(modern) Pilot Custom Urushi Vermillion + custom feed and nib

Hi! A little over a year ago I got a long dreamed of and desired Pilot Custom 845 Vermillion and a year later such an unexpected incident. I never planned to buy this pen and I didn’t even look in this direction, but chance decided everything. I happened to see the body of this model for sale, the most attractive color for me, which had just been posted, and luckily I was the first one who take an interest in it. Then this beauty lay a little longer and waited for the time when I finished my other projects. At first I was thinking of trying to install a regular steel nib on it like I did with the Sailor 1911 KOP, but suddenly I was offered a slightly tired Aurora Talentum with an old design nib and my mosaic came together at the same time. So let’s go:

Привіт! Трохи більше року назад я отримав довго омріяний і бажаний Pilot Custom 845 Vermillion і через рік такий неочікуваний випадок. Я ніколи не планував придбати цю ручку і навіть не дивився в цю сторону, але випадок все вирішив. Я випадково побачив у продажу корпус цієї ручки, найпривабливішому для мене кольорі, яку тільки виклали і на щастя я був перший хто нею зацікавився. Потім вона ще трохи лежала та чекала свого часу коли я закінчу інші свої проєкти. Спочатку я думав спробувати встановити на неї звичайне сталеве перо як я робив з Sailor 1911 KOP, але раптово мені запропонували трохи втомившуюся Aurora Talentum з пером старого дизайну і моя мозаїка склалась водночас. Тож почнемо:

Pilot Custom Urushi w|14k Aurora Large nib & my ebonite feed (made in Japan/Italy/Ukraine)

Це cама старша модель лінійки Custom, та як і 845 має циліндричну форму с плоскими навершями. Матеріал виготовлення корпусу смола(чи пластик?) чорного кольору, але покрита червоним Vermillion лаком уруші(нібито в три шари). Смола не прозора у світлі тому будем вважати її не драгоцінною)). Система заправки – картриджно-конвертерна, свого пропрієтарного формату Pilot, та приймає усі типи конвертерів та картриджів свого бренду. Ковпачок на різьбленні, різьблення 2х західне, відкриття/закриття за 1.5 обороту.

This is top model of the Custom line and, like the younger 845, has a cylindrical shape with flat tops. The material of the body is black resin(or plastic?), but covered by red color Vermillion urushi varnish(allegedly in three layers). The resin is not (red)transparent in the light, so we will consider it not precious)). The filling system is cartridge-converter, of its proprietary Pilot format, and accepts all types of converters and cartridges of its brand. Cap on thread, 2-starts thread, opening/closing in 1.5 turns.

З прикрас дизайну, до видатного сполучення чорного та червоного уруши, доєднуються золоті акценти кліпа та кілець. На широке, позолочене кільце нанесено: ★ PILOT MADE IN JAPAN ★★★ CUSTOM URUSHI ★★. Типова форма кліпу з кулькою має імпрінт Pilot. Навершя має особливий дизайн з вмонтованим кільцем по периметру. Цікаво що на відміну від молодшої 845 моделі в ковпачку цієї нема оксамитово кільця для запобігання тертю об корпус.

From the elements of design, to the outstanding combination of black and red urushi colors, golden accents of the clip and rings are added. The wide, gold-plated ring have embossed: ★ PILOT MADE IN JAPAN ★★★ CUSTOM URUSHI ★★. The typical shape of clip with ball at the end has the Pilot imprint. The cap top has a special design with a built-in ring around the perimeter. It is interesting that, unlike the younger 845 model, the cap of this one does not have a velvet ring to prevent friction against the body.

Перо: Штатно ручка комплектується величезним двохтоновим 18 каратним пером 30 розміру і судячи з діаметра отвору 7.77мм схожим на 8 європейський розмір. Але оскільки я не мав оригінального пера я встановив на ручку велике перо італійського бренду Aurora яке відповідає 6 розміру європейських пер. На перо окрім візерунка, у колі під дихаючим отвором нанесено 14К, трохи ніжче 585(проба золота), еще нижче AURORA та знизу, *5 TO – що є ювелірним тавром компании Aurora.

The nib: As standard, this fountain pen is equipped with a huge two-tone 18-carat nib of 30 sizes and, judging by the diameter of the section hole of 7.77 mm, similar to European size #8. But because I didn’t have the original nib, I installed a large nib of the Italian brand Aurora, which corresponds to the nib European size #6. In addition to ornamental pattern, 14K is applied to the nib in the circle, under it just below 585, even below AURORA and under it, * 5 TO – which is the Aurora jewelry mark.

