Hey! Thanks to Denis once again, today I can show you the youngest (or cheapest) fountain pen model of the Swiss brand Caran d’Ache.

Вітаю! Завдячуючи Денису в черговий раз, сьогодні можу показати вам наймолодшого (чи найдешевшого) представника швейцарського бренду Caran d’Ache.

Caran d’Ache 849 Yelow-Green FLUO (Swiss made) model: 0840.230

Корпус даного письмового інструменту так само являє собою шестигранну форму з майже плоскими закінченнями. Матеріал виготовлення – алюміній покритий фарбою, у  данному випадку люмінісцентною, жовто-зеленого коліру. Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерна стандарту інтернешенел (international). Ковпачок на терті, закривається з кліком наприкінц.

The body of this tool is same  hexagonal shape with almost flat tops. Main material of body is a – paibted aluminum, in this case fluorescent, yellow-green color. Filling system is cartridge-converter by international standard. Cap on friction, closes with click at the end(Snap-on).

На наверші ковпачка розташувався сучасний логотип компанії, а на одній із граней назва моделі 849 CARAN d’ACHE та країна походження SWISS MADE, розташований у верхній частині ковпачка над кліпом.  Секція доволі примітивна, пластикова, із ключами під фідер та перо. Ковпачок має нелаковану втулку яка як направляюча встромляєтеся в корпус для кращої фіксації або розташування  із зворотного боку корпусу.

A modern company logo is placed on the caps top, and on one of the sides, the name of the model 849 CARAN d’ACHE with country of origin SWISS MADE, which placed upper the clip. The section is quite primitive, plastic, with keys for the feeder and feed mounts. The cap has an unvarnished sleeve that sticks into the body as a guide for better fixation or mount as posted.

Перо: сталеве з нержавіючої сталі, за формою схоже на сучасне Montblanc Wing або Rotring, доволі м’яке, але за моїм відчуттям зовсім без твердосплавної напайки. На пері розташовани лише логотип компанії та розмірність пера M.

The nib: stainless steel, in shape it is similar to the modern Montblanc Wing or Rotring nibs, rather soft, but on my opinion without any hard alloy tip. The nib has on surface only the company logo and nib size M.

Загальні розміри інструменту: довжина у складеному стані – 141.7 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 123.5 мм, одягненим на торець – 177.5 мм. Діаметр корпусу – 11.44мм (по ребрах) та 10.5 мм (за гранями), а в місці хвата – 7.8мм. Повна вага всього інструменту – 17.1 гр, а при знятому ковпачку – 9.45 гр.

Overall dimensions of the tools: folded length – 141.7 mm, without cap – 123.5 mm, when posted – 177.5 mm. The body diameter is 11.44 mm on edges and 10.5 mm on faces, at the grip – 7.8mm. The total weight pen  is 17.1 g, and without cap – 9.45 g.

Арнольд Швейцер (Arnold Schweitzer) заснував компанію Caran d’Ache у 1915 році, назвавши її на честь знаменитого французького карикатуриста епохи «Бель Епок», Еммануеля Пуаре, чиєї творчості він поклонявся. Пуаре підписував свої роботи псевдонімом Caran d’Ache, який і став назвою та логотипом торгової марки. Сам Еммануель Пуаре, онук офіцера наполеонівської армії, народився у Москві, звідки власне і народився цей псевдонім через знання російської. У перших роботах він прославляв епоху Наполеона, пізніше, ставши співробітником газети «Lundi du Figaro» у Парижі, Пуаре знаходить себе у жанрі карикатури, створюючи звані «історії без слів». Його іноді називають одним із родоначальників жанру коміксів. У свою чергу саме слово “олівець” походить з Туреччини, від слова “Кара Таш”, що означає чорний камінь – тобто графіт. Так ось поклади графіту в швейцарських горах і підприємливість Арнольда Швейцера дали поштовх організації мануфактури в Женеві (Geneve) у 1915 році, а вже бренд Caran d’Ache з’явився через 9 років (1924).

