Hello friends! When servicing or repairing fountain pens, from time to time there is a need for spare parts that are not always available for purchase. And sometimes they are needed to make sure they work properly, or sometimes to create other parts so as not to damage the original good ones. So from time to time I needed in reverse engineering, which is what I will share in this topic.

Montblanc 146/LeGrand piston mechanism

Нещодавно обслуговував Montblanc LeGrand UNISEF і оскільки повністю його розібрав, то вирішив разом зняти заміри та спробувати відтворити поршневий механізм. З’ясувалось що головна складність полягала у тому що конструкція із цілком метричної країни (Німеччина), із невідомих мені причин, містила дюймове різблення, а саме різблення ручки поршня. Друга складність полягала у тому що задля зменшення ваги втулки в деяких місцях стінки складають лише 0.5 мм, що для пластику не ефективно, тож я трохи це підкорегував.

Recently, I serviced a Montblanc LeGrand UNISEF and because I had completely disassembled it, I decided to take measurements and try to recreate the piston mechanism. It turned out that the main difficulty was that the design from a completely metric country (Germany), for unknown to me reasons, contained inch threads, namely the piston knob thread. The second difficulty was that in order to reduce the weight of the metal bushing, in some places the walls are only 0.5 mm thick, which is not effective for plastic, so I adjusted it a little.

Montblanc 146/LeGrand broken rod remover

Оскільки я відтворил поршневий механізм, то вирішив на додаток зробити механізм зняття зламаного штока, який на ласку був опублікований Френсісом(fountainbel) на ФПН. У мене як раз знайшлась ручка зі зламаним штоком із раніше обслугованої ручки. Подробиці конструкції, принципу та розміри описані ним у власному дописі.

Because I recreated the piston mechanism before, I decided to additionally make a broken rod removing tool, which was kindly published by Francis((fountainbel) on FPN. I just happened to find own broken knob from a one of previously serviced pen’s work. Details of the design, principle, and dimensions are described by him in his own post.

Звісно шток можна скоротити для більш гармонійної форми, я за основу взяв тіло поршня із попереднього відтворення, тільки прибрав ребра.

Of course, the rod bushing can be shortened for a more harmonious design, I just took the piston body from the previous reproduction as a basis, just removing the ribs for prototype.

Senator President nib collar and piston outer diameter expander

Оскільки оригінальний коллар мав тріщину та головка поршня втратила зовнішній розмір, довелось зробити аналог та розширювач діаметру. Підробніше описано у пості Senator President.

Because the original collar had a crack and the piston head had lost its external diameter, I had to make an analog and piston diameter expander. More details are described in the Senator President post.

Pelikan Classic M100-M250 Piston-fill mechanism

Якось довелось лагодити Pelikan M150 із проблемою крапання (не тримання) чорнил з пера, для цього довелось повністю розібрати ручку, тож вирішив разом створити копію на всяк випадок, як що буде потрібно щось замінити.

I once had to repair Pelikan M150 with a problem ink leaking, dripping (not holding) ink from the nib. To fixing this, I had to completely disassemble the pen, so I decided to create a copy tof piston mechanism just in case something needed to be replaced.