Загальні розміри інструменту: повна довжина – 155,5 мм, зі знятим ковпачком – 138.6 мм. Діаметр корпусу – 15.8 мм, у місці хвату – 13 мм. Вага – 39.8 г (тільки ручка без конвертера чи картріджа), а зі знятим ковпачком – 21.35 г.

Overall dimensions of the tool: full length – 155,5 mm, without cap – 138.6mm. Body diameter – 15.8 mm, at the grip – 13 mm. Full weight is 39.8 g (without CON-70 converter or cartridges), and without cap – 21.35 g .

Хвилинки історії:
Перша модель Custom була представлена ринку в далекому 1971 році та мала назву “Custom K”, але та модель мало була схожа на сучасну: вона була тонкою, в дусі тогочасного дизайну і мала інкрустоване перо, схоже на Sheaffer. З приводу назви Custom На FPN є цілий тред присвячений теорії його появи і як варіант розглядався навіть синонім слова “Традиції”, але зрештою дійшли спільної думки, що це скорочення від слова “Сustomizable”. Просто особливості японської мови та вимови за фонемами роблять вимову іноземних слів неорганічно складними, і тому в японській мові прийнято робити зручні скорочення, наприклад Rumion (Toyota Scion) це скорочення від “roomy one”. Так що замість складної вимови customizable для японців набагато простіше вимовити “ka-su-to-mu” (Custom). А ось що спочатку вкладалося в поняття Сustomizable? – мабуть різні варіанти оформлення корпусів для даної моделі від дерева до нержавіючої сталі (stainless black stripes:)). На межі 80-х років початковий дизайн змінився і Pilot Custom став трохи схожим на Parker 75, один із представників Pilot Custom Grandee вже мною раніше був показаний. А дизайн до якого ми звикли зараз, уперше був представлений моделлю Pilot Custom 74 у 1992 році, з якого ввели сучасну нумерологію. Правду сказати була ще модель Pilot Custom 67 від 1985 року, але вона мала трохи відмінний дизайн, хоча форма була ідентична і за розміром трохи не вкладається в поточну лінійку бо розміром майже з 742 модель. Взагалі у серії CUSTOM дуже своєрідна нумерологія, яка може складатися з 2-х або 3-х цифр, так відповідно до документації компанії перші 2 цифри визначають роки розробки від моменту заснування компанії, а третя цифра повідомляє про стартову вартість. Так Custom 742, модель 74 року святкування із вартістю 20000єн, а 823 модель 82 року святкування із вартістю 30000єн. Найстарша модель лінійки (за винятком Urushi) – Custom 845, виготовлена з частками з ебоніту, була вигадана в 2002 році і коштувала 50000 ієн .
Ця серія розроблялася як максимально ефективна: – мінімум декоративної краси та максимум якості. На даний момент частина назви моделі “custom” якнайкраще характеризує цю лінійку, бо дана модель (як і 742) може комплектуватися 15 (!!!) різними типами пер від стандартних до спеціальних, включаючи гнучке перо Falcon (FA). У даній підродині, з ідентичним дизайном та аналогічною системою заправки знаходяться молодша модель Pilot Custom 74 з малим пером <5>, середня Pilot Custom 742 з <10> пером та старша модель Pilot Custom 743 з великим пером <15>, але є ще найстарші моделі з Custom’ів – Pilot Custom 845 Urushi та Pilot Custom Urushi з плоскими закінченнями та 15 і 30м розміром пера відповідно.

