Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age, Oversize, Piston filler (made in Italy) Vs-591-99F

Це досить великий і вагомий інструмент, циліндричної форми, із заокругленими навершями і трохи пузатим ковпачком. Матеріал виготовлення даної ручки дуже незвичайний і називається “Базальтова лава” (Basaltic lava) – і це одні з найнезвичайніших сучасних матеріалів. Як запевняє компанія, матеріал більш ніж на 50% складається з вулканічної лави вулкана “Етна” каталізованої разом зі смолою. Система заправки декларується як поршнева, проте фактично це вбудований конвертер (Captured Converter), що часто зустрічається у сучасних італійських майстрів. Взагалі ця модель закумулювала далеко не одну ексклюзивність і однією з них є байонетне кріплення ковпачка (Hook Safe Lock).

It is a fairly large(oversize) and weighty tool, cylindrical shape, with little rounded tops and a slightly pot-bellied cap. The material of this pen is very unusual and is called “Basaltic lava” – and this is one of the most unusual materials in modern times. According to the company, the material is more than 50% from the volcanic lava of the Etna mountain, catalyzed together with resin. The filling system is declared as piston-filler, but in fact it is a built-in (glued-in) converter (Captured Converter), which is often found among modern Italian fp. In general, this model has accumulated more than one exclusivity, and one of them is the bayonet mount cap system named Hook Safe Lock.

Як і всі моделі компанії Visconti, ковпачок обладнаний системою “My Visconti” з можливістю заміни навершя, яке кріпиться шляхом магніту. З прикрас ковпачок оснащений двома сталевими кільцями розташованими у центральній частині, та фірмовим кліпом у формі відомого мосту, який містить ім’я бренду – Visconti – та це, мабуть, одна з найпроблемніших частин цієї ручки. Річ у тому, що крім невеликого рельєфу на самому кліпі, текст виділений чорним лаком, як і в раніше показаних мною моделях, але в цьому випадку лак механічно нестійкий і легко повністю стирається. У нових, більш сучасних кліпах компанія вигадала альтернативні та більш зносостійкі варіанти, як, наприклад, з гравіюванням простору навколо літер.

Like all Visconti models, the cap is equipped with the “My Visconti” system with the possibility of replacing the top, which is attached by magnet. From the decorates, the cap have two steel rings located in the middle, and with original clip in the form of a famous bridge, which contains the brand name – Visconti. And this is perhaps one of the most problematic parts of this pen. The fact is that in addition to a slight relief on the clip, the text is highlighted with black varnish, like in the models I showed earlier, but in this case the varnish is mechanically unstable and can be easily erased completely. In newer, more modern clips, the company has come up with alternative and more durable method, such as engraving the space around the letters.

Між секцією та барелем розташоване широке сталеве кільце, на яке нанесено назву моделі – Homo Sapiens, схоже методом лазерного гравіювання. Ковпачок, крім незвичайного і дуже швидкого байонетного кріплення, оснащений внутрішнім пружним другим ковпачком, що запобігає перу від висихання і допомагає в ефективній роботі механізму закриття.

Between the section and barrel is a wide steel ring with model’s name – Homo Sapiens, similar to laser engraving. The cap, in addition to the unusual and very fast bayonet system, is equipped with an inner spring-loaded second cap that prevents nib from drying and helps in the effective operation of the closing mechanism.

Перо: власне, в оригіналі, ще одна інновація даної моделі та компанії – це добре відоме багатьом аматорам перових інструментів перо Dreamtouch, перо виконане з паладію 950 проби, яке вироблялося компанією Bock. Перо досить велике, 6го розміру, яке разом з пластиковим фідером монтувалося в пластикової втулки (collar) на терті і являє собою змінний пір’яний вузол (nib unit). На пері відтіснений фірмовий візерунок з написом VISCONTI розташованим у центрі, під дихальним отвором оригінальної форми у вигляді півмісяця. Під візерунком розташувалися написи 23K Pd950. Firenze та F(розмірність кінчика). Це було одне з найбільш, по-справжньому, м’яких сучасних пер, без претензії на флекс, але вкрай приємне у письмі.

The nib: in fact, in the original(earlier), another innovation of company has the Dreamtouch nib (well known to many fans now) made of palladium 950, which was produced by Bock. The nib is quite large, size 6, which, together with a plastic feed was mounted in collar on friction and is a replaceable nib unit. On nib placed corporate pattern with the VISCONTI inscription in the center under the breath hole in the crescent form. Under the pattern are the inscriptions 23K Pd950, Firenze and F (tip size). It was one of the most, truly soft modern nibs, no flex, but extremely pleasant to write.

