Quick-change lathe holder “Multifix” Ab by Paulimot.de (made in Germany) 7051

На верстатах серії WM2x0 штатний різцетримач дуже і дуже незручний, і не тому що дозволяє встановити лише 2 різці одночасно, а, тому що з дуже великими обмеженнями дозволяє користуватись навіть різцями штатного розміру 12х12. Я так і не зміг скористатись розточним різцем що йде у комплекті, бо його треба підняти до рівня верхньої планки різцетримача. Потім, кожен різець треба виставляти на свою висоту і тримати підкладки персонально до кожного, бо кожного разу підбирати це цілковита мука.

On the machines of the WM2x0 series, the standard cutter holder is very, very inconvenient, and not because it allows you to install only 2 standard 12×12 cutters at the same time, because there are uses with very large limitations the kit cutters 12×12. I was never able to use the inside cutter that comes in the kit, because it has to be raised to the level of the upper bar of the cutter holder. Then, each cutter must be set to its height and the linings must be kept individually for each one, because it is a complete pain to search and find it every time.

Тож я пішов досліджувати ринок і першим що потрапило мені на очі був найпопулярніший китайський різцетримач 250-100 (на фото нижче модель 200, але вона така сама за дизайном просто більша).

So I went to research the market and the first thing that caught my eye was the most popular Chinese cutter holder 250-100 (pictured below is the 200 model, but it’s the same design, just bigger).

Але, по-перше, з’ясувалось що його конструкція потребує доробки, щоб бути встановленим на сучасне покоління WM2x0. На малій повздовжній існує підйом в 6мм та діаметром 17.8мм який треба вифрезерувати в основі різцетримача, або зрізати на малій повздовжній.

But, first of all, it turned out that its design needs to be modified in order to be installed on the modern WM2x0 generation. On the small longitudinal there is a rise of 6 mm and a diameter of 17.8 mm, which must be milled in the base of cutter holder, or cut off on the small longitudinal.

По друге ширина бази становить 54мм проти поверхні малої повздовжної яка становить 60мм, тож касету не можна буде опустити нижче горизонту що унеможливлює встановлення різців 14х14 без доробки, хоча місце для них в касеті є.

Secondly, the width of base model 100 is 54 mm against the small longitudinal plate, which is 60 mm, so the post holder cannot be lowered below the horizon, which makes it impossible to install 14×14 cutters without modification, although there is a place for them in the post holder.

Наступною моделлю йде 250-200, яка має розміри бази 66мм, та касети яки дозволяють встановити різці 16х16. Але з’ясувалось що якість їх не дуже висока в плані точності поверхонь, і навіть внутрішня поверхня касет не має рівного горизонту. Чесно кажучи я схилявся придбати 250-200, але доробка фрезеруванням поверхонь мене відштовхнула, чому я дуже радий, бо я пішов шукати далі. Я довго досліджував інтернет, дивився відео та описи і в решті решт натрапив на рішення Multifix в форматі Ab, яке, в теорії, мене повинно було задовольнити на 100%. По-перше, база мала отвір 18мм, який вже не треба було фрезерувати (у мене немає фрезерного верстата), по-друге, касети розраховані на різці 16х16, що дозволяє використовувати старі різці за необхідністю. Єдине що потребувало доробки це виточити нову шпильку, бо оригінальна шпилька виявилась занадто короткою. Але точити, то як раз справа токарного верстата))

The next model is the 250-200, which has a base size of 66mm, and post holder which allow installing a 16×16 cutter. But it turned out that their quality is not very high in terms of surface accuracy, and even the inner(under cutter) surface does not have an even horizon. To be honest, I was leaning towards getting a 250-200, but the additional milling the surfaces put me off, which I’m very glad, because I went looking next. I researched the Internet for a long time, watched videos and descriptions, and finally came across the Multifix solution in Ab format, which, in theory, should satisfy me 100%. Firstly, the base had an 18mm hole, which no needed to be milled (I don’t have a milling machine), secondly, the cassettes are designed for a 16×16 cutter, which allows to use old cutters if necessary. The only thing that needed finishing was to turn a new pin, because the original pin to be too short. But turning is precisely the task of the lathe))

Ще один негативний момент що до мого вчорашнього посту та китайського виробництва. Оригінальна шпилька трималась всього на 4-х вітках близько 6мм (різьба М10), та я навіть зустрічав відгук людини у кого її вирвало після чого він зрізав цей відлив на малій повздовжний, та нарізав різьбу М14 під більшу шпонку. Товщина малої повздовжної складає 17мм(включаючи відлив), то я вирішив зробити хвіст на 15мм. Центральну частину я зробив 18мм в діаметрі, щоб не було жодних люфтів. Закалювати її не став, бо по перше я не вмію, а по друге я придбав заготовку твердої сталі ~x40-60, тож гадаю мені вистачить цієї твердості.

