A not very common model from the old minor Italian brand, but no less interesting for that reason.

Zenith Extra Laminato Oro 750 (made in Italy) ~1950

Дизайн ручки має риси Streamline дизайну 50х років з заокругленими кінцями, але конструкцію більш раннього періоду. Корпус виготовлен із ебоніту та має золотий оверлей із 18К золота із тисненням у вигляді шевронів. Система заправки — кнопкова. Ковпачок на різьблені в 1 нитку, закриття/відкриття за 2.5 обертів.

The pen design hhas the Streamline style of the 50s with rounded ends, but the construction of an earlier period. The body is made of ebonite and has a gold overlay of 18K rolled gold with chevrons pattern. The filling system is button-filler. The cap on standard thread with 1-start, closing/opening in 2.5 turns.

At the bottom part of cap are: the triangular logo of the Montegrappa brand of that time, which reference to manufacturer of this pen, next ZENITH EXTRA LAMINATO ORO 750.

The nib: a solid gold, small, almost like a parker 51 and soft, The nib is marked: Zenith, Extra, Oro, 585 and 1 (probably nib dimension).

Overall pen dimensions: folded length is – 113 mm, without cap – 102 mm. The diameter of the body is – 9.45 mm, at the grip – 7.5 mm. The weight of folded tool is – 14.5 g, without cap – 9,3 g .

Моделі які замовляв Джузеппе Морандіно нагадували найпопулярніші моделі свого часу із накладками, тобто спочатку це були ручкі схожі на Waterman 42, а піздніше це були Kosca, Skyline та Parker 51. Вони впізнавані своїми складними накладками з дивовижними та витонченими візерунками. Майже всі їхні ручки покриті 18-каратним золотом, що забезпечує надзвичайно витончену ручну роботу. Усі накладки виготовлялися виключно вручну. Точна дати припинення існування бренду невідома, але остання перереєстрація бренду відбулась у 1956 році (як SAS di Giuseppe Morandino) з останнімі рахунками продажу за 1963 рік.

Minutes of history:
Although, in many cases with most minor Italian brands, there is relatively little information about Zenith, the company’s origins are at least fairly clear: the brand’s activities are linked to the activities of Giuseppe Morandino, owner of a stationery shop in Milan (at Via Antonio Kramer 22) and wholesaler of writing instruments, who registered it in 1929. In those days, it was quite popular for weighted stationery brands, which not having their own production, to order batches of writting acesories from more known manufacturers. Quite often, Giuseppe Morandino collaborated with the Montegrappa brand, and these are probably the highest quality pens that can be found under the Zenith brand. The models that Giuseppe Morandino ordered resembled the most popular models of his time, that is, at beginning they were similar to the Waterman 42, and later they were the Kosca, Skyline and Parker 51. They are recognizable by their complex overlay with amazing and sophisticated patterns. Almost all of their fountain pens are covered in 18-carat rolled gold with an extremely refined handwork. All the overlays were made exclusively by hand. The exact date of the brand’s demise is unknown, but the last re-registration of the brand took place in 1956 (as SAS di Giuseppe Morandino) with the last sales invoices in 1963.

Ця ручка була мені надана на реставрацію та налаштування. Сак був скам’янілий, пружина іржава а перо розюстоване, але зовнішній вигляд був гарний. Після всіх робіт ручка була протестована.

This pen was given to me for restoration and adjustment. The sac was petrified, the press-bar was rusty as a button, and the nib was unaligned, but the appearance was very well. After all the work, the pen was tested.

Товщина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,4 мм, натиск збільшує цю лінію лише до 0,7 мм. Зворотний бік пише шириною 0,3 мм.

Ordinary line width by right side is 0.4 mm; pressure increases this line only to 0.7 mm. The reverse side writes with width about 0.3 mm.

В решті: це доволі маленький письмовий інструмент із маленьким пером, але перо доволі м’яке та приємне а золотий корпус може приваблювати багатьох, при чоме це не сучасна гальванічна позолота, а накатка.

At the end: It’s a fairly small writing tool with a small nib, but the nib is quite soft and pleasant, and the gold body may appeal to many, although it’s not modern electroplating, this is rolled gold.

Update 1:

Збільшене фото пера. Трохи дивним виглядає імітація під Parker 51 схованого пера, гадаю це суто італійський винахід свого часу, бо схожа конструкція також використовувалась і Омасом в 361/s моделі.

Just a magnify photo of nib. The imitation of the hooded nib like Parker 51 looks a little strange, it is a purely Italian invention of its time, because a similar design was also used by Omas in the 361/s model also.