А як мені стало нещодавно відомо, з початку цього року компанія Visconti запустила власне виробництво пер з нуля. Поки цими пір’ями комплектується модель Visconti Opera Polynesia. Однак я покажу 18К золоте перо, що випускається на заміну Dreamtouch пера з паладію. Із зовнішніх відмінних рис, трохи видозмінений шрифт VISCONTI та відсутній напис Firenze, є лише 18KT 750 та розмірність пера F.

Unfortunately, now these nibs are discontinued and are out of stock, and modern models, including Homo Sapiens, are complects with 18K gold nibs. And as I recently knew, since the beginning of this year, Visconti has launched its own production of nibs. For now, these nibs are available on the Visconti Opera Polynesia model. However, I will show you 18K gold replacing the Dreamtouch palladium nib. Of the external distinctive features, the VISCONTI font is slightly modified and the Firenze inscription is absent, there is only 18KT 750 and the tip size is F.

Традиційно в цьому місці розташовується абзац присвячений історії або компанії, або самої моделі. Однак про компанію я все що знав описав у більш ранніх постах, тож про модель… Напевно варто уточнити, що за запевненням компанії дизайнери розробляючи цю модель (концепцію) надихалися роботами Леонардо Да Вінчі – De Divina Proportione (Божественна пропорція). Ця книга з математики була написана італійським математиком Лукой Пачолі (Luca Pacioli) близько 1448, а ілюстрації виконував сам Леонардо Да Вінчі. Книга була надрукована у 1509 році. Суть видання були математичні пропорції (золотий переріз) та їх застосування до геометрії, мистецтва, перспективи та архітектури. Чіткість письмового матеріалу та відмінні діаграми Леонардо вплинули на суспільство і розвиток людства в цілому, впливаючи далеко за межі математичних кіл свого часу.
Я не знайшов точну дату анонсу цієї моделі, але гадаю приблизно це 2007 рік. Як писав вище, це була модель з цілим набором нововведень та інновацій: по-перше матеріал на основі лави який декларувався як особливо міцний, не займистий і практично невбивний, що до того ж легко вбирає вологу (це суттєва перевага для людей з вологими руками); по-друге це нове 23Каратне перо з паладію яке було анонсовано разом з моделлю Homo Sapiens і має приємну м’якість; по-третє, новий тип кріплення – байонет, який дозволяє швидко і міцно закривати-відкривати ручку без витрат додаткового часу.
На момент виходу були представлені 2 моделі: Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age та Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, які відрізнялися лише різною обробкою фурнітури. У першій вона була сріблястого кольору, а у другої бронзового. Також була представлена більш люксова модель Visconti Homo Sapiens Sterling Silver, яка зовні відрізнялася наявністю двох декоративних кілець і на барелі. Всі ці три моделі використовували плунжерну (vacuum filler) систему заправки, яку компанія назвала Single Reservoir Power Filler. Однак дуже швидко (за відгуками з FPN через проблеми з протіканням чорнила скрізь корпус) система заправки у Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age була замінена на вбудований конвертер (Captive Converter), а трохи пізніше випущена зменшена версія Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Midi, в яку також встановлювався вбудований конвертер, проте перо вже було не 6-го а 4-го розміру.
Не дивно, що за сукупністю рішень ця модель (серія) завоювала таку популярність, яку компанія вирішила розвинути, випускаючи в інших оформленнях. Так з’явилися моделі Dark Age (з лакованою чорною фурнітурою), Magma (з лакованою червоною фурнітурою), Elegance (картриджно-конвертерна зі смоли), Evolution (з гільошованим срібним ковпачком, паладієвим кліпом і спеціальним тубуларним пером Skele Perfecttouch). Також компанія запустила і випуск спеціальних видань з кольорового акрилоїду з напівпрозорим корпусом і новою плунжерною системою заправки Double Reservoir Power Filler: Florentine Hills & Crystal Swirl (2014), London Fog (2016), Chiantishire (2017), Jade & Bro 2018), Midnight in Florence (2019) та Blue Lagoon (2020). Цікаво, що серед задоволених користувачів Visconti Homo Sapiens найголовніший мінус відзначався як неможливість контролю рівня чорнила, як це зроблено у більшості поршневих систем. Так ось, торік компанія анонсувала дві моделі якраз щоб закрити це питання: Visconti Homo Sapiens Skylight (з віконцем) та Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream (з прозорою секцією в середній частині корпусу).

