Otto Hutt Flavored inks (handmade in Germany)

Не вважаю себе людиною яка здатна адекватно протестувати та оцінити чорнила, але спробую показати як вони виглядають із точки зору обивателя. Я не прихильник розплескувати чорнило на папір, а потім розмазувати його шваброю тож все що я можу запропонувати це подивитись як чорнило буде виглядати в малюнку тонким пером, та приклади написання тексту.

I don’t consider myself a person who is able to adequately test and evaluate inks, but I will try to show how they look from the perspective of the layman. I am not a fan of splashing ink on paper and then smearing it by swabs, so all I can suggest is to see how the ink will look in shading sketching with fine nib, and some examples of writing text.

1. Black Night / Dark Chocolate

Зазвичай коли кажуть про чорну ніч, то літературно мають на увазі ніч таку чорну в яку нічого не видно, але звісно технічно це не чорна дірка і будь-яка сама темна ніч не може бути абсолютно чорною. Це як раз той самий випадок:)). Тобто в цьому випадку “чорна ніч” це швидше темно-сірі сутінки.

Usually when some talk about a black night, they are literary referring to a night so black that nothing can be seen, but of course technically it is not a black hole and any very dark night cannot be absolutely black. This is exactly the same case :)). So in this case, a “Black night” is more like a dark night or rather dark gray twilight.

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. Це чорнило мені нагадало Robert Oster Graphite, тобто такий собі сірий із легким відтінком зеленого. Із приємного чорнило має шейдінг, тобто коли штрихи перетинають чорнило змінює тон на більш темний. Стосовно запаху, у мене немає великого досвіду із чорнилами з ароматом, але запах на “чорний шоколад” зовсім не схожий, нагадує щось солодке, типу сиропу коріння солодки з дитинства:)). При малюванні запах не відчувався, тільки як що нюхати безпосередньо із флакона або саме перо ручки. Але чорнила мають непогану текучість та водночас не пробивають папір і не розмочують його. Чорнила не сухі, але і не олійнясті, тобто за характеристиками середні.

To understand the shades in the sketch, I used F nib in Pilot Myu-701 fountain pen, but then I made sure by adding the text with B nib in Pilot Custom³ Urushi. This ink reminded me of Robert Oster Graphite, that is, a kind of gray with a slight green tint. The ink has a pleasant shading, that is, when the strokes intersect, the ink changes tone to a darker one. Regarding the flavor, I don’t have much experience with scented inks, but on smell of “dark chocolate” is not at all similar, it reminds me of something sweet, like licorice root syrup from childhood :)). When sketching, I didn’t feel the smell, only if sniff directly from the sample or the fountain pen nib itself. But the ink has good fluidity and at the same time does not bleed the paper or soak it. The ink is not dry, but not oily either, so it has average characteristics.

2. Gypsophilia / Bamboo

Наступний колір, але я гадки не маю що означає Гіпсофілія і не хочу навіть шукати що це таке, бо будь-яка філія мене занадто лякає.

The next color, but I have no idea what Gypsophila means, and I don’t want to look it up because my mind scares too much about any ‘philias”.

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав теж саме тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. За коліром це чорнило схоже на Pelikan Edelstein Olivine із легким присмаком Aventurine, але за характеристиками це сухе та водянисте чорнило, тож привабить тих хто хоче підсилити відчуття фід фідбеку пер Sailor та Aurora. Мені не дуже сподобалось тому що колір не виразний, а кількість перехресних штрихів розмочують папір. Відносно запаху, я на жаль, не знаю який запах у живого бамбука, але це чорнило пахне як ароматизовані індійські палички “Масала” що запалюють в маленьких індійських крамницях по всьому світу. Я не знаю що придає їм такого характерного запаху, чи то амбра, чи то сандал, чи то мірра, але його ні з чим не переплутаєш. Запах сильніший ніж у попередніх Black Night і його відчуваєш одразу як починаєш писати/малювати.

To understand the shades in the sketch, I used same F nib in Pilot Myu-701 fountain pen, but then I made sure by adding the text with B nib in Pilot Custom³ Urushi. In color, this ink is similar to Pelikan Edelstein Olivine with a slight hint of Aventurine, but in terms of characteristics, it is a dry and watery ink, so it will appeal to those who want to enhance the feeling of feedback from Sailor and Aurora nibs. I didn’t really like this ink because the color is not expressive, and the number of cross strokes soaks the paper. Regarding the flavor, unfortunately, I don’t know what kind of smell live bamboo has, but this ink smells like flavored Indian “Masala” sticks that are lit in small Indian shops all over the world. I don’t know what gives them such a characteristic smell, whether it’s ambra, sandal, or myrrh, but you can’t confuse it with anything. The flavor is stronger than in the previous Black Night and can feels it as soon as start writing/drawing.

3. Pink Rosette / Wildcherry

Наступний колір “вишня”, але як що чесно кажучи вишню мені не нагадує ні коліром, ні запахом. Точніше на запах схоже на вишневий пиріг з МакДональдса або цукерку із вишневим джемом всередині, тобто хто пробував страви зі справжньої вишні чи домашнє варення той мене зрозуміє:)).

The next color is “cherry”, but to be honest, it doesn’t remind me of cherries either in color or flavor. More precisely, the smell is similar to a cherry pie from McDonald’s or a candy with cherry jam inside, so anyone who has tried dishes made with true cherries or homemade jam will understand me :)).