Minutes of history:
The first Custom model was introduced to the market back in 1971 and it was called the “Custom K”, but that model did not resemble the modern one: it was thin, in the design trends of the time and had an inlaid nib, similar to Sheaffer. Well, the Custom 74 model appeared on the market in 1974 but do not has a 74 number in model name. Regarding the name Custom on FPN have a thread on devoted to the theory of its appearance and even a synonym for the word “Tradition” was considered as an option, but in the end they came to the general opinion that this is an abbreviation for the word “Customizable”. It’s just that the peculiarities of the Japanese language and the pronunciation by phonemes make the pronunciation of foreign words inorganically complex, and therefore it is customary in the Japanese language to make convenient abbreviations, for example Rumion (Toyota Scion) is an abbreviation for “roomy one”. So instead of a complex “customizable” pronunciation for Japanese, it is much easier to pronounce “ka-su-to-mu” (Custom). Well, what was originally put into the concept of Customizable, probably different options for the design of bodies for this model from wood to stainless steel (stainless black stripes, eh? :)). At the turn of the 80s, the initial design changed and the Pilot Custom became a bit like the Parker 75, one of the Pilot Custom Grandee representatives had already been shown to me earlier. And the design we are used to now was first introduced by the Pilot Custom 74 in 1992, which introduced modern numerology. Truth be told, there was also a Pilot Custom 67 from 1985, but it had a slightly different design, although the shape was identical and in size does not fit a little into the current Custom line, since it is almost the size of a 742 model. In general, the CUSTOM series has a very peculiar numerology, which can consist of 2 or 3 digits, and according to the company’s documentation, the first 2 digits determine the years of the model’s development from year of company founded, and the third digit indicates the starting cost. So the Custom 742, is a model of 74 anniversary year brand founded with cost of 20,000 yen, and an 823 model was invented in 82 anniversary year, with a cost of 30,000 yen. The toppest model in the line(exclude Urushi), the Custom 845, made with parts of ebonite, was developed in 2002 and cost 50,000 yen.
This series was developed as the most effective: – minimum decorative beauty and maximum quality. At the moment, part of the model name “custom” characterizes this line in the best possible way, because this model (742) can be completed with 15 (!!!) different types of nibs from standard to special ones, including the flexible Falcon nib (FA). In this subfamily, with an identical design and a similar filling system, there are the younger Pilot Custom 74 small nib <5>, middle Pilot Custom 742 with <10> nib and higher Pilot Custom 743 with large nib <15>, but there is also the flagship from the Custom line are Pilot Custom 845 Urushi and Pilot Custom Urushi with flat tops and <15> and <30> nib size respectively.

Термін Custom сама компанія товмачить як “зроблено на замовлення”, тобто постійно змінюється залежно від попиту користувачів, хоча тлумачення від японських FPNers мені подобається більше)). Дякую Allen Ng, який поділився зі мною корисною інформацією стосовно року розробки моделі, який відраховується від дати заснування компанії Pilot. Тобто 74 – це не 1974 рік, а 1918+74, що дорівнює 1992 року, та відповідно 823 – це 2000 (1918+82), як зазначено в рекламі компанії.

The term Custom is translated by the company itself as “made-to-order”(serve orders placed by users), that is, it constantly changes depending on user demand, although I like the interpretation from Japanese FPNers better)). Thanks to Allen Ng which shared to me useful information that the year of development of the model is calculated from the date of founded of the Pilot company. That is, 74 is not 1974, but 1918+74, which is equal to 1992, and accordingly, 823 is 2000(1918+82) as shared in the company’s advers.

З того що секція розрахована на фідер та перо 8 розміру а я вирішив використати перо 6 розміру, довелось розробити власну конструкцію фідера та створити додатковий різец. Зробивши креслення та трохи потренувавшись, з 4ої спроби вийшло як треба)). Після монтажу ручка була протестована у повному обсязі. Доба пройшла – старт миттевий, висихання нема.

Because the section is designed for #8 nib and feed size, but I decided to install a #6 nib size, I had to develop my own feed design and create special covers cutter. After making a technical drawing and practicing a little, it turned out correctly on the 4th attempt)). After assembling, this fountain pen was fully tested. After day is a fast start by first touch, there is no nib drying.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,55 мм, традіційно для Aurora розмір трохи меньший за зазначений (B). Натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 1,1 мм. Зворотний бік пише трохи гостро лінією в 0.35 мм. Перо має фірмовий Авроровський фідбек, трохи схожий на Sailor))

The width of the line by the right side is 0.55 mm, traditionally for Aurora, the size is slightly smaller than the specified (B). Pressure allows to increase this line to 1.1 mm. The reverse side writes a little crispy with line of 0.35 mm. The nib has the branded Aurora’s feedback, a bit like Sailor))

В решті решт: на мій погляд, перо підійшло дуже органічно до ручки і не викликає дисонансу, не зважаючи на те що оригінальне перо 8 розміру. Розмір ручки для мене трохи більшуватий, точніше товстуватий, кілька разів я перехоплював секцію, бо мені здалось що пальці втомились, відчуття схожі за Монблан 149. Другий момент що перо вийшло як для мене трохи за вологе, але я поки не з’ясував це з того що В розмір для мене занадто широко, чи з того що я зробив 2 чорнильних канали замість одного. Скоріше за все я це перо перетворю на Crisp Italic B, та як що лінія буде занадто волога, я зроблю новий фідер з одним каналом. В цілому ручка виглядає просто шикарно, хоча 845 для моєї руки більш комфортна.

