Hey! Over the past year, I have already had many reviews of modern models of this brand, but nevertheless I will make one more personal post for the sake of a limited edition in an beautiful color.

Cross Townsend Lapis Lazuli w|18K nib (made in USA) 796-FA

Это достаточно крупная ручка характерной узнаваемой формы модельного ряда Townsend. Материал изготовления корпуса – латунь, покрытая лаком, с текстурой под названием “Лазурит”.  Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерная, своего, проприетарного формата Cross (зеленый конвертер без резьбы 8751 раннее 8930). Колпачок на трении, закрывается с большим усилием(5мм хода) и щелчком в конце.

This is a rather large pen of the characteristic recognizable shape of the Townsend models. The body is made of brass and lacquered by “lapis lazuli” texture. Filling system is cartridge/converter, proprietary Cross format (green converter without thread 8751 early 8930). Cap on friction, closes with effort (5mm) with click at the end.

Lapis Lazuli – Афганский лазурит — редкий минерал сложного состава; обычно содержится в щелочных изверженных и карбонатных породах. Обладает ярко-синим и густо-синим, порой фиолетово-синим или индигово-синим цветом, имеет равномерную текстуру, а в подавляющей массе камня на тёмно-синем фоне присутствует россыпь золотистого пирита.
На втулку секции нанесен уникальный номер(код), в данном случае 3206A0037.

Lapis Lazuli (Afghan lapis lazuli) – a rare mineral of complex composition; usually found in alkaline igneous and carbonate rocks. It has a bright blue and deep blue, sometimes violet-blue or indigo-blue color, has a uniform texture, and in the overwhelming mass of the stone on a dark blue background there is a placer of golden pyrite.
A unique number (code) 3206A0037 is applied to the section.

Перо: самое старшее перо семейства Townsend – золотое, 18 каратное, двухтоновое, 5го (5.5мм) размера производства Pelikan. Перо очень гладкое и абсолютно жесткое, полностью идентичное 14К показанному в ранних обзорах, данное перо является идентичным золотому перу от современной модели Pelikan Souveran M400. На перо нанесен фирменный ажурный узор, размерность пера M, имя компании CROSS, 18K, 750, ювелирное клеймо – Ste/A/T/C в овале и тот-же спиральный узор на 2 витка.

The nib: the highest nib in the Townsend family is an 18K solid gold two tone size 5 (5.5mm), made by Pelikan. The nib is very smooth and absolutely hard, completely identical to the 14K nib shown in earlier reviews, this nib is identical to the solid gold nib from the modern Pelikan Souveran M400 model. The nib has branded openwork pattern, tip size is M, company name CROSS, 18K, 750, jewelry mark – Ste/A/T/C in an oval and the same 2-turn spiral pattern.

Общие размеры инструмента: длина в сложенном виде – 149.2мм, со снятым колпачком – 131.3мм. Диаметр корпуса – 11мм, в месте хвата – 9.8мм. Полный вес ручки (с конвертером) – 44.6г, а без колпачка – 27.7г.

Overall dimensions of the tool: folded length – 149.2mm, without cap – 131.3mm. Body diameter – 11mm, at the grip – 9.8mm. The total weight of pen (with the converter) is 44.6g, and without cap it is 27.7g.

Минутки истории:
Интересно что с 30х годов, до 80х годов компания практически игнорировала рынок перьевых инструментов. Лишь только в 90х годах, когда перьевые ручки перешли из разряда повседневных пишущих инструментов в разряд аксессуаров и статуса делового человека, компания вновь вернулась к производству перьевых ручек. В 1993 году компания представила модель Cross Townsend названную в честь Alonzo Townsend Cross – изобретателя и старшего сына основателя компании. Ручка переняла все черты исторической модели “Signet”, но в существенно увеличенном размере соответствуя статусу ручки “Американских президентов”(“Pen of U. S. Presidents”). Minutes of history:
Interestingly, from the 1930s to the 1980s, the company practically ignored the produce of fountain pens. It was only in the 90s, when fountain pens moved from the category of everyday writing tools to the category of the status accessories of a businessman, that the company returned to the production of fountain pens. In 1993, the company introduced the Cross Townsend model, named after Alonzo Townsend Cross, the inventor and eldest son of the company’s founder. The pen has adopted all the features of the historical “Signet” model, but in a significantly increased size corresponding to the status of the pen of “American Presidents” (“Pen of U. S. Something else I would like to mention is the list of Townsend models kindly posted by FPNers MrThoth (see above)

У данной ручки было немного гнутое перо, вероятно после небольшого падения, и несимметричной распил напайки. При этом перо, традиционно для Pelikan, писало шире заявленной размерности. Так-же у конвертера очень туго ходил шток. После коррекции пера до размерности FM и полного обслуживания, ручка была протестирована.