1929 став першою віхою в історії створення письмового приладдя Caran d’Ache – інженер компанії Карл Шмідт (Carl Schmid) розробив механічний олівець – Fixpencil, а в 30-х роках з’явився вже перший олівець Ecridor (так, той самий) із золота або срібла прикрашений вигравіруваним візерунками. У 1931 році компанія запустила у виробництво акварельні олівці, а в 1952 воскові. І лише у 1953 році компанія випускає першу кулькову ручку Caran d’Ache Ecridor, яка випускається і досі. А ось зовсім “тільки”, в 1970 році, була представлена ​​колекція Madison, в яку вперше увійшла перова ручка. Ну і далі “пішло-поїхало” як по маслу:). З 1994 року компанія Caran d`Ache розпочала випуск лімітованих ручок для поціновувачів розкоші. Minutes of history:

Arnold Schweitzer founded Caran d’Ache in 1915, named after the famous French Belle Epoque cartoonist, Emmanuel Poiret, whose work he worshiped. Poiret signed his works with the pseudonym Caran d’Ache, which became the name and logo of the trademark. Emmanuel Poiret himself, the grandson of an officer of the Napoleonic army, was born in Moscow from where this pseudonym actually appeared because of his knowledge of the Russian language. In his first works, he glorified the era of Napoleon, later, becoming an employee of the newspaper “Lundi du Figaro” in Paris, Poiret finds himself in the genre of caricature, creating the so-called “stories without words.” He is sometimes referred to as one of the pioneers of the comic book genre. In turn, the word “pencil” itself comes from Turkey, from the word “Kara Tash”, which means black stone – that is, graphite. So the deposits of graphite in the Swiss mountains and the entrepreneurial spirit of Arnold Schweitzer gave impetus to the organization of a manufacture in Geneva in 1915, and the Caran d’Ache brand appeared 9 years later (1924).

1929 was the first milestone in the history of the creation of Caran d’Ache writing tools – the company’s engineer Carl Schmidt developed a mechanical pencil – the Fixpencil, and in the 30s the first Ecridor pencil (yes, yes, that one) made of gold or silver appeared decorated with an engraved pattern. In 1931, the company launched watercolor pencils, and in 1952, wax pencils. It was only in 1953 that the company released the first Caran d’Ache Ecridor ballpoint pen, which is still being produced. But really quite “only”, in 1970, the Madison collection was presented, which first time included a fountain pen. Since 1994, Caran d’Ache has launched limited edition pens for connoisseurs of luxury. The first limited edition is the Geneva collection – 2000 fountain pens and 2000 ballpoint pens covered with 23K rose gold. In 2008, the Caran d’Ache 1010 pen, dedicated to the art of Swiss watchmakers, became the “Pen of the Year” according to the experts of the Pen World magazine.

The fountain pen of the 849 model became the successor of the most popular mechanical pencil of this brand, 849, which released in the far 1969. At their time, this pencil became popular due to its simple and durable design and multi-colored variants.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить – 0.55 мм, натиск збільшує лінію до 0.9 мм, зворотня сторона дає лінію шириною – 0.35 мм. Із коробки перо мало приємний відгук нагадующий грифель олфвця, але гадаю це від того що кінчик ніхто не полірує додатково. Подача волога ободвома сторонами.

The width of line by the right side is – 0.5mm, pressure increases the line width to 0.9 mm, and the reverse side gives line width is – 0.35 mm. Out of the box, the nib had a pleasant feedback, reminiscent to me the graphite pencil lead, but I think this is because no one polishes the tip additionally. Flow is wet by both sides.

В решті: попри написання огляду наступного дня після тесту мене всеодно не покидає відчуття “дешевого” виробу у всіх сенсах цього значення. Так, перо спочатку мені здалось приємно м’яким з приємним карандашним відгуком, але постійні пропуски на початку слів мене просто дратували. Після обстеження кінчика я з’ясував що одна половинка була трохи довшою, і на диво, кінчик мав бебіботтом. Після виправлення цих проблем перо стало писати як треба, але вкупі з вологою подачею мені не дуже сподобалось. Да, колір дійсно флуоресцентний і прям кидається у вічі, де б не лежала ця ручка, але до кольору я претензій не маю, хоча і не захоплююсь ним)). Тож Lamy Safari, на мій погляд, на рівень якісніша ручка у цьому сегменті, abo Pilot Metropolitan як що вам подобаются металеві.

