Hi everybody! After creating a body to Pilot Namiki Falcon/Elabo, I received a question/request to create a body to Pilot Custom 743 of the same type. Of course, all the dimensions are completely different, from threads to section dimension, so I had to take measurements again and create a new technical map.

Вітаю! Після створення корпусу до Pilot Namiki Falcon/Elabo до мене надійшло питання/запит на створення корпусу до Pilot Custom 743 такого ж типу. Звісно що всі розміри геть інші, від різьблень до розмірів секції, то прийшлось наново зняти мірки та створити нову технічну карту.

Форма майже така сама як і до Pilot Falcon, проста, класична, циліндрична, пряма зі злегка звужуючимся корпусом, пласкими закінченнями та виконана з вінтажного ебоніту темно коричневого кольору.  Єдине що на відміну від ковпачка Pilot Falcon, цей ковпачок я зробив насуваючимся (внахльост) на корпус, секція використовується оригінальна Pilot. Ковпачок на різьблені, різблення двозахідне, закриття/відкриття за 1.5 оберти.

The shape is almost the same as for Pilot Falcon, simple, classic, cylindrical, straight with slightly tapering body, flat tops and made from vintage dark brown ebonite. The only thing is that unlike the Pilot Falcon cap, I made this cap covered on part of body (overchase), the section used is the original Pilot. The section is original and unchanged, with original proprietary filling system. The cap on thread with two-start thread, close/open in 1.5 turns.

На жаль у мене нема якісних фотографій корпусу до лакування, але залишились фотографії прототипа, який я зробив перед замовленням та сфотографував на смартфон, щоб показати замовнику.

Unfortunately, I don’t have high-quality photos this body before lacquering, but I have photos of the prototype that I shot on smartphone before making order to show the customer.

А ось так виглядає з надягнутим на торець ковпачком, хоча лаковану версію я би не радив так використовувати.

And this is how it looks when cap posted, although I wouldn’t recommend using that on lacquered body.

Спочатку я хотів використати німецький ебоніт, але на диво він не витримав навантаження. Оскільки це у мене був останній стрижень, то в решті, за домовленістю з замовником, я створив корпус з напіввінтажного ебоніту темно-коричневого кольору, який виявився міцнішим.

At first I wanted to use German ebonite, but surprisingly it did not withstand the load. Because this was the last rod I had, in the rest, according to the agreement with the customer, I created a body from half-vintage ebonite in dark brown color, which turned out to be little harder.

І в принципі я задоволений результатом більше, тому що цей ебоніт під лаком дав чудовий колір схожий на зірковий пил у темному бурштині (дивись фото наприкінці посту). Полірований ебоніт виглядає більш темним ніж неполірований.

And in the rest, I am more satisfied with the result, because this ebonite under lacquer gave a wonderful deep color similar to stardust in dark amber (see on the photo at the end of the post). Polished ebonite looks darker than unpolished.

Ще один Custom² тільки на цей раз не лакований, а лише полірований.

Нема межі у досконалості (лише обґрунтованість необхідності), тож трохи модернізував дизайн та додав кліп до  Custom² v 2.1 із трохи випадковою текстурою Crazy Horse.

There’s no limit to perfection (just the reasonableness of necessity), so I modernized my design a bit and added clip, so look at Custom² v 2.1 with a slightly random Crazy Horse texture..

Загальні розміри інструменту: повна довжина – 143 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 125 мм. Діаметр корпусу – 14.5 мм, у місці хвату – 11 мм. Вага – 28.1 г (включно із секцією 742, пером №10 FA та конвертером Con-70), а зі знятим ковпачком – 18.25 г. На 1 г легше ніж Pilot Custom 823)).

Overall dimensions of the tool: full length – 143 mm, without cap – 125 mm. Body diameter – 14.5 mm, at the grip – 11 mm. Full weight is 28.1 g (include 742 section with #10 FA nib and Con-70 converter), and without cap – 18.25 g. 1 g lighter than Pilot Custom 823)).

Але інколи, в цьому вінтажному ебониті, зустрічаються дефекти які не можна передбачити. Це нерозчинена сірка у каучуку при вулканізації, яка може зустрічатись дрібним камінчиком, якого зриває різець і залишає за ним вищербинку.

But sometimes, in this half-vintage ebonite, there are defects in the material that cannot be predicted. This is undissolved sulfur in the rubber during vulcanization, which can be found as a small pebble, which is torn off by the cutter and leaves behind a chip.