One more negative point about my yesterday’s post and Chinese production. The original pin was kept on only 4 threads of about 6 mm (M10 thread), and I even read a post of man whose pin was pulled out, after which he cut off this rise into a small longitudinal, and cut an M14 thread for a larger pin. The thickness of the small longitudinal is 17 mm (including the rise), so I decided to make a tail of 15 mm. I made the central part 18 mm in diameter so that there would be no backlash. I didn’t start hardening it, because firstly, I don’t know how, and secondly, I bought a workpiece of hard steel ~St.40-60, so I think this hardness will be enough for me.

The lower part remained 17.8 mm.

На всяк випадок, всередині я залишив невеликий проміжок який суттєво не вплине на жорсткість.

Just in case, I left a small gap inside that will not significantly affect the stiffness.

Зі смішного, придбана гайка М10 мала косу поверхню, то ж довелось її теж трохи підрівняти))

Ironically, the purchased M10 nut had an oblique(not paralleled) surface, so I also had to level it a little))

Після монтування, налаштування я перевірив на повторюваність та співпадіння між касетами, у мене вийшла похибка не більше ніж 0.005мм, а у більшості взагалі відсутня.

After mounting and adjusting, I checked for repeatability and coincidence between the cassettes (post holders), I got an error of no more than 0.005mm, and most of them have none at all.

Висновки: сказати що я дуже задоволений, це не сказати нічого. По-перше, працювати стало набагато комфортніше, тому що не треба кожного разу налаштовувати різці при заміні з купою пластин. По-друге, я без жодних проблем налаштував свій розточний різець. По-третє, зняти, поставити касету, займає кілька секунд. Єдине що у наборі з цим різцетримачем немає накатки та тримача під відрізну пластину на відміну від 250-200 (100), але то не зрівняно з комфортом при роботі, та нема жодних проблем з точністю.

Conclusions: to say that I am very satisfied is an understatement. First, it has become much more comfortable to work, because don’t need to adjust the cutters every time when replacing with a bunch of plates. Second, I set up my inside cutter without any problems. Thirdly, it takes a few seconds to remove and insert post holders. The only thing is that the set with this cutter holder does not have knurling and cutting plate holder, unlike the 250-200 (100), but it is not comparable to the comfort of work, and there are no problems with accuracy.

Update:

Єдиний неприємний момент який мене спіткав так це дві вищербини на підошві різцетримача, то ж славетна німецька якість теж дає осічки, хоча це не повинно вплинути на подальшу роботу.

The only unpleasant moment that befell me was two burrs on the sole of the cutter holder, so, the famous and stable German quality is possible to makes misfires, although this should not affect further work.

Відписався продавцю, вони вибачилися, запевнили, що ці вибоїни не заважають працювати та запропонували замінити різцетримач. Я відмовився відправляти його в Німеччину, тому що, по-перше, це утратно, а по-друге, доведеться довго чекати.

I wrote back to the seller, they apologized, assured me that these burrs do not interfere with the work and offered to replace the cutter holder. I refused to send it to Germany because, firstly, it was expensive, and secondly, I will to wait a long time. So, the Germany support is a head higher than the Chinese one.

Update 06.10.2023:

За два місяці(!!) користування виявився один вагомий мінус цього тримача – він почав ржавіти. Звісно я зняв заводське змащення, але я регулярно раз в кілька днів роблю обслуговування та змащую весь верстат маслом у тому числі і цей мултіфікс. На мою думку це говорить про неякісне фарбове покриття, але виробник/продавець не вважає це за брак або недолік і не визнає це гарантійним випадком. К слову, касети яки вкриті такою самою фарбою та виготовлені зі Ст40 не ржавіють. Я трохи розчарований таким “не німецьким” підходом. Зараз розумію майстрів яки віддають перевагу брендованим речам по типу PEWE, мабуть кращее було придбати китайський клон за менші гроші та не бути таким розчаровуваним розуміючи що придбав китайську дешеву річ.

After two months(!!) of use, one significant minus of this quick-change holder turned out to be – it began to rust. Of course, I removed the factory lubrication, but I regularly do service every few days and lubricate all need parts of machine by oil, including this Multifix. In my opinion, this shows a low quality paint finish, but the manufacturer/seller does not consider this to be a defect and does not accept it as a warranty case. By the way, cassettes covered with the same paint and made of St40 do not rust. I’m a bit disappointed with this non-German approach. Now I understand the masters who prefer branded things like PEWE, it was probably better to buy a Chinese clone for less money and not be so disappointed realizing that I bought a cheap Chinese thing.
