(ground F to UEF modern) Platinum #3776 Century Black Diamond

Hello everybody! I have already reviewed this model in both Chartres Blue and Bourgogne, but since this model has rhodium plated nib and chromium accents I decided to make a personal post, and not add to the existing ones.

Привіт! Я вже робив огляди цієї моделі в кольорі Chartres Blue та в кольорі Bourgogne, але оскільки у даній моделі є родоване перо та хромовані акценти, я вирішив зробити окремий пост, а не додавати до існуючих.

Platinum #3776 Century Chartres Blue Transluscent (made in Japan) PNB-18000CR #51-0 SF

Форма даної ручки стандартна для Century – сигароподібна, матеріал корпусу напівпрозора смола чорно-попільного кольору, зазначена компанією як AS resin. Усі металеві акценти хромовані. Система заправки картриджно-конвертерна, свого власного формату Platinum. Ковпачок на різьбі, різьба 3х заходова, відкриття/закриття за 1.5 обертів.

The shape of this pen is standard for Century – cigar-shaped, the material of body is translucent black-ash-colored resin called by company as AS resin. All metal accents are chromium plated. The filling system is cartridge-converter, of their proprietary Platinum format. Cap on thread, 3-start thread, opening/closing in 1.5 turns.

Перо: золоте 14 каратне, стандартне для всієї лінійки Century і більшості ручок Nakaya – 26 типу, повністю покрите родієм. На перо нанесений орнамент блискавки, #3776, логотип P компанії Platinum, 14K, F, 585 і в хвостовій частині 26. Перо абсолютно жорстке, як цвях.

The nib: 14 carat gold, standard for all Century and most Nakaya lines – 26 type, fully rhodium plated. The nib has a lightning bolt ornament, #3776, P logo company, 14K, F, 585 and 26(type) in the tail section. The nib is absolutely rigid(hard) like a nail.

“З коробки” перо писало добре, з відчутним зворотним зв’язком, і з закритими очима я б відніс це перо до Сейлор:).

“From out of the box” the nib wrote well, with not characteristic perceptible feedback, and with closed eyes I would refer this nib to Sailor :).

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина в складеному вигляді – 140 мм, при знятому ковпачку – 120 мм. Діаметр корпусу – 13,2 мм, в місці хвата – 10,4 мм. Вага ручки (з встановленим картриджем) – 22,5 г, а без ковпачка – 11,9 г.

Overall dimensions of the tool: folded length – 140 mm, without cap – 120 mm. Barrel diameter – 13.2 mm, at the grip – 10.4 mm. Full weight (include filling cartridge) is 22.5 g, and without cap – 11.9 g.

Це ще один випадок, коли ручка на довгий період потрапила у стіл, причому настільки довгий, що система Slip and Seal не впоралася і картридж із Platinum Carbon Black повністю висох у ручці, тому довелося фідер очищувати механічно.

This is another forgotten in the desk for a long time, and so long that the Slip and Seal system did not safe and the Platinum Carbon Black cartridge was completely dry in the pen, so the feed had to be cleaned mechanically.

Але разом з обслуговуванням у мене ще було замовлення переточити перо в розмір UEF з максимально можливою тонкою лінією настроєну на рідкі червоніла Platinum Carbon Black.

But with total service, I have order to regrind this nib to UEF format with the thinnest possible line tuned to the flowing Platinum Carbon Black ink.

Після проведених робіт, ручка була протестована в роботі, і я можу сказати, що при всій моїй нелюбові до жорстких пер (зокрема Platinum), вийшов один із найкращих інструментів для скетчів з тонкою і насиченою лінією.

After work, the pen was tested and I can say that with all my dislike for hard nibs (including Platinum), this is one of the best tools for sketching with a thin but juicy line.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною з під пера стала 0,1 мм, так само як і оберненою стороною. Ширше лише перша точка контакту з папером, приблизно 0,15-0,2 мм. Плавний ковзання, хоча в деяких руках може відчуватися як гостре через дуже тонкий кінчик.

The width of the line by right side under the nib is being 0.1 mm, as well as the reverse side. Only the first point of contact with paper is wider, approximately 0.15-0.2mm. The slide is smooth, although it will feel sharp in some hands due to the very thin tip.

В решті решт: як я вже писав вище, це перо “мрія будь-якого скетчера чорнилами” – неймовірно тонка і соковита лінія. Загалом розміри ручки середні, відносно комфортні для більшості рук, але я хочу відзначити тендітність пластику – він дуже крихкий і боїться будь-яких падінь або інших різких впливів і легко може тріснути. Найбільш чутливе місце – це секція, в інтернеті досить часто можна знайти інформацію про тріщини у всій лінійці моделей з напівпрозорими матеріалами, тож при купівлі я би віддав перевагу класичному непрозорому дизайну:).

At the end: as I wrote above – this is nib “the dream of any ink’s sketcher” – an incredibly thin and juicy line. The rest of the pen is medium-sized, modern, comfortable for most in the hands, but I want to note the tenderness of this resin – it is very fragile and afraid of any drops or other sudden impacts and can easily crack. The most tender place is the section, and on the Internet you can often find information about cracks in the entire Century model line with translucent materials, so I preferred the usual nontransparent solid resin:).

Update 1:

До переточки пера я зробив тест “як писало перо з коробки” которий хочу надати разом с результатом переточки пера. Лінія на правому аркуші не світла, просто вона дуже тонка при тих самих чорнилах.

Before working with nib, I made a test “how the nib wrote out of the box” which I want to show along with the result of ground nib. On the right side sheet, the line is not light, it’s just very thin, the ink is the same.

Update 2:

В якості другого доповнення я намагався сфотографувати напівпрозорість матеріалу: вгорі – Translucent Black Diamond, внизу – класичний чорний з позолоченими акцентами.

As the second addon, I tried to photo the translucency of the material: at the top – Translucent Black Diamond(this pen), at the bottom – classic black with gold plated accents.