At the end: in my opinion, the nib fits very organically to the pen and does not cause dissonance, despite the fact that the original nib is #8 size. The overall size of this pen is a little big for me, rather thick, because several times by drawing I intercepted the grip, because it seemed to me that my fingers were tired, the feeling is similar to my Montblanc 149. The second point is that the nib turned out to be a little too wet for me, but I have not yet understand it out with that B size is too wide for me, or that I made 2 slit feed instead of one. I will most likely ground this nib to Crisp Italic B, and if nib line was is too wet, I will make a new one slit feed. In general, the pen looks simply gorgeous, although the 845 is more comfortable for my hand..

Update 1:

Оскльки я придбав лише корпус то я не можу показати вам повний продажний комплект, але я покажу я виглядало перо Aurora, коли я його зняв з ручки. На пері (зверху) була дуже приємна патина яку я вирішив залишити, на відміну від бруду на зовнішній стороні пера. Таку або подібну патину я зустрічав лише на сучасних перах Montblanc 146 из 80х та на перах Aurora до 2000. Її легко можна прибрати але важко створити власноруч тому я волію зберігти її. Нажаль коли я приміряв перо з фідером у секцію вона трохи зтерлась, але частково залишилась.

Because I purchased only body, I can’t show you the full retail set, but I will show you how the Aurora nib looks when I removed it from the pen. The nib (on top cover) had a very nice patina that I decided to leave, unlike the dirt on the back surface of the nib. I have seen this or similar patina only on modern Montblanc 146 monotone nibs from the 80s and on Aurora large nib made before 2000. It can be easily removed, but it is difficult to create it yourself, so I prefer to keep it. Unfortunately, when I tried nib with feed to section, it remove a little, but partially remained.

Update 2:

Ось так виглядає мій ебонітовий фідер. З того що діаметр фідера значно більше ніж кривизна поверхні пера, спочатку я думав змінити кривизну поверхні пера як я це робив для Sailor KOP, але потім вирішив пристосувати поверхню під пером до потрібного діаметру.

How looks my custom ebonite feed. Because the diameter of the feed is much larger than the curvature of the surface of the nib, at first I thought of changing the curvature of the nib as I did it for Sailor KOP, but then I decided to adapt the feed surface under the nib to the desired diameter.

Цікаво, що ручка виявилась настільки крупною, що не влізда в жоден мій чохол, але тут на допомогу прийшов чохол який зробив мені молодший син.

It is interesting that this pen turned out to be so large that it did not fit into any of my cases, but here the sleeve/kimono of my younger son made for me came to the rescue.

Update: 25.12.2023

На одному із форумів у мене виникла дискусія стосовно матеріалу корпусу – кілька любителів пера висловились стосовно того що вони вірять що корпуса 845 та Urushi створені з ебоніту. Я висловив сумнів з цього приводу, та довожу свої думки: по-перше, всі різьбові з’єднання неозброєним оком виглядають занадто гладкими та створеними литтям під тиском, а ебоніт можна лише точити. Після дослідження під збільшенням видно місця швів, шліци та ребра жорсткості які неможливо виточити навіть на верстатах з ЧПК. Звісно можна припустити що ебонітом є лише частина під лаком Уруші, але це зовсім не логічно: по-перше, ебоніт має сенс коли його можна відчути (доторкнутись), а по-друге, поєднання різних матеріалів накладає обмеження, поєднання пластикових та ебонітових частин здорожчує та ускладнює процес що конче не рентабельно та не технологічно.

On one of the forums, I had a discussion about the body material – several pen lovers expressed their belief that the 845 and Urushi bodies are made of ebonite. I expressed my doubts about this, but I will prove my points of view: firstly, all the thread looks by eyes too smooth and die-cast, but ebonite can only be turning. After the examination under magnification, we can see the places of seams, slots and stiffeners that cannot be turned even on CNC machines. Of course, it can be assumed that only the part under the Urushi lacquer is ebonite, but this is not logical at all: firstly, ebonite makes sense when you can feel it (touch it), and secondly, the combination of different materials imposes restrictions, the combination of plastic and ebonite parts makes it more expensive and complicates the process, which is not at all cost-effective and not technological.