This pen had a slightly bent nib, probably after slight fall, and an asymmetrical tip. At the same time, the nib, traditionally for Pelikan, wrote wider than the declared dimension. Also, the piston of converter was very tight move. After nib correcting to FM size and full service, the pen was tested.

Ширина линии до коррекции составляла 0.6-0.65мм прямой стороной и 0.2мм обратной. После коррекции ширина линии прямой стороной составляет 0.4-0.45мм  и 0.3мм обратной стороной. Скольжение гладкое, линия – сочная.

The line width before correction was 0.6-0.65 mm by the right side and 0.2 mm by the reverse side. After correction, the line width by the right side is 0.4-0.45mm and 0.3mm by the reverse side. The glide is smooth, the line is juicy.

В итоге: расцветка у Cross получилась не такая великолепная как у недавно показанного Must de Cartier “Trinity”, но тем не менее это тоже Lapis Lazuli и достаточно красивый. В остальном это типичный Cross Townsend с гладким золотым и красиво-двухтоновым пером Pelikan. Напомню что у Pelikan один из лучших современных пластиковых фидеров.

At the end: the coloring of this model is not as great as the recently shown Must de Cartier “Trinity”, but nevertheless it is Lapis Lazuli too and quite beautiful. In other hand that, it’s a typical Cross Townsend with a smooth solid gold and nice dual-tone Pelikan nib. Let me remind you that Pelikan has one of the best modern plastic feeds.

As a first addon, work on the correction of the tip, which, in addition to the asymmetry, was similar to the right oblique grind.

В качестве последнего апдейта традиционно тестовый эскиз и сегодня это один из самых романтичных шансонье – Шарль Азнавур.

As the last addon, it is traditionally a test sketch and today it is one of the most romantic chansonniers – Charles Aznavour.

Charles Aznavour (born Shahnour Vaghinag Aznavourian) was a Franco-Armenian singer, lyricist, actor and diplomat. Aznavour was known for his distinctive vibrato tenor voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. In a career as a composer, singer and songwriter, spanning over 70 years, he recorded more than 1,200 songs interpreted in 9 languages. Moreover, he wrote or co-wrote more than 1,000 songs for himself and others. Aznavour is regarded as one of the greatest songwriters in the history of music and an icon of 20th-century pop culture.
One of France’s most popular and enduring singers, he was dubbed France’s Frank Sinatra, while music critic Stephen Holden described Aznavour as a “French pop deity”. He was also arguably the most famous Armenian of his time. In 1998, Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN and users of Time Online from around the globe. He was recognized as the century’s outstanding performer, with nearly 18% of the total vote, edging out Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Jean Cocteau once said: “Before Aznavour despair was unpopular”.
Aznavour sang for presidents, popes and royalty, as well as at humanitarian events. In response to the 1988 Armenian earthquake, he founded the charitable organization Aznavour for Armenia along with his long-time friend impresario Levon Sayan. In 2008, he was granted Armenian citizenship, and was appointed ambassador of Armenia to Switzerland the following year, as well as Armenia’s permanent delegate to the United Nations at Geneva.
He started his last world tour in 2014. On 24 August 2017, Aznavour was awarded the 2,618th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Later that year, he and his sister were awarded the Raoul Wallenberg Award for sheltering Jews during World War II. His concert at the NHK Hall in Osaka, on 19 September 2018, would be his final performance.
Between 1974 and 2016, Charles Aznavour officially received around sixty gold and platinum records around the world, representing several million cumulative sales. He remains the best certified French singer in the United States and, in fact, one of the few French artists to hold a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. At the time of his death, according to his record company, the total sales of the artist’s recordings were over 180 million units (which implies the total distribution of the titles made in all the discs released in the world, both in his works and in those of other artists and multi-performer records).