Traditionally, in this place I have a paragraph about history of the company or the model. However, I described everything I knew about the company in earlier posts, but about the model ..
Perhaps it is worth clarifying that, according to the company, the designers developing this model (concept) were inspired by the works of Leonardo Da Vinci in “De Divina Proportione”. This book about mathematics was written by the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli around 1448 and illustrated by Leonardo Da Vinci himself. The book was printed in 1509. The essence of the work was in mathematical proportions (golden ratio) and their application to geometry, art, perspective and architecture. The clarity of the written material and the excellent diagrams of Leonardo had a significant impact on society and the development of Homo Sapiens as a whole, influencing far beyond mathematical circles at one time.
I have not found an exact date for the announcement of this model. but presumably it’s 2007. As I wrote above, it was a model with a whole set of innovations: firstly, a lava-based material that was declared as flame-proof, very hard, almost unbreakable and moisture absorbing (this is a great advantage for people with wet hands or damp environment); secondly, it is the new 23K Palladium nib that was announced along with the Homo Sapiens model and has a truly pleasant softness; thirdly, a new type of fastening – a bayonet, which allows you to quickly and firmly close and open the handle without spending additional time.
At the time of the release, 2 models were presented: Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age and Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age, which differed only by fittings. The first one was made of steel and the second one was bronze. The more luxurious Visconti Homo Sapiens Sterling Silver model was also presented, which externally differed in the presence of two decorative rings on the barrel. All three models were equipped with a vacuum filling system called company as Single Reservoir Power Filler. However, very quickly (according to FPNer opinion due to problems with body ink leakage), the filling system in Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age was replaced with built-in converter (Captive Converter). A little later a reduced version of Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Midi was released, in which also installed a built-in converter, but with nib smaller (4th) size.
Not surprisingly, in terms of the totality of qualities, this model (series) gained such popularity that the company decided to expand by other designs: Dark Age (with lacquered black fittings), Magma (with lacquered red fittings), Elegance (cartridge-converter made of resin), Evolution (with a guilloche sterling silver cap, palladium clip and with special tubular Skeleton nib, which was later replaced by the 18K Perfecttouch ). The company also launched the release of special editions of colored acryloid with a partially transparent body and a plunger filling system named as Double Reservoir Power Filler: Florentine Hills & Crystal Swirl (2014), London Fog (2016), Chiantishire (2017), Jade & Bronze Swirl (2018 ), Midnight in Florence (2019) and Blue Lagoon (2020). Interestingly, among satisfied users of Visconti Homo Sapiens, the main cons was noted as the inability to control the ink level as in most piston-filler models. So, last year the company announced two models just to close this issue: Visconti Homo Sapiens Skylight (with a small windows) and Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream (with a transparent section in the middle of the body).

Нове золоте 18К перо, хоч і не настільки м’яке як Dreamtouch, і можна навіть сказати по-сучасному жорстке, але все-таки має деякий ступінь пружності. Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,4 мм, натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,7 мм. Зворотний бік пише сухо та тонко з шириною лінії 0.2мм.

The new 18K gold nib, although not as soft as the Dreamtouch, and one might even say in modern terms, is ordinary rigid, but still has a certain springly. The line width by right side is 0.4mm, and pressure allows to increase this line to 0.7mm. The reverse side writes dryly with interruptions with a line width of 0.2mm.

У підсумках: великий, вагомий, цікавий, неординарний інструмент з великою кількістю інновацій, включаючи швидкознімний ковпачок. Великим недоліком даної моделі є вбудований конвертер, а значить крім неможливості його обслужити, він ще має і малий обсяг чорнила. Другим неприємним моментом є облізла фарба з кліпу, що дуже засмучує. Що ж до золотого 18К пера – воно досить ординарне за сучасними мірками і без особливостей, з оригінальним Dreamtouch його порівнювати не доцільно, але серед ринку решти сучасних пір’яних ручок воно не буде ні програвати, ні вигравати. Однак бажання компанії мати повний цикл виготовлення пір’яних інструментів від корпусу до пера викликає повагу і сподіватимемося, що з часом інженери знайдуть потрібні формули для виробництва більш приємного пера теж

At the end: a large, weighty, interesting, extraordinary instrument with a lot of innovations including a quick-release cap. The big drawback of this model is the built-in converter, which means, apart from the impossibility of servicing it, it also has a small ink capacity. The second unpleasant moment is the peeling paint from the clip, which is very frustrating. As for the modern 18K gold nib – it is ordinary by modern standards and without features, it is not advisable to compare it with the original Dreamtouch, but it will neither lose nor win among the market of other modern fountain pen nibs. However, the company’s desire to have a full cycle of fp manufacturing from body to nib is respectable and let’s hope that over time, engineers will find the right formulas for producing nice nibs too.