Just out of curiosity, I photographed the surface of Urushi when enlarged. The photo doesn’t prove anything, but it’s just interesting.

Update: 24.09.2025

Останній проект був доволі вдалим і сам процес мені сподобався тож я вирішив його інтерполювати на мій гибридний Pilot Custom Urushi, тому що перший фідер із двома каналами на мій смак виявився занадто вологим, ну і з естетичної точки зору новий дизайн ski slope мені більше приваблює на зараз.

The latest project was quite successful, and I liked the process itself, so I decided to interpolate this experience onto my hybrid Pilot Custom Urushi, because the first feed with two channels turned out to be too wet for my taste, and from an aesthetic point of view, the new ski slope shape appeals to me more for now.

Як і в попередньому випадку із Montblanc 147, спочатку зробив зручні шаблони під необхідний розмір а потім вже справа практики.

As in the previous case with the Montblanc 147, first I made convenient templates for the required size, and then it was a matter of practice.

Я деякий час тому, завдячуючи Андреа, придбав велике перо Аврора старого зразка як раз із метою замінити перо, те що в огляді вище, бо то для малювання занадто широке, а переточувати я його не бажав.

Some time ago, thanks to Andrea (normiewannabe), I purchased a large old-style Aurora nib precisely to replace the nib in the review above, because it was too wide for drawing, and I didn’t want to regrind it to a smaller size.

Оскільки мені подобається природня патина, то цього разу я не став чистити перо, а використав його таким як є. Протестував чорнилом Platinum Lavender Black.

Since I like the natural patina, this time I didn’t clean this nib, and used it as is. I tested it by Platinum Lavender Black ink.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,35 мм. Натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 0,8 мм. Зворотний бік пише трохи прозоро лінією в 0.25 мм.

The width of the line by the right side is 0.35 mm. Pressure allows to increase this line to 0.8 mm. The reverse side writes a little transparency by line of 0.25 mm.

У бою на Харківщині 30 липня 2025 року загинув історик, краєзнавець та фотохудожник Ігор Климович. Він був молодшим лейтенантом Третьої окремої штурмової бригади Сухопутних військ ЗСУ.

Постійний учасник фестивалю «Ту Стань!», де разом із побратимами з клубу живої історії «Застава» відтворював культуру вікінгів у Русі. У 2021 році став лауреатом призу глядацьких симпатій у конкурсі «Мандрівник-фотограф року», де змагалися 370 фотографів з усієї України. Цього року в Стрию презентував фотовиставку «Людина і війна» — 48 чорно-білих світлин, зроблених на плівку на фронті. Разом із побратимами 3 ОШБр врятував 900-літню Половецьку кам’яну бабу з Донеччини, яку під обстрілами вивіз до Дніпровського національного історичного музею імені Дмитра Яворницького.

Igor Klymovych is from the village of Grabovets in the Lviv region. He studied at the Institute of Tourism at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. For the past ten years, he has lived in Kyiv. He traveled around Ukraine, collected antiquities, and was interested in the reconstruction of ancient Slavic-Rus and medieval culture. He was an expert on historical weapons, everyday life, clothing, and customs. Igor Klymovych is the first Ukrainian to become a member of the international association of experimental archaeology EXARC. He is a regular participant in the “Tustan” festival, where, together with his colleagues from the “Zastava” living history club, he recreated the culture of the Vikings in Kyivan Rus. In 2021, he became the winner of the audience award in the “Traveler Photographer of the Year” competition, where 370 photographers from all over Ukraine competed. This year, he presented the photo exhibition “Man and War” in Stryi – 48 black-and-white photos taken on film at the front. Together with his comrades of the 3rd OSB, he saved the 900-year-old Polovtsian stone woman from the Donetsk region, which he took to the Dmytro Yavornytskyi Dnipro National Historical Museum under shelling.

Так в шо робити зі знятим пером? Гарне питання: “А на цей випадок у мене є проїзний”:)), точніше ще один корпус Urushi який мені пощастило придбати майже півроку тому у кастомайзерів які придбали його за ради оригінального пера.

