Hao! Once upon a time, when I was just starting to get interested to fountain pens and was not so tempted many pens, I was holding this model in my hands and I think it was didn’t comfortable pen like as Vanishing Point which is one of my favorite modern fountain pens for drawing. I also did a review at Decimo, so I decided to get acquainted with Fermo again and bought it late last year almost along with the steel Lamy 2K.

Вітання! Колись давно, коли я тільки почав цікавитись ручками та був ще не такій обізнаний, я тримав у руках цю модель і мені тоді здалась вона не дуже зручною. Але-ж Vanishing Point моя одна з улюбленіших сучасних ручок для малювання, на Decimo я теж робив огляд, то й вирішив ще раз ознайомитись з Fermo і купив наприкінці минулого року майже разом зі сталевою Lamy 2K.

Pilot Namiki Capless Fermo Diamond Silver (made in Japan) FCF-2MR-DS-F

Корпус за формою схожий на Vanishing Point але трохи відрізняється дрібними нюансами, можна сказати що він більше прямий за VP. Матеріал виготовлення – латунь покрита металевим сріблястим лаком з елементами зі нержавіючої сталі з родієвим покриттям. Система живлення – картріджно-конвертерна, свого пропрієтарного формату Pilot. Формат Capless тобто без ковпачкова, тому ковпачка нема, перо висувається за допомогою повороту ручки з торця (~за один оберт).

The body in shape is similar to Vanishing Point but slightly different in small nuances, I can say that it is more straight than VP. Main material is brass coated by metallic silver lacquer with rhodium-plated stainless steel furniture. Filling system is cartridge/converter, by its proprietary Pilot format. Capless format, ie without(less) cap, so there is no cap, the nib is retractive by turning the handle(knob) at the end (~ 1 full turn).

Від моделі Vanishing Point відрізняється трохи інакшим закінченням перед пером, яке трохи гостріше та мені здається грубіше за формою, інакшою формою кліпа з загином на кінці та ручкою висувного механізму. Доречи поєднуюче різблення також має інакший діаметр тож не можна поєднати частину від Vanishing Point з частиною від Fermo. Поєднуюча різьба також облаштована гумовим ущільнювальним кільцем.

It differs from the Vanishing Point model by a slightly different ending in front before nib, which is a bit sharper and seems rougher in shape, different shape of clip with a bend at the end and retractible nib knob. By the way, the connecting thread also has a different diameter from VP, so you can’t connect the part from Vanishing Point to the Fermo part. The connecting thread is also equipped by rubber sealing O-ring.

На відміну від гладкого корпусу ручка зроблена з поздовжніми канавками для кращої вхопливості. Є ще така цікава річ, про яку я вже згадував в попередніх оглядах: оскільки Con-50 знятий з виробництва, то модель комплектується конвертером Con-40. Так ось цікавість полягає у тому, що він дуже туго (щільно) насаджується в перовий вузол завдяки механізму висуву і потім через деякий час його достатньо важно витягнути з того вузла. З Con-50 та картриджем такого ніколи не буває. На нижній частині секції розташовані елементи брендування – Pilot FERMO Japan.

Unlike the sleek body, the nib knob is made with longitudinal grooves for better grip. There is another interesting thing, which I mentioned in previous reviews: since the Con-50 is discontinued, the model is equipped by Con-40 converter. So the interesting thing is that it is very tightly placed to the nib unit due to the retractible mechanism and then after a some time it is very hard to remove it from nib unit. This never happens with the Con-50 or cartridge. At the bottom part of section are branding elements – Pilot FERMO Japan.

Перо: таке ж саме як і у інших моделей Capless – дрібне, тоненьке, трохи пружне, 18 каратне, в данному випадку родоване. На перо нанесено тиснення у вигляді напису: PILOT, 18K750, <F>, 117 та ювелірне тавро Pilot-Namiki. 117 – дата виробництва пера – січень 2017 року, а F – розмірність кінчика. Матеріал досить м’який і через свої невеликі розміри не любить натиску – при надмірному натиску кінчики цілком можуть розійтися і не зійтись до свого початкового становища, що надалі потребуватиме виправлення та налаштування.

