below on the photo. Contrary to some opinions that a flexible nib is uncomfortable for ordinary writing, I can say that this pen is actually very comfortable for everyday writing (even in my not exactly small hand without posting). My hand does not get tired, although I personally prefer heavier instruments. On the other hand, it is very easy to use for drawing, almost “like a pencil.”

A minuts of history:
according to information from the ParkerPens website, Christian Olsen had been a Parker distributor in Europe since 1903, and in 1935 he began producing “his own” Parkers in Denmark (for the Scandinavian region). In 1948, Olsen introduced the Parker Popular model for the Scandinavian market, based on the Parker “VS” (Vacumatic Successor), which remained in this form until 1953. It was then fitted with an aerometric filling system instead of the button filler and, like the entire line of English Duofolds, was slightly shortened. However, the model was soon discontinued altogether and replaced by the increasingly popular English Duofolds. Occasionally, the Parker Populat model can be found with the Danish spelling “Populær”.
