PS: На FPN також є думка що Schmidt не займається виробництвом своїх пер, а тільки займається доведенням пер вироблених Bock та JoWo, але під власним маркуванням.

Я ось ще про що подумав: разом з бажанням знати виробника пера часто виникає бажання розуміти розмірність градації пер того чи іншого бренду, хоча б відносно (а не в абсолюті). Щоб мати приблизну уяву наводжу орієнтовну таблицю розмірностей пер яку створив Mike Masayama начебто з допомогою мікрометра (оригінал розташований на сайті nibs.com). Заміри не зовсім збігаються з моїм власним досвідом, тим паче що невідомо яким чорнилом проводились тести та на якому папері, чи це просто точка дотику пера до паперу, але, на мій погляд, це сама вдала таблиця яку я бачив.

Here’s something else I thought about: along with the desire to know the nib manufacturer, there is often a desire to understand the dimension of tip to the each brand, at least relatively (and not in absolute terms). In order to have an approximate idea, I repost an table of dimensions of nibs created by Mike Masayama, as it were, with the help of a micrometer (the original is located on the website nibs.com). The measurements not for all tip exactly match my own experience, especially since it is not known what ink use for tests and what paper use, or it is simply the point of contact of the nib to the paper, but, in my opinion, this is the most correct and full table which I have seen.

Доволі часто останнім часом зустрічаю питання у суспільстві чи можна якісь пера замінити на інші, чи як візуально з’ясувати свій розмір пера? Випадково натрапивши на сайт Bock, вирішив на основі їх якісних фотографій зробити порівняльну табличку.  (Популярне перо #6 JoWo за розмірами майже співпадає із пером Bock #6(250), відмінності лише в дрібницях:))

Lately, quite often, I have seen questions in community, whether it is possible to change some nibs with others, or how to visually got the size of own nib? Accidentally, coming to the official Bock site, I decided to make a comparison table based on their high-quality photos. (The popular #6 JoWo nib is almost the same size as the Bock #6 (250), the differences are hidden in trivia:))

Any fountain pen consists of three main parts: body, nib and feed. The development of technologies today has come to the point where companies producing nibs have combined nibs with feed into one construction and given it the name “Nib Unit”, which consists of collar, nib and feed. Collar. as a rule, it has a thread for mounting in section, but brands which make own nibs often make this “nib unit” non-removable, that is, only for internal assembly technologies. But there are many manufacturers of modern pens that create only bodies, order Nib Units from well-known nib manufacturers such as Bock, JoWo, and Schmidt. Sometimes, in addition to making their own nib mask, they can also order their own collar design with sizes and threads that are not compatible with other brands with same size of nib but also can have differences in length, or even shoulders width. So, for example, the standard size 5 Bock is called type 180, but to make things a bit more complicated they produce a shorter size 5 nib which is named type 060 and is used for example most Kaweco’s pens. In addition, there is the Type 076, which, although it has the same visual length(out from the collar) as the Type 180, is used by Visconti for example for many of their models. So although collars of types 180, 060 and 076 have identical designs, but they may not be compatible with each other due to different cap inside designs.

У мене ніколи не було ручок на основі 6х перових вузлів Schmidt, тому коли до мене потрапив такий перовий вузол на переточування, я вирішив зробити порівняльний апдейт між сучасними перовими вузлами незалежних виробників 6 розміру. Тож, зліва направо: JoWo #6 clear NU (EF), Bock 250 NU (M) та Schmidt FH452 NU (M).

I’ve never had a pen based on #6 Schmidt nib unit, so when I came this nib for grinding order, I decided to do a comparison photo to community between independent #6 nibs makers. So, from left to right: JoWo #6 clear NU (EF), Bock 250 NU (M) and Schmidt FH452 NU (M).

PS: In the net, there were once rumors that Schmidt does not make own nibs, and orders them from Bock and JoWo, but makes own collars with feed and post-processed these nibs. On the photo shows that they(Scmidt) are not identical to Bock or JoWo ans is the smallest among all these 6 nibs. I haven’t more precise info.

PS: Деякий час тому, в мережі ходили чутки, що Schmidt не виготовляє власних пер, а замовляє їх у Bock та JoWo, виготовляє лише фідери та стакани до них та займається пост-обробкою цих пер. На фото видно, що пера (Scmidt) не ідентичні до Bock та JoWo і є найменшими серед них. Більш точної інформації наразі не маю.

Із деякою періодичністю на різних форумах зустрічаються питання “як одне перо порівнюється із іншим за розмірами”, частіше це пов’язано із бажання замінити зламане перо на добре, але те що є в наявності чи може бути придбано. Загальна класифікація, яка часто зустрічається по типу пер #5, #6, #8, як правило працює лише для виробників JoWo та Bock, бо саме вони запровадили та використовують цю класифікацію

То ж, за багато років створення оглядів на різні перови ручки у мене скопичилось доволі багато фотографій пер і саме приємне що майже із першого дня зйомки я використовую той самий п`єдестал під пера із розмірами 26.75*14.36 mm. Це дозволяє відносно точно порівняти розміри всіх пер на одному кадрі. Звісно я не став брати всі пера, та змішувати вінтажні із сучасними, а вибрав пера найбільш розповсюджених ручок на мій погляд. В межах одного бренда можуть бути різні моделі ручок які використовують різні пера: сталеві, золоті чи паладієві, із різними візерунками, але одного такого ж розміру, то я намагався взяти лише одне перо для порівняння випадково.

Well, over the years of making fountain pen’s reviews, I have collected quite a lot of photos of nibs, and the most pleasant thing is that almost from the first day of shooting I have been using the same nib’s pedestal with dimensions of 26.75*14.36 mm. This allows me to relatively accurately compare the sizes of all nibs in one frame. Of course, I did not take all my nibs, and mix vintage with modern ones, but chose the nibs of the most common modern fountain pens on my opinion with some exclusions. Within one brand there can be different models of fp that can use different nibs: stainless steel, solid gold or palladium, with different patterns, but the same size, so I tried to take only one nib for comparison line by chance.

То щож в решті: чи можна міняти пера між брендовими ручками? Це складне питання, але відповіси на нього можна так: як що у вас достатньо досвіду праці із перами, то можна міняти пера схожих розмірів, але як що у вас недостатньо досвіду, то велика верогідність того що ручка не стане писати добре. Тому що окрім загальних розмірів пер, є ще діаметри фідера і навіть кривизна своду впливає на роботу системи коллар-фідер-перо, які треба враховувати при налаштуваннях.

So what at the end: can you change differ nibs between differ branded pens? This is a difficult question, but I can answer it this way: if you have enough experience working with fountain pens and nibs, then yes, you can change nibs with similar sizes, but if you don’t have enough experience, then there is a high probability that modified pen will not write well. Because in addition to the general length of the nibs, there are also feed diameters and even the curvature of the arch that affect to the right work system collar-feed-nib, which must be taken into account when tuning.