The nib: the same as in other Capless models – small, thin, slightly springly, 18 carat, in this case rhodium plated. On the nib is embossed: PILOT, 18K750, <F>, 117 and the jewelry mark Pilot-Namiki. 117 is the date of nib production – January 2017, and F is dimension of tip. The metal is quite soft and due to its small size does not like pressure – with excessive pressure, the halves of tips may disperse and not converge to its original position, which will require further correction and adjusting.

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина у складеному вигляді – 141.5мм, з висунутим пером – 149мм. Діаметр корпусу – 12мм, у місці хвату – 10.6мм. Повна вага ручки – 33.6г (з перовім вузлом та Con-40). Фірмовий ковпачок картриджа окремо важить 1.76г.

Overall dimensions of the tool: length in the folded form – 141.5 mm, with retractive nib – 149 mm. Diameter of the body – 12 mm, at the grip – 10.6 mm. Full weight with nib unit and Con-40 – 33.6g. The branded cartridge cap weighs 1.76 g separately.

Кілька років тому ходили чутки що з появою найстаршої моделі Caples LS, доречи якої у мене ще не було, модель Fermo була знята з виробництва, про що і я інколи писав. Але з’ясувалось що модель не знята і виробляється, на денний час представлена в 4х кольорах: Black, Dark Blue, Dark Green та Diamon Silver. Надзвичайно цікавим є той факт що перші моделі Pilot Capless мали схожий поворотний механізм висування пера у 1963 році, але який пізніше був змінений на кнопковий, я тільки в 2006 році з’явилась ця модель Fermo яка повернула механізм висування поворотним методом. Minutes of history:
A few years ago there were rumors that with the advent of the toppest model Caples LS, by the way, which I did not have yet, the Fermo model was discontinued, as I sometimes wrote. But it turned out that the model is produced currently and presented in 4 colors: Black, Dark Blue, Dark Green and Diamon Silver. Extremely interesting is the fact that the first Pilot Capless models had a similar rotary knob in 1963, but which was later changed to a push button, and it was only in 2006 that this Fermo model appeared which returned the rotary knob mechanism. Перед тестуванням я нічого не робив, ніяких профілактик та обслуговання.

Before testing, I did nothing, no service or adjusting.

Ширина ординарної лінії прямою стороною становить  – 0.4мм, а зворотною – 0.3мм але вдвічи прозоріша. Лінія достатньо волога та насичена, пізніше треба буде с цим щось зробити, бо некомфортно малювати.

The ordinary width by the right side is – 0.4 mm, and the reverse – 0.3mm but twice as transparent. The line is quite wet and saturated, later I will have to do something with it, because it is uncomfortable to draw.

Що наприкінці: по-перше мої старі яскраві враження від того що висувний механізм дуже сильно зміщує баланс до хвостової частини з бажанням перекидання ручки суттєво змінився. Баланс мені вже не здається таким неприйнятним. Можливо з картриджем та сталевим ковпачком буде гірше, але з Con-40 досить прийнятно, хоча у Vanishing Point баланс набагато кращій. Так що ця ручка достатньо комфортна та найсильніша її перевага це безшумне висування пера, що може бути у нагоді на нараді, щоб не дратувати кліками колег. Але, але … Форма кліпа без “хвоста” як у Vanishing Point мені здається більше комфортнішою, звуження перед пером як у Vanishing Point мені теж здається комфортнішим, та баланс про який я писав вище. Так що Fermo цікава ручка як до колекції, але Vanishing Point я рекомендую значно більше, майже must have із сучасних ручок.

At the end: first of all, my old vivid impression is that the sliding mechanism shifts balance very much to the tail with the desire to overturn pen over hand has changed significantly. The balance no longer seems so unacceptable to me. Maybe with cartridge and steel cap it will be worse, but with the Con-40 it is quite acceptable, although at Vanishing Point the balance is much better. So this pen is quite comfortable and its strongest pros is quiet extension of nib, which can be useful in a meeting, so as not to irritate by clicks to colleagues. But, but … The shape of the clip without “tail” as in Vanishing Point seems more comfortable to me, the narrowing in front of pen as in Vanishing Point also seems more comfortable, and the balance I wrote about above. So Fermo is an interesting pen as a collection, but I highly recommend Vanishing Point, almost a must have pen from modern FPs.