А тепер трохи про сумне і, в принципі, досить поширене – а саме про італійську недбалість:(. Зазвичай, як ви бачите з моїх постів, перед тим як зробити огляд я розбираю кожен інструмент по можливості та роблю профілактику. Однак у цьому випадку я вирішив спробувати як це перо працює “з коробки”.Спершу я спробував це перо по сухому і зазначив, що воно писало дуже гладко і навіть не дряпало зворотним боком, тому я подумав ось що робить власне виробництво і відповідальність за свій продукт. Проте мене збентежила не симетрична садна на зворотному боці пера, ніби у майстра здригнулася рука при шліфуванні, з-під якої явно проступав жовтий метал… Моє побоювання підтвердилося першими штрихами, точніше їх повною відсутністю, та я відчув повне розчарування – таке перо не можна випускати за межі виробництва. Воно було настільки затиснене і заполіроване, що без натиску навіть чорнила не надходили на папір, писати можна було тільки натискаючи на перо. До того, навіть візуально було видно, що відполірований кінчик перевищує заявлену величину F. Добре, що для мене це не було проблемою, довелося злити чорнило і розібрати повністю ПУ. Після необхідного налаштування виявилося, що лінія з-під кінчика має ширину – 0.6мм, порядку М-В за європейськими стандартами. У результаті я трохи округлив форму кульки з п’ятачка свині та зробив правильну і спочатку заявлену розмірність F. Так що якщо що, то будьте на чеку! Єдине, що хочеться відзначити додатково, що якість твердосплавної напайки дійсно хороша і це дуже тверда напайка.

And now a little about the sad and, in principle, quite common – namely, about some Italian negligence :(. Usually, as you can see from my posts, before making a review, I disassemble each tool, if possible, and serviced. However, in this case I decided to try this nib works “from the box.” At first I tried this nib as dry and noted that it wrote very smoothly and did not even scratch the back side, so I thought this is what known “own production” and responsibility. But I was alarmed with not symmetrical abrasion on the back side of the nib, as if the master’s hand trembled while grinding, show yellow metal. My fear was confirmed by the first strokes, or rather their complete absence, and I felt complete disappointment – this nib can’t was released outside the factory? It actually NIB NOT WRITING! It was so pinched and polished that even stroke could not received ink on paper, it was possible to write only by constantly pressing on the nib. Moreover, it was even visually visible that this tip does not match F. It’s good that this was not a problem for me, I had to drain the ink and completely disassemble the NU. After the necessary adjustment and turned that the line from this nib has a width of 0.6 mm, I’d say this M-B according to European standards. As a result, I slightly rounded the shape of a tip from a pig’s patch and corrected shape to declared dimension F. The only thing that I would like to note additionally is that the quality of the tip is really good and the material is very hard.

Ось так ось, у 4-ті етапи, я підібрався до вдалого та приємного фіналу, ймовірно спочатку задуманого:). Зараз перо працює практично ідеально та точно, і їм комфортно не лише писати, а й малювати. Та мені дуже подобається ця ручка!

Фінальний та заключний апдейт традиційно присвячений тестовому ескізу – сьогоднішній герой мого ескізу – Ерік Айдл, один з учасників відомої трупи “Монті Пайтон”, який ніби дивовижно говорить “О! Кхм… а що у вас ще немає цього чудового інструменту? Ви хіба не “людина розумна”?”:).

Eric Idle is an English actor, comedian, author and musician. Idle is a former member of the British surreal comedy group Monty Python, a member of the parody rock band The Rutles, and the writer of the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical Spamalot (based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail).
Known for his elaborate wordplay and musical numbers, Idle performed many of Python’s songs, including “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” (from Life of Brian), and the “Galaxy Song” (from The Meaning of Life). After Monty Python’s Flying Circus, he hosted Saturday Night Live in the US four times in the first five seasons.
