(modern) Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age (Midi)

Hello everyone! Three months ago I reviewed the higher model, and now I want to review for you the younger model.

Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age, Midi, Piston filler (made in Italy) Vs-589-99F

Собственно данная модель полностью идентична раннее описанному Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Oversize за тем исключением что она уменьшенных размеров: корпус цилиндрический, изготовлен из специального материала на основе базальтовой лавы и специальной смолы. Система заправки производителем определена как поршневая, но на самом деле это вклеенный конвертер(captive converter). Колпачок изготовлен из того же материала и крепится на специальном байонете.

Actually, this model is completely identical to the previously described Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel Age Oversize, except that it is reduced in size: the body is cylindrical, made of a special material based on “Ethna” basalt lava and a special resin. The filling system is defined by the manufacturer as piston, but in fact it is a glued-in converter (captive converter). The cap is made of the same material as a body and is closed to a special bayonet.

Колпачок имеет фирменный клип по форме известного моста с надписью Visconti и также обладает фирменной системой сменных наверший на магните “My Visconti”. Так-же в средней части колпачка есть 2 декоративных кольца.

The cap has a branded clip in the shape of the famous bridge with Visconti inscription and also has a proprietary system of interchangeable top on magnet – “My Visconti”. Also in the middle part of the cap there are 2 decorative steel rings.

Между секцией и основным корпусом расположено металлическое кольцо с нанесенным на него именем модели Homo Sapiens. Гравировка достаточно глубокая, нанесена механическим способом на подобии фрезера. Интересно что на моей старшей модели гравировка более тонкая и покрыта сверху тонким слоем черного лака, что делает ее менее заметной.

Between the section and the main body there is a metal ring with the name of the model – Homo Sapiens engraved on it. The engraving is deep enough, applied mechanically, similar to a router. Interestingly, on my higher model(oversize), the engraving is thinner and covered with a thin layer of black lacquer on top, which makes it less visible.

Перо: 23каратное, знаменитое, паладиевое перо – Dreamtouch. Перо очень мягкое и приятное, 5 размера (на фидер 5.3мм). Перо с фидером крепится на трении в специальном стакане. На фидере есть специальное углубление для пера, для правильного позиционирования. В стакане никаких ключей нет. Интересно что сам стакан, в отличии от старшей модели, не имеет выемок под ключ, что сильно усложняет задачу обслуживания несъемного конвертера. На перо нанесен фирменный узор с воздушным отверстием в виде полумесяца с надписью VISCONTI, ниже расположены 23K Pd 950, Firenze, F.

The nib: 23 carat, famous paladium nib – Dreamtouch. The nib is very soft and pleasant, 5 sizes (for 5.3mm feed). Nib with a feed is mounten on a friction in plastic collar. The feed has a special indentation for the nib for correct positioning. There are no keys in the collar for feed or nib. It is interesting that the collar itself, unlike the higher model, does not have turnkey recesses, which greatly complicates the task of servicing the captive converter. The nib has a original pattern with a breathe hole as a crescent shape and inscription VISCONTI, 23K Pd 950, Firenze, F.

Общие размеры инструмента: длинна в сложенном состоянии – 137мм, без колпачка – 123мм. Диаметр корпуса – 13.3мм, а в месте хвата – 10.6мм. Общий вес – 38гр, а при снятом колпачке – 23.5гр.

Overall dimensions: folded length – 137mm, without cap – 123mm. Body diameter – 13.3mm, and 10.6mm in the grip. The total weight is 38g, and with cap removed – 23.5g.

For today, no historical facts, because everything that I knew I wrote in the previous review at the link above.

У данного экземпляра было несведение кончиков, отчего ручка сильно лила и давала пропуски при письме. После корректировки и настройки инструмент был протестирован.

This fountain pen had a gap between parts of the tips, which is why the pen has a wet and very thick oferwlow lines and sometimes with gaps when writing. After aligment and adjusting, the instrument was tested.

Ширина ординарной линии прямой стороной составляет – 0.4мм, при этом небольшой нажим позволяет увеличить эту линию до 0.8мм. Обратная сторона дает линию в 0.3мм. До коррекции линия прямой стороной составляла ~0.7мм.

The width of an ordinary line by the right side is – 0.4mm, while a slight pressure allows to increase this line to 0.8mm. The reverse side has a line of 0.3mm. Before the correction, the right side line was ~ 0.7mm.

В итоге: великолепное перо, которое к сожалению уже не производится, в меньшем корпусе, позволяет мирится со всеми остальными недостатками данной ручки. С открученным поршнем ручка превращается в веселую погремушку(ручка дребезжит):). Оверсайз мне нравится определенно больше и более комфортен для моей руки, но без палладиевого пера это лишь необычный материал корпуса:), пусть даже красивый:).

At the end: a great nib, which unfortunately is no longer produced, in a smaller body, allows you to put up with all the other cons of this pen. With the unscrewed piston knob, the pen turns into a funny rattle (the knob rattles) :). I definitely like the oversize more and more comfortable for my hand, but without the palladium nib it is just an unusual body material :), even if it is nice :).

Update 1:

Вот такая небольшая щель может увеличить линию (из-за подачи) почти в 2 раза, а если использовать жидкие и проникающие чернила на подобии De Atramentis Document Black или Noodlers Polar – просто страшно представить какой ширины получится линия на обычной бумаге:)

Such a small gap between tines can increase line width(due to the overflow) almost 2 times, and if use liquid and penetrating ink like De Atramentis Document Black or Noodlers Polar, it’s just scary to imagine how wide the line will turn out on ordinary office papers 🙂

Gary Leonard Oldman is an English actor and filmmaker.
