Hi! Today’s post is not about fountain pens, but a little related to them. Perhaps this topic will seem interesting to someone and they will also try their capabilities in this direction.

My three stamps story🙂

Everyone who bought something from me or asked for any services knows that I try to additionally attach some small gift to “sweeten” the parting with money :). In fact, of course not, just an ordinary human attitude to do a pleasant to person “on the other end of the line”. So, lately, there has been a lack of that very time to designed parcels beautifully. It’s not that I’m thinking about facsimile, it’s too early for me, but I wanted do something individual and at the same time universal, but really, annoying advertising on Instagram for making stamps served as a start for this :).

So after two days of watching pictures in Google on the “vintage stamps” theme and virtual selection of “interesting images”, I set to work on sketches and layouts :). After half a day of sketching, I chose several interesting images on my opinion and have already drawn them with fountain pen Pilot Myu. Since this is my first experience, I did not understand many of the nuances, but subconsciously understood that problems with the thinnest lines could arise. So I chose a fountain pen as my main sketching tool. Ideally, of course, draw with a thin pen at a scale of 1:1, or use F nib at a scale of 2:1, but I did it on subconsciously :).

У результаті якісь ідеї були запозичені, якісь прийшли самі, та нарешті вийшов матеріал для наступного етапу – формування дизайну штампу (штампів).

As a result, some ideas were borrowed, some came on their own, and as a result, the material for the next stage was already formed – for design of the stamp(s) itself.

And they are, actually my “improvised means” or my models, which were used for this project :).

Один з варіантів штампу я бачив як варіант підпису, але ще не бачив, як вона повинна виглядати остаточно, тому я взяв у руки перо з тушшю і почав вправлятися в написанні.

I saw one of the stamp as a signature design, but did not see how it should look completely, so I take a dip nib oblique J.B. Mallat #22 and Bombay India ink and began to practice writing.

З деякої кількості тренінгу я вибрав один варіант, який був мені найбільше до смаку і став пробувати різні варіанти його написання з використанням додаткових акцентів.

At the end of the practice time, I chose one version of design that I liked the most and began to try different elements and additional accents.

Незважаючи на те, що у виробників штампів не було особливих вимог до макетів, я вже намальовані образи спочатку оцифрував і перевів у векторний вигляд, а потім уже в програмі дизайну зайнявся макетуванням та підбором розмірів та форм.

Despite the fact that the stamp manufacturers did not have special requirements for layouts, I first digitized the already drawn images and converted them into a vector form, and then, in the PC program, I started layout and choice of sizes and shapes.

Далі був рутинний підбір візуального розміру та пробного друку на принтері, потім пошук виконавця. Незважаючи на велику кількість пропозицій розібратися в них не завжди просто, але після спілкування в директі рішення було прийнято:). І в результаті все пройшло навіть швидше, ніж я очікував.

Then there was the routine visual choice of the overall sizes, agreement with the customer (it is not easy to agree with yourself either :)) and test prints on the printer, and then the search for maker. Despite the abundance of suggestions, it is not always easy to understand them, but after communicating in the Direct, the decision was made :). And as a result, everything went even faster than I expected.

Звичайно “перший млинець”, як і належить вийшов трохи “комом”, але досвід отриманий, деякі нюанси зрозумілі та усвідомлені на майбутнє, результатом я задоволений:). Результат цікавий та нова іграшка отримана. Пір’яні ручки та матеріали як завжди були “на висоті” і дуже допомогли з реалізацією цього проекту. Усім дякую за увагу! Of course, the “first pancake”, as it should be, came out a little “lumpy”, but the experience was taken, some of the nuances are clear and understood for the future, I am satisfied with the first result :). The result is interesting and I have a new toys. The fountain pens and materials which I used were as always “on top” and helped a lot with the implementation of this project. За нюансами, що я відзначив для себе: а) вузьке та довге гірше ніж квадратне, кругле та компактне через різницю розподілу зусиль при штампуванні по центру та краю; б) якщо плануються світлі літери на темному тлі, то краще їх зробити більше і розсунути, тому що велика кількість фарби на темному тлі може розпливатися на папері і візуально зменшуватиме текст; в) дуже тонких ліній краще уникати, хоча текст читається, але крапку над “i” потрібно піднімати вище інакше вона зливатиметься в “l”.

By the nuances that I noted for myself: a) narrow and long are worse than square, round and compact due to the difference in the distribution of forces when stamping in the center and at the edge; b) if you are planning light letters on a dark background, then it is better to make them larger and move them apart, because an abundance of paint on a dark background can blur on paper and visually reduce the text; c) it is better to avoid very thin lines, although the text is readable, but the point above “i” must be raised higher, otherwise it will merge into “l”.