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав теж саме тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. За характеристиками чорнило більш насичене і не таке сухе, але разом із тим більше схильне до просочування, тож для власників вологих пер треба бути обережним із папером. Запах менш виразний ніж у Gypsophilia, але сильніший за Black Night, наступного дня ще відчутний від записів на папері. Прийшло мені на думку що цей солодкий запах нагадує консервовану вишню для коктейлів.:))

The ink is more saturated and not so dry, but at the same time more prone to bleeding, so owners of wet or flex nibs need to be careful with the paper (feathering also possible). The smell is less pronounced than Gypsophilia, but stronger than Black Night, on the next day it is still noticeable from the notes on paper. It occurred to me that this sweet flavor resembles canned cherries for cocktails. :))

4. Mist Cedar

Наступний колір “примарний кедр”, то те що він “примарний” жодних зауважень, але зовсім не впевнений що до “кедру”:)). Це чорнило мені нагадало олівці із дитинства, не знаю навіщо їх робити такими жорсткими, за відчуттям як 2Н-3Н, як ти не намагаешя ним щось намалювати всеодно виходить ледь-ледь помітним. Я пам’ятаю це так сильно дратувало, але якісні м’які олівці були на вагу “золота”.

The next color is “Mist cedar”, so, that it is “mist” I don’t argue, but I’m not sure again about the “cedar” :)). This ink reminded me of pencils from childhood (school time), I don’t know why they make them so hard, it feels like 2H-3H, no matter how hard you try to press when writes and draws with it, it still comes out barely noticeable. I remember it being so annoying, but quality soft pencils were almost impossible to find.

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав теж саме тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. За характеристиками це чорнило більш схоже на попередні Pink Rosette, але воно зовсім не насичене, майже як твердий олівець. Кілька шарів кольору по одному місцю дають змогу перетворити лінію із 3Н до 2В. Запах ледь помітний, майже як у Dark Night, але зовсім не нагадує мені кедр, скоріше бабусіни ліки. От прийджаєш до бабусі і у неї стоїть такий присмак травяних ліків у повітрі(полинь?), от це щось подібне. При обільній подачи це чорнило такохж скильно до просочування та лохматіння, тож власникам вологих пер треба бути обережними. Але якщо вам потрібні світлі чорнила, як твердий олівець, то це саме вони.

In terms of properties, this ink is more similar to the previous Pink Rosette, but it is much faded, almost like a hard pencil. Several layers on one place allow to transform the line from 3H to 2B. The flavor is barely noticeable, almost like Dark Night(don’t feels when drew), but it does not remind me of cedar at all, more like grandma’s medicine. When I visited to my grandmas in my childhood I feels this smell of herbal medicine in the air (wormwood?), it’s something like that. With wet flow, this ink is also prone to bleeding and feathering on usual not HQ paper, so owners of wet nibs need to be careful. But if you need light ink like a hard pencil, these are it.

5. Luna Eclipse / Young Rose

Вам могло здатись що у мене проблеми із обанянням, бо жоден із попередніх запахів у мене не співпадає із виробником, але ж ні, наступний колір “місячне затемнення”, і ось він дійсно для мене відчуваєтся як пахнуть троянди, майже як варення з пелюсток троянд :)).

You might think I have a problem with sense of smell, because none of the previous scents no match with manufacturer names, but no, this ink is “lunar eclipse”, and it really smells like roses to me, almost like rose petal jam :)).

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав теж саме тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. За характеристиками це чорнило схоже на Pink Rosette, воно насичене, але нажаль шейдінг напроч відсутний, кількість шарів ніяк не впливає на відтінок і лише прикро розмочує папір. Для досягнення різних тонів можна використовувати лише шільність штрихів. Запах не сильний і відчуваєтся лише коли підносиш перо до носу.

This ink is similar in characteristics to Pink Rosette, it is saturated ink, but unfortunately there is no shading at all, the number of layers does not affect to toning and only annoyingly soaks the paper. To achieve different tones, possible only use the densities of the strokes. The flavor is not strong and is felt only when bring the nib to nose.

6. Twilight / Blackberry

Ну ось, нарешті, ми і підібрались до останього чорнила із мого набора і дивним чином виявилось що це найкраще чорнило із цього набору(на мій погляд), хоча на запах це чергове не потрапляння у ціль)).

Well, finally, we got to the last ink from my set and strangely enough it turned out to be the best ink from this set(on my opinion), although by the smell it was another miss)).

Для розуміння відтінків у скетчі я використав теж саме тонке перо F в ручці Pilot Myu-701, але потім переконався додавши текст широким пером B у ручці Pilot Custom³ Urushi. За характеристиками це чорнило саме таке яким воно повинно бути: не сухе і не вологе, доволі яскраве із помірним шейдінгом в кілька шарів, майже без просочування та волохатості, та ідеально тече у тонкому пері. Запах не яскравий, але відчутний як що підносити перо до носу, мені нагадує якийсь жіночий парфюм яким користувалась моя мама в моєму дитинстві, але я не знаю назви. Колір приємний та повністю відповідає ожині. Дуже добре що краще чорнило випадково залишилось на останок:))

According to the characteristics, this ink is exactly what it should be: not dry and not wet, quite saturated with ,edium shading in several layers, almost without bleeding and feathering, and with perfect flows in a thin nib. The flavor is not strong, and it is noticeable when you bring the nib to nose, it reminds me of some women’s perfume that my mom used in my childhood, but I don’t know their name. The color is pleasant and completely matches the blackberry. It’s great that the better ink accidentally remained at the end:))