And what to do with the nib that I removed and it was left behind? And for this, almost six months ago, I was lucky enough to buy another Custom Urushi body from customizers who bought it for big #30 original nib, but they didn’t need it in the body.

Попри те що я одразу робив 2 однакових фідера, все одно довелось кожен підлаштовувати індивідуально. На цьому додатково довелось збільшити чорнильний канал і трохи підправити перо, щоб внутрішня поверхня пера більш щільно прилягала до кінчика фідера.

Even though I made 2 identical feeds at once, I still had to adjust each one individually. This also required enlarging the ink channel and slightly adjusting the nib so that the inner surface of the nib fit more tightly to the end of feed.

В якості тестових чорнил я скористався Diamine Snow Storm (Inkvent 2019), але без блискіток. Вірогідно що різні якості чорнил впливали на відчуття та додаткові модифікації, але обидві ручки мене повністю задовільнити своїми властивостями.

I used Diamine Snow Storm (Inkvent 2019) as my test ink, but without glitter. It is likely that the different ink qualities affected the feel and additional adjustment, but both pens completely satisfied me with their properties.

Ширина лінії прямою стороною становить 0,6 мм. Натиск дозволяє збільшити цю лінію до 1,0 мм. Зворотний бік пише більш прозорою лінією в 0.25 мм.

The width of the line by the right side is 0.6 mm. Pressure allows to increase this line to 1.0 mm. The reverse side writes more transparemcy line of 0.25 mm.

В решті вийшло доволі непогано особливо в поєднанні із чорнилом, складаєтся враження що малюєш/пишеш широким м’яким(2В-3В) олівцем, а коли треба зробити щось дрібне то маєш одночасно ще гострозаточений твердий (2Н-3Н).

At the end of the work turned out pretty well, especially in combination with the ink. It gives the impression that I’m drawing/writing by wide soft (2B-3B) pencil, and when I need to do something small, I can reverse pen and have a tinny sharpened hard one (2H-3H) at the same time.

Update 13:

А ще помітив одну цікаву особливість, колір більш нового корпусу трохи відрізняється відтінком від моїх попередніх, він трохи темніший та схильний до малинового відтінку. Але це помітно лише коли ручки лежать поруч, а коли вони окремо то кожна сприймається як типовий Vermillion.

And I also noticed one interesting thing, the color of the newer body is slightly different in shade from my previous ones, it is a little darker and tends to a raspberry shade. But this is noticeable only when the pens are near, when they are separate, each is perceived as a typical Vermillion.

На фронті загинув доброволець з Канади – 24-річний Патрік Мазероль. Він приїхав з далекої Канади, для того щоб битися за волю, за незалежність, за Україну. Цей світлий та хоробрий хлопець покинув все, подолав тисячі кілометрів, для того, щоб стати на світлу Сторону. Він приїхав з тихої та заможної Канади, для того, щоб боротися за правду і Справедливість.

A volunteer from Canada, 24-year-old Patrick Mazerolle, died at the front. He came from distant Canada to fight for freedom, for independence, for Ukraine. This bright and brave boy left everything, traveled thousands of kilometers, to stand on the bright side. He came from quiet and prosperous Canada to fight for truth and Justice.

Патрік Мазероль із Сен-Сімона (Нью-Брансуік) сказав батькам у лютому, що їде у відпустку до Англії, але замість цього він поїхав до Польщі, де зрештою записався до міжнародного добровольчого підрозділу української армії.

«Він відчував, що має бути там, щоб допомогти їм. Вони дуже потребували допомоги. Він вирішив, що це його місія — поїхати сюди», — Марк Мазероль, батько Патріка.

Захоплювався історією, спортом та активним відпочинком на природі, Патрік провів два роки, готуючись до своєї нової ролі, тренуючись, боксуючи та відвідуючи стрільбища. У вересні його побратим повідомив родину про загибель Патріка внаслідок удару дрона.

Patrick Mazerolle of Saint-Simon (NB), told his parents he was going on vacation to England in Fevruary – insteadm he webt to Poland, ultimately enlisting in an international volunteer unit of the Ukrainian army.

“He felt he neded to be there to help them out. They were in deep need. He decided that was his mission to go here” – Marc Mazerolle, Patrick’s father

Passionate about history, sports and outdors, Patrick spent two years preparing for his new role by training, boxing, and visiting shooting ranges. In September, another servicemember alerted the family of Patrick’s passing, he had been killed in a drone strike.