At the end: despite writing this review the day after the test, I still have the feeling of a “cheap” product in every sense of this meaning. Yes, at first I found this nib pleasantly soft with a pleasant pencil feedback, but the constant skips at the beginning of words just annoyed me. After examining the tip, I found that one half was a little longer, and surprisingly, the tip had a baby bottom. After correcting these problems, the nib began to write as it should, but in combination with wet flow, I did not like it very much. Yes, the color is really fluorescent and catches to the eye wherever this pen lies, but I have no complaints about the color, although I am not fond of it)). So, Lamy Safari, in my opinion, is a level higher quality pen in this segment, or Pilot Metropolitan if you liked metal-body pens.

Finally – a sketch: Ukrainian writer and librettist of the first Ukrainian children’s operas Lyudmila Vasilevska-Berezina worked under the poetic literary name Dniprova Chaika.

Людмила Березіна, в шлюбі Василевська-Березіна літературний псевдонім Дніпрова Чайка (1861–1927) — українська письменниця другої половини ХІХ — початку ХХ століття. Дружина українського громадського діяча, письменника та публіциста Василевського Феофана.
Багато хто читали її вірші, легенди (у тому числі поезії у прозі) та казки, призначені для дітей. Але вона була не лише дитячою письменницею. Творча палітра письменниці досить широка, бо безпосередньо йшла поруч із життям української інтелігенції того часу. Це дуже плідна поетка, прозаїк, драматург, навіть авторка оперних лібрето, яка багато публікувалася й мала збірки.
Вона народилася на Миколаївщині, а життя і творчість, за власними свідченнями, були пов’язані з Херсонщиною. Якщо докладно читати біографію, то вражає, зі скількома українськими діячами вона спілкувалася. У тому числі це Микола Лисенко (для якого, зокрема, авторка писала дитячі опери – «Коза-дереза», «комічна опера» «Пан Коцький» та інші), театр корифеїв, родина Русових та інші. А кредом її життя можна назвати: «Смійтеся – плакать не буду», вона сама так казала, бо, попри творчі успіхи, мала репутацію «неблагонадійної», та перебувала під поліційним наглядом влади.

Lyudmila Berezina, in marriage Vasylevska-Berezina, literary pseudonym Dniprova Chaika (1861–1927) was a Ukrainian writer of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Wife of Ukrainian public figure, writer and publicist Feofan Vasylevsky.
Many Ukrainians read her poems, legends (including prose poetry) and fairy tales intended for children. But she was not only a children’s writer. The creative palette of the writer is quite wide, because she directly followed together with life of the Ukrainian intelligentsia of that time. She is a very prolific poet, novelist, playwright, even the author of opera librettos, who was widely published and had collections.
She was born in the Mykolaiv region, and her life and work, according to her own testimony, were connected with the Kherson region. If you read her biography in detail, you will be amazed at how many Ukrainian figures she communicated with. Among them are Mykola Lysenko (for whom, in particular, the author wrote children’s operas – “Koza-dereza”, “comic opera” “Mr. Kotskyi” and others), the theater of luminaries, the Rusovs family and others. And the motto of her life can be called: “Laugh – I won’t cry”, she said so herself, because, despite her creative successes, she had a reputation as “unreliable”, and was under the police supervision of the authorities.

I’m continuing to test the Caran d’Ache Chromatics inks, and today it’s Vibrant Green.

Це чорнило не таке приємне як Infra Red та Cosmic Black, хоча за властивостями воно краще за Hypnotic Turquoise, воно просто ординарно-звичайне. Тобто воно не сухе, але і без додаткових змащувальних здібностей, не має цікавого шейдінгу, саме звичайне чорнило. Колір також доволі звичайний та нескладний.

This ink is not as pleasant as Infra Red and Cosmic Black, although it is better than Hypnotic Turquoise in terms of properties, it is just usual ordinary ink. That is, it is not dry, but also without additional lubricating abilities, does not have interesting shading, just ordinary ink. The color is also quite ordinary and simple.
